Tina?!

Nina is so 2015.

So can we assume LR is not opening this weekend? Or will Dolly do a surprise opening? The suspense...

LR will not open this weekend after all.

I thought it's been established that Lightning Rod won't open #JeSuisGuy

taking the family to dollywood for the first time this summer. We are going to be there on weekdays only at the end of July. How long should we expect the lines to be at the major rides? I'm trying to determine if buying the $30 time saver pass would be worth it.

I also have a question about the time savers. I have never used them at Dollywood and we will use them if we need to the day we go. There will be four adults. Only two will ride at a time while the other two take care of the kids that are too small to ride. Is it feasible to get the two person one and share it among the four of us as it will only be two at a time riding?

You'd be better off getting 2 time savers with 2 people on each so that 2 could use the reservation while the other 2 wait and then vice versa. If it's a busy day (like busy to the point that you're parking in lots D and E before the park even opens) they're a life saver. I will be getting them every time I'm at the park from here on out especially when Lightning Rod opens.

If you're staying at DreamMore its a free perk for staying at their resort!

I would say at $30 a person I would just factor it into the budget and get them if you can. They also work on shows and their shows are great! It's nice having a front row seat saved for you! They are exactly like Six Flags Flashpass if you've used one of those before.

Please Pete, answer me this question. Why is LR not opening this weekend? Didn't RMC give the park control of the roller coaster a couple of weeks ago? Have you not been awarded a state certification yet, or what? Just please, all I and many many others on this site want is more of an answer than we should get ready for a bonfire!

^ Well you definitely came off as a person...

Look, there have been lot of disappointed enthusiasts that had trips planned in advance, drove several hours or days, or simply already had a trip planned and were hoping LR was open when it wasn't - such is life.

As many people have mentioned several times in this thread, LR is a unique, one of a kind coaster. I know that you're too young to remember other unique coaster grand openings like Top Thrill Dragster, Kingda Ka, Maverick, etc....but they all had tons of issues during their inaugural seasons because of their complexity.

To me, this is not surprising at all given the design, layout, innovation...a launched lift hill on a wooden/steel hybrid. It wouldn't be a surprise me if they have intermittent issues & down time all season and perhaps even next.

They'll get there though...don't worry - they have smart people working on it!

Nothing "actually dated" should ever Ever be considered, again. Seasonal Openings work best.

This is when the Internet (and "Social Media" yeah) is working too good, for it's own good.

IMhO.

And yes, even Seasonal Openings can backfire, too.
