WDW Disney's Hollywood Studios Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I concur. It looked cool when Disney did an annual pass event for World of Color and gave out free ears, because EVERYONE had them. It has looked stupid since. I really hope this is all just a test of the communication system (I think they use RFID) to be used for something on a larger scale (like lighting up entire areas without having to do tons of wiring).

Its not RFID, its basically a TV Remote. The towers send out the infrared signals, and your hats receive it and react.

Was it like the Coldplay gigs where they give everyone a wristband and they light up during the show so the stadium looks crazy? That'd be really cool if they could eventually roll something like that out on a daily basis for shows!

Yeah, its the same technology. Its also cool, cause the system can basically map the audience and that's how they are able to do shapes and sections and such.

I love how much emphasis WDW has been putting on improving food all over the resort. Off the top of my head over the past few years I can think of...

- This Brown Derby place

- New Mexican pavilion restaurant

- THREE new Italy options (re-vamp of the main restaurant, Via Napoli, and the wine bar.)

- New French Bakery

- Upcoming Morocco restaurant

- Be Our Guest

- New menu at Tony's

- Food trucks at DTD

And I'm sure there is more!

Who was it that said the parks were "Declining by Degrees?"

WDW really has upped the ante when it comes eating in their parks. The new counter-service operations they've opened are a nice option if you don't want to spring for a "sit-down" restaurant, but still want to eat something better than corn dogs, fries, etc. The wine bar in Epcot's Italy is excellent, and I'm looking forward to checking out the new Brown Derby place someday.

Check out this interesting interview with The Walt Disney Company's CEO Bob Iger, where he confirms that Walt Disney Imagineering is hard at work in developing new Star Wars offerings for the Disneyland Resort AND the Walt Disney World Resort!

Although I've never been a Star Wars fan, I'm curious to see how this turns out.

I still can't believe how much Disney made off of me at Food and Wine last year. I'm sure I helped a few departments stay in the black that year.

I'm surprised they didn't offer to fly you out this year!

Too bad Disney isn't a casino, they would have totally comped me another trip!

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2014/03/do-you-want-to-draw-a-snowman-learn-how-at-disneys-hollywood-studios/

Earlier today, we shared a look into the Animation Academy at The Magic of Disney Animation. Recently, a few characters from Disney’s “Frozen” were added into the rotation of Disney characters our character artists teach guests how to draw every day.

With the popularity of “Frozen” – which happens to be released on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack tomorrow, March 18 – it’s no surprise that Olaf has become one of the most requested characters at the experience. During our filming, character artist Brian James Fichtner was gracious enough to give us a step-by-step lesson on how to draw this lovable snowman-come-to-life. Grab a pencil, paper and check out the full tutorial below!

"Infamous" Luke Skywalker? I'm really getting tired of people misusing this word. "Infamous" essentially means notorious for doing bad things. Luke is a hero, not a villain.

Darth Vader can be "famous" and "infamous." Even Han Solo can be a bit "infamous"--but not Luke Skywalker. Disney should know better.

Hey guys, hopefully quick question. I'm going to my first ever Star Wars weekends tomorrow. I'm hoping to pick up the limited pin sets and other stuff. Is the best plan getting to the park at open and rushing to the Darth Mall or is there a better plan? Also, the Mall is back by the back lot tour, right?
