robinschroder
Man alive!!! Well, despite being a bit spooked by how close that 'calculated guess' turned out to be (even if the proportions I guessed turned out to be a little skewed), I'd like to radiate "mad props" to ncf for using the same method I did to work out the total! And, of course, thanks to Elissa for taking the time to count up all of those coins! Robin

cfc
^^I worked out roughly how many dollars per pound I had last year when I cashed in my old money basket, but came up $35 short on my guess--so much depends on the mix of change, too. (Memory was probably a bit faulty, as well.) Congrats to you, by the way. Now I'm really looking forward to cashing in my cache of change this spring! Louise
Congrats Robin! Y'know, in all the time I spent in the US as a kid, I don't think I ever saw a dollar coin. Are they pretty rare? I notice you only have two of them there Elissa, wondering whether that's because you don't see them much or just because you were only putting the smaller change into the bottle. waterviper
"SAMSONITE..I was way off!!!!" Wow I was so off!!! I guessed $450.00. I guess that shows to go you that I am as thought up as you messed I was!! Ya we americans dont know the true value of the american dollar!! The way the prices keep going up around here, I guess we are trying to be optimistic!!
ShoubraStreet74
The printer in the second photo is identical to mine! Oh, and, I obviously lost. I guessed too low (125)

ebl
I think I guessed $500 or some ridiculous figure. Congratulations, Robin, for an almost dead-on guess. "Y'know, in all the time I spent in the US as a kid, I don't think I ever saw a dollar coin. Are they pretty rare?" (CoasterLou) Dollar coins are just not popular in this country. I don't know why they insist on making them, except for vending machine use. And why they make half dollars is beyond me because hardly anyone uses them. They're rather large coins (bigger than the dollars) and a pocketful of them would be hard to carry. Eric
pagemaster_b
And why they make half dollars is beyond me because hardly anyone uses them. The sole purpose of the half dollar is for the blackjack tables at the casinos. At least, that's where I see them all the time. The only other time I've used half dollars was when there was a quarter shortage a couple years ago while I was working at WinCo Foods. We had to use them to stretch out the quarter supply. People weren't happy about that, especially the ones needing coins for the laundromat.
ncf
Second place! Not bad Believe it or not, I was first about to guess $155, but since it wasn't topped off I guessed $
Scaparri
Congrats Robin! Y'know, in all the time I spent in the US as a kid, I don't think I ever saw a dollar coin. Are they pretty rare? Well, the dollar coin was pretty much nonexistant as far as use went until like six years ago when they decided to come out with a new version. It's still not very popular. There just isn't much point for it.
