Woah! The American Orient Express sure is nice! I bet it costs a ton for a trip on that one! My only experience with riding trains for transportation is when we rode Amtrak to Atlanta, it was fun, I wish we would travel more by train. Anyway, awesome photos!

I kind of don't like American Trains after I took the train from Ft. Lauderdale to New York City and got Chicken Pox so was confined to my room for 2.5 days!

I would love to see America get some real high speed trains like in Europe and Asia, that would be sweet!

I agree your trains a fairly crummy for getting from A-B anytime soon, but I think for a sightseeing holiday this Orient Express looks quite spectacular.

America has an amazing variety of terrain, and some fantastic (but I agree very slow) routes to view and enjoy this, and if I had time left over from roller coaster holidays, I would find this quite appealing.

So it's back to playing the lottery in the hope of early retirement to include luxury meandering train journeys, in addition to manic park hopping 8)

Yea I hate school cause I got chicken pox from there

we have the Acela trains in the northeast (D.C. to Boston) they reach 150mph in spots but usually go 120mph-130mph but IMO they are not as comfortable as the regular Amtrak coaches

You lucky **** ****** ***** ***** ! Grrr! I wanna go on the American Orient Express! But the time contraints of my schedule and the fact that I am not made of money prevents from riding it. Anyways, great photos. I hope you had a great time even if I am jealous.

Well working it is not exactly fun all the time....sure it has perks (happy sleeping passengers,we do not have to do anything except the slow orders/temporary speed limits and following CSX's rules) Now for the bad it is an all nighter (10pm-6am then cathcing a ride home in 4 hours at 10am) NORMALLY it is about a 5 hour trip from Richmond VA to Florence SC but not on the AOE they do not pay priority royalties to CSX so a 5 hour trip takes between 8-9 hours if lucky and it gets pretty boring.

I see the American Orient Express trains pass behind my house now and then. In fact, one went by about two weeks ago.

One day, I'm going to save up and take a cross country rail trip. Or at least go up to Seattle on the Coast Starlight (or Coast Starlate as it usually runs!).
