SeaWorld San Diego (SWSD) Discussion Thread

p. 61: Jewels of the Sea Jellyfish Experience coming in 2024!

Recommended Posts

Absolutely unreal. It's one thing to have an opinion about something and to voice them in (relatively) more appropriate manners. It's another thing to risk your life vandalizing city property to make your voice heard. Their intentions and expectations do NOT match many of their actions, and quite frankly, it gets them no further than did groups like the Westboro bunch.

Speaking of which, PETA has been called Westboro Baptist Church of animal rights.

I'm a teacher and my 2nd graders last week in there weekly Scholastic news had a article about the whales and PETA and how they agree. So you are correct. They are targeting the young ones. Terrible.

That is really sick. I hope eventually that one day, that your students will find out it is a load of bs.

I wish I was allowed to tell them my side but sadly I'm not allowed too. I have to follow the guidelines that I'm not allowed to state my opinion, they need to have there own opinion and not To interfere.

I really hate to be an ass, and I see you're a long time poster.

However , you said you're a teacher, and that brings out the English Minor in me.

Misuse of "there" in the first quote. Should be "their"

Misuse of "too" in the 2nd quote. Should be "to"

Also same misuse of "there." Should be "their"

I realize you said you're teaching 2nd grade. But you still might want to refresh your Grammar & Spelling skills with a night class?

^ I do teach them correct English but I have quite a few learning disabilities and when I'm at school I have to triple think everything when I teach. When I'm on my phone which is where I post stuff, I do type fast without thinking and make a few mistakes. What does a few spelling mistakes have to do with my posts?

I'm looking at all the YouTube comments on Blackfish related videos and OH MY GOD....This whole thing just brought out some of the most irritating whiteknighting social justice warriors I have ever seen on the internet. They think that they're doing this great service to the world and that they're making a difference, but guess what? THEY'RE NOT. Their entire foundation of anti-SeaWorld hate was borne on a foundation of lies and distortion from a documentary.

totally understand regarding challenges from learning disabilities.

and I wouldn't have commented if it were just spelling mistakes -- we all make typos.

you had USAGE mistakes. It wasn't a misspelling, it was the wrong (but similar) word being used. That concerns me when someone presents themselves as a teacher.

seriously tho, no offense intended, I really was trying to offer a constructive suggestion to help refresh grammar skills.

And yes, that PETA is targeting kids as young as 2nd graders (and younger even!) is horrifying, and I thank you for spotlighting it!

Heading to SeaWorld tomorrow! Actually tonight, really. Once the significant other is done with work we're driving the 4-1/2 hours to San Diego to avoid the LA traffic in the morning. Three new shows since we last visited earlier this year! Fireworks, Shamu's nighttime show, and Cirque De La Mer (was closed for the winter the last two times). There's also the evening Sea Lions Live show that I believe is different from the usual daytime show, so that'll be fun!

Oh, also yay for Manta (seriously, airtime machine) and Journey To Atlantis! Ah, screw it. Yay for the cheesiness of Wild Arctic, too!

Edit - Oh yeah! And the new entrance will be 100% open, too! Last visit they only had two touch pools available as part of the soft opening, along with the massive gift shop.

Vine and photo dump time! Quick report first, though -

The park was quite crowded. Luckily with SeaWorld rides are not the focus. The shows are. Throughout the day they were turning people away from the arenas because there were simply no more seats available. We missed the midday Sea Lions Live show when we were 10 minutes early. Blue Horizons we were part of the last 10 people to scoot through the gate before they cut it off. Pretty nuts, haha.

What's awesome, though? NO LINES! Seriously! The place was a madhouse and both Manta and Journey To Atlantis had 5-10 minute waits all day long. The operations staff is incredible here. Wild Arctic had about a half hour wait but there's not much than can be done with that ride for crowds. We opted to skip the simulator and just walk to the animals.

It was a great and long day at the park. We arrived around 10am and stuck around all day through the fireworks. Speaking of the fireworks, they're just right for the event. They do the 25-minute Shamu's Nighttime Spectacular and the fireworks begin almost immediately after. They tell everyone in the stadium to hang out for the fireworks, too, so it's not a ton of people trying to exit while also staring at the sky. They're only about 5 minutes long, but like I said, it's perfect for the event. Just a nice button on the end of the day!

Onto the fun stuff -

I found this weird bubbling / gurgling vent by Manta. It spit water up at me, too.

I've finally managed to get my trip to San Diego scheduled and after getting everything set for next week Wed-Fri. After getting everything booked and planned out I realized that next week is ComiCon. Does anybody happen to know if this is going to make it a little more crazy than a usual Friday? Also going to spend Thursday at the beach and Belmont

^ I really hope you managed to find a decently priced hotel. Hell, the fact you were able to find a room at all and not be out in San Ysidro is nothing short of a miracle!

It'll probably be slammed. My TR right above your post was from last Monday and people were being turned away from shows constantly because they had reached capacity. You shouldn't have a problem with the rides, though, since their ops are top notch.

^We're staying in Oceanside so it'll be a bit of a drive. But one of the points of the trip was my niece wanting to see a bit of CA so it works out. I'll deal with whatever comes and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the majority of the crowds will be hanging out by the convention center haha.

^ Oh wow, yeah that is a bit of a drive. 30 miles or so. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the park in the morning. The 5 is one of two major arteries between San Diego and LA and it gets insane. When we left the park at 10pm last week and drove up to Carlsbad (just south of Oceanside) there were still a good number of cars on the road.

Learn to love those HOV lanes. I'm pretty sure they're available for that stretch of highway. In California HOV means 2 or more people (other places generally require 3), so you'll be fine. They're lifesavers.

Since you're staying in Oceanside, why not make a trip to Legoland? I'm not sure of your schedule. If you check my TR in the Legoland thread you can get an idea of how it is currently (read - nice park, horrible ops). If you need a way to get 40% off tickets, too, I can send you the link I used.

I was at SeaWorld last week and loved it. It was my first time at any SeaWorld park. The theming was excellent and I really enjoyed both coasters. Journey to Atlantis had an amazing drop and a solid coaster portion and Manta had tons of airtime despite its small stature.

Screamscape is reporting that the budget for the 2015 attraction has been cut and nothing new will be coming! If this is true, it is extremely disappointing not only for this park but the entire Seaworld brand!

I saw that post as well. That would be very disappointing since I loved the park and the attention to detail. Plus, the park was quite crowded.
