FB_IMG_1477856675181.thumb.jpg.af25cce334eab0a27f1543ad9f2e2852.jpgRobbie Von Roll of the Von Roll family makes Skyride cabin replicas as well as whole ride replicas.

It's worth checking out. I'm considering purchasing a model cabin, because why not?

You can contact him about cabins and ride models here:

https://www.facebook.com/vonrollmodelropeways/

One of many full ride replica videos here:

Also fun fact: The drive platform ( aka "East" at the front of the park) at Cedar Point is an exact carbon copy of the drive platform from the old Disneyland Skyway.

I have been talking with Robbie Von Roll as of lately and will share some interesting facts and photos ASAP! Stay tuned!

Speaking of sky rides...I remember when i went to Santa's Villiage in Dundee way back in 1999 they had a sky ride of some sort. Instead of a tram though it was more like a ski lift bench design. Me and my mom were one it and these preteen boys who were on the return part of the cycle, were yelling at all the people who just boarded, that the ride was going to break and fall. Being a kid in my own little world i didnt notice they said that but i could see all scared faces of the children who just got on and asked my mom why do they look so upset. She answered me in an angry tone about how those stupid boys were trying to scare the other passengers. Even my mom was getting scared....Scared of what a bunch of unsupervised 10 years old were saying??? I can understand young kids being scared but grown adults?? The whole time my mom was super tense and i was still like ladeedaadeedaa....lol I wasnt even paying attention to them.

I wish Disney would put the holes back in the Matterhorn.

I mean, it's Swiss, right?

Then put back their skyride.

(Not possible I know. But I can still Blue Sky once in a while.)

Some pictures shared with me by Robbie Von Roll.

Sorry about the videos, if someone could tell me how to upload them in a better format LMK! To view the videos, click on the actual file name not "view quicktime video"

If anyone has any questions LMK.

Skyride Cables are replaced every 7-10 years.

This part of the cabin is called the "grip"

You see the peg sticking out at the top? This is called an "F arm" when a cabin is dispatching, it goes under something called the "(VR 101) pressure beam". The pressure beam does exactly what the name entitles, it presses down on the F arm and activates the clamp or "jaw" securing the grip onto the cable. When a cabin comes onto a platform the "F arm" hits another pressure beam, releasing the cable from the jaw.

The "jaw" is in the middle, in this picture it is currently open. When the jaw is closed it surrounds the cable.

A wind alarm. These are seen on many Von Roll Skyrides but not at Cedar Point. This is not from an actual skyride, but is used on one of Rob's replica skyride models.

Speaking of sky rides anyone ever been on the big versions of them? You know the cable cars/trams that go up mountains? I been on one once but they are a lot of fun. Also when its windy with the combination of the thin air,it feels like you are on a mini airplane. You get that weird weightless feeling. Or maybe we can think of it as the other way around. Sky Rides are pretty much mini cable cars

I've been on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway that travels from the base to the peak of Mount San Jacinto in Southern California. I believe it is the largest/longest rotating gondola sky ride. It was tons of fun, albeit a little terrifying. Excellent, excellent views though. I don't have any pictures unfortunately, but I'm sure there are tons on Google.

You mean like the (at least at one point) longest single stage gondola in the world, which also happens to be a von roll? Then yes. Yes I have.
