P. 796 - Ride closing 10/30 to remove launch and install chain lift!

"Lightning Fast".....hmmmmm...and the license plate in the promo teaser said "Knox".....can't help but wonder if these hint at a correlation to the "White Lightnin' Trail" moonshiners used to go from Kentucky to Knoxville. Will be interesting if an "alcohol free" amusement company will dip its toes into the moonshine commercialism taking off...it fits and it's tempting from a marketing standpoint...but who knows?

Hi guys!

Need some advice from the locals.

I'm planning a trip for september and we (me and my wife)are gonna visit SDC and Dollywood.

We are planning to book a room at the new Dreammore resort with a 2 days for the price of 1 day entree ticket.

The question is: we have the choice in our schedule to either visit DW friday-saturday (18-19th) or Sunday-monday(20-21st). The other 2 days are gonna be used to visit the smoky mountains.

What's the best option in terms of crowds?

Thanks!

Paul

You do know that the Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run is that weekend, right? It's one of the biggest car shows in the country. If you love classic muscle cars, you'll love being in town. If you don't like car shows....well, don't go anywhere near the Pigeon Forge parkway. The GOOD news, though, is that crowds at Dollywood are typically lighter when the big car shows are in town, so you should be "ok" going on Friday & Saturday. The traffic getting around town will be lighter on Sunday afternoon and Monday. So if you plan to visit anything near the Parkway, I'd do the driving around on Sunday & Monday. TRUST me.

I could possibly see it happening. Thunder Road did it, that's what the movie and ride were based off of. A bootleg run/car chase that ends up crashing. Which is why for some reason I think the spirit of that ride is going to live on a bit through this coaster. Yes I could be crazy, I just have a feeling. "Lightning Fast", "Shot Rod", 1950's( Moonshine was booming in the 50's in the mountains) and you have your hot rod speeding off. The question is, why is it speeding off?

Yeah I guess the most likely scenario is a bootlegger chase story...so the question is which side of the law will Dollywood put guests on...the bootleggers or revenuers.

The way I personally look at it is, why not both? Haha Again just hoping here. I can only imagine what theming this thing is gonna have!

What if it is a dueling/racing launched coaster and one side is the bootleggers and the other side is the revenuers.

If a launched RMC is coming I think it's safe to say it will have a relatively intense launch. I wouldn't be surprised if steel supports are used for the launched section and possibly the first element. If that happens would anyone have a problem considering it the first launched wooden coaster? I only ask because I find the different opinions of RMC coasters interesting whether I agree with them or not. I'm not trying to start arguments based on speculation so please keep it civil.

Nope, didn't know that, but being from europe I see it as a bonus. Like to see some muscle cars up close.

Thanks for the tip!

Gonna think about the planning this weekend.....

They've always played at alcohol in their theming. The train rides at both SDC and DW have always had jokes about moonshine, for example. They've also sold shot glasses for a long time. They can certainly include moonshine theming without needing to get too far into alcohol commercialism. I know that they still do have their limits and consider themselves a christian company, though they are not of a particularly overbearing sect.

^^ Um, how do the employees working there, explain to a 17 year old,

why they can't taste the non-alcoholic Moonshine Jelly, even if

it's posted there? I'm just curious. The "taste" of Moonshine going to

set the kids off, or something?

I wish they would just bite the bullet and get a liquor license. You combat the drunken unruliness by having moonshine cocktails instead of full on shine, and local brews instead of watered down power drinking beers. Then, you charge a pretty penny for them. Your average power drinking drunken fool isn't going to want to pay $8 for a beer or drink. My wife and I really enjoy having a few beers in the evening hours in between riding rides. It's really the only thing that makes it fun for her, instead of just tolerable, since she's not into the hobby. I'm no alcoholic, but it does make it a lot less appealing to visit dry parks.

Yep. I've been. I'm kind of religious too, but I still enjoy a couple drinks.

It's 2015. God has been slapped in the face far worse than allowing people to buy local craft beers. Until the liquor is allowed I'll just continue to enjoy a cold beer in the parking lot before reentry, after having a mid day meal at Smokey Mtn. Brewery.

Sounds like you enjoy more than a couple if you have to have one in the parking lot. Dollywood isn't going to sell beer/liquor; it may be 2015, but that doesn't change the standpoint of the owners.

Back to the coaster...Lightning just happens to occur in a certain movie that was previously connected to the original teaser video.

Just a quick update...swung by Dollywood to see if there has been any progress on the coaster. Not much difference at all on the hill, but looks like they're about to pour some footings in the area where Cas Walker's was.

Nothing really picture worthy this trip...looks pretty much the same as the recent pics that were posted.

Also....it's HOT outside...that is all.

Rocky Mountain Construction confirmed!

"Rocky Mountain Construction is confirmed! A job posted today directly from Rocky Mountain Construction for an immediate position in Pigeon Forge for "2 Full-Time survey positions"! Now, Rocky Mountain Construction is way too big, too popular, and too expensive for anyone other that Dollywood to be using them in Pigeon Forge, so this absolutely confirms the rumors that the new coaster will be a Rocky Mountain Construction coaster!"
