WDW Disney's Hollywood Studios Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I would bet that the word "Studios" was intended to confuse people. So people would go to the Disney park and not leave property. As for the new name, I'd bet Disney Hollywood Adventure.

It was built specifically to compete with Universal Orlando, since Eisner was at Universal when UO was under construction and wanted to counter it.

My guess is that Studios remains in the name, since so many of the attractions are tied to movies or television.

It’s shaping up to be the “Coolest Summer Ever” at Walt Disney World Resort, and one of the biggest highlights of the season is sure to be the return of “Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with favorite characters, unforgettable music, delightful enhancements and immersive experiences.

This summer-long special event features a full day of “Frozen” fun from park open to park close, including a royal procession, a sing-along celebration, fun photo opportunities, “Frozen” merchandise, specialty food and beverage offerings and a grand finale fireworks spectacular.

  • Frozen Royal Welcome – Twice each day, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff take part in a festive cavalcade throughout Hollywoodland, accompanied by the Royal Arendelle Flag Corps and a flurry of skaters, skiiers and ice cutters – along with lovable snowman, Olaf. Anna leads the procession in a beautiful horse-drawn sleigh, with Elsa gliding by on a stunning, ice palace float. The entire procession pauses twice along the route in tribute to these visitors from Arendelle, as everyone in Hollywoodland is invited to join in singing “Let It Go!”

  • For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration – Just in time for this year’s “Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE event, this popular show moves into the beautiful Hyperion Theater (formerly Superstar Television Theater), located right in the heart of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Royal Historians of Arendelle host a fun and comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen,” plus all-new in-theater effects and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff.

  • Olaf’s Summer Cool Down – Several times each day, the Ambassador of Hollywoodland brings Olaf and some of his friends to the Event Stage to have a little fun with everyone “In Summer.” And as temperatures heat up, Olaf happily shares a burst from his personal snow cloud to cool things off.

  • “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party – Once the sun goes down, a dance party takes over the area around the Event Stage, with DJ Chill and some of your favorite Disney characters. Using a special event hashtag, you can share song requests and photos over social media, to be featured onscreen during the party.

  • “Frozen” Fireworks – As the night comes to a close, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Event Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an awe-inspiring fireworks display set to the glorious music of “Frozen” and, of course, a flurry of snow!

“Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE starts June 17 and continues daily through September 7 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Who’s going?

Well since they are moving all the Frozen stuff towards the center of the park, it seems that construction will be starting soon on the left side of the park. And the snow area isn't going to be there this year, which is sort of a bummer.

No surprises that Frozen Summer Fun is returning for a second year, considering the still insane popularity of everything thats got to do with Frozen. I'm very glad they extended it through September last year so that I got to experience it, because I had an absolute blast. And Frozen Fireworks were amazing! Heres my video from last years fireworks, will be interesting to see how it will be this year.

I'm not surprised they're beefing up the Frozen Sing-a-Long and moving it to a better venue. The show was a surprise hit and was still packing in the crowds last October.

It was still pulling in the crowds when I was there! It was also really well done! The royal historians were so funny!

My two year old granddaughter loved this sing-a-long. Nice to see it get a better location. It was kind of cramped back where it was.

Yesterday we had the chance to go check out 2015's installment of Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios!

This year’s event welcomes a new show, “Star Wars: Rebels,” new locations for autograph sessions and merchandise and several Star Wars luminaries making their first hyperspace jump to Star Wars Weekends.

Bringing Walt Disney World Resort guests as close to the Force as they can get, Star Wars Weekends features more than 60 Star Wars characters roaming the theme park for meet-and-greet opportunities, a Star Wars motorcade, the “Symphony in the Stars” nighttime fireworks spectacular saluting iconic sounds of the films, event-exclusive merchandise at Darth’s Mall, Star Wars-inspired dining offerings and specialty food and beverages, interactive activities, and more every weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) May 15-June 14, 2015.

The host of Star Wars Weekends, actor James Arnold Taylor, from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and “Star Wars Rebels,” will also host the new Star Wars Weekends show “Star Wars: Rebels,” where guests can relive the twists and turns of the first season of the Disney XD series with special guests from the show’s voice cast. In addition to Ashley Eckstein’s Weekend IV guest spot, she will also be joining every day of the event as host of “Padawan Mind Challenge – Family Edition.”

A celebration of all-things-Star Wars, the special event is included in regular park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

yey this years looks good! I wish i could afford to make multiple trips to Florida every year but this year I've decided to do the food and wine festival.

I did star wars weekends in 2013. I still think its a shame they got rid of the hoopla. Fireworks are cool but I liked dancing star wars characters

Wait, is this a Fan or an Official Disney Face Character? I know the character is from Star Wars: Rebels. Either way, they nailed the character, and it'd be cool to see come Rebels Characters show up as live actors in ANY of the upcoming Star Wars Movies.

Yesterday Theme Park Review was invited to attend the first day of Frozen Summer Fun at Disney's Hollywood Studios! This event brings back several favorites from last year's initial Frozen programming along with some new offerings to add to a day at the park!

A new stage setup has debuted this year thanks to the removal of the former Sorcerer's Hat icon, with the new stage sitting approximately where the old pin trading booth under the hat was located. Sitting slightly closer to the Chinese Theater/The Great Movie Ride than the stage did previous when the Sorcerer's Hat was still present, there is a slight increase in space for guests directly in front of the stage to enjoy the entertainment.

A brand new show called Olaf's Summer Cool Down debuts this year as well, featuring a newly-articulated Olaf that can blink and move his mouth as he speaks, sings and daydreams about all things warm. I've attached a great video from our friends at Orlando Attractions Magazine for the show.

For the First Time in Forever: A "Frozen" Sing-Along Celebration has moved from its previous home in the Streets of America's Premiere Theater to the Hyperion Theater (the previous Superstar Television Theater that hosted The American Idol Experience most recently) and with this move, the show has been given a new set, new in-theater effects and a much larger seating space for more guests to be able to enjoy each show. The content of the show itself is still the same super-popular show that has been running at Disney's Hollywood Studios for the past year, but the new venue makes the show feel far more permanent and the audience seemed to be loving it. And for those curious about the remnants of The American Idol Experience, the former show's stage has been entirely removed as have the former voting panels along each seat.

The culmination of Frozen Summer Fun at Disney's Hollywood Studios is the "Frozen" Fireworks Spectacular. It is always a treat to see fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios, something that is most often reserved for special events like Frozen Summer Fun, Star Wars Weekends or major holidays like the Fourth of July or New Year's Eve. I can't say for sure if this year's fireworks spectacular is a carbon copy of last year's version, but I was thoroughly impressed by the sheer amount of pyro used during this impressive show. It was also nice to have the characters appear on the stage to cut between the fireworks at several points in the show. Definitely a great way to end the day at the park!

We had a great time today at Disney's Hollywood Studios for this year's version of Frozen Summer Fun! The event runs every day from now until September 7th, 2015, so be sure to check it out during your next visit to the Walt Disney World Resort!

It is a little strange not seeing the Sorcerer's Hat behind the stage after all these years...

002.thumb.JPG.ca95acfacbe59546bc6c695584afb862.JPG

The stage setup is quite different than last year's layout which was heavily borrowed from Star Wars Weekends 2014.

004.thumb.JPG.ecc572af233c6047a8a0860556f0568e.JPG

The show's popularity called for a larger show space and with The American Idol Experience moving out, this was a natural place to move the show.

005.thumb.JPG.df0ad4cb44bd3bc1ef5ef13c2932398d.JPG

With how popular the show is and how full the theater is during each showing, it comes as no surprise that the theater hosts a huge number of performances each day.

006.thumb.JPG.d24589fc2bbc689166de4d6c8254c8f8.JPG

It definitely seems like the event is still a hit! Thanks for the report.
