Walibi Belgium Discussion Thread

P. 28: Mecalodon trains arrive at the park!

Recommended Posts

Was thinking to go this year to Walibi BE but whit this news it will be 2013. Hope that the name can be related whit a coaster in Walibi NL. Why? I think these 4 Walibi parks must look more like each other now they look like 4 different parks whit the same name. So hoping Sound factory or something like that would be great for Turbine.

^indeed, I wouldn't be surprised to retheme it as Speed of Sound like in Holland. I really hope they'll include strobe lights since the whole coaster will now be enclosed. I remember seeing a POV of Tower of Terror in Australia with fantastic light effects. I'm daydreaming

...and, I'm sure, somewhere, with no knowledge of the news going on, R.D. is figuratively jumping for joy. He doesn't even have to read the news. I'm sure he just KNOWS.

^^So true. I think the main reason I'm not a major Schwarzkopf fan is that there are so few operating installations in the US, and fewer still of any note. If more of the coasters that made the company (in)famous were still around and running well, I'm sure it would be much closer to the top of my list of favorite manufacturers.

This is excellent news! Turbine sounds like quite the fun ride, and enclosing it should make it even more interesting.

No.

Original themes, original rides, please.

Missed this while we were in Dubai! So glad to hear the good news. I already felt this coaster was pretty disorientating with the partial indoor and lighting package, I can't wait to see what it will be like fully enclosed!

BTW, did they ever fully take down their megafail coaster?

^Yes Elissa, on its 3rd season if i'm not mistaken. After several flops (they even invited Jean Claude Van Damme to officially inaugurate it) they removed it, which in my view is a good thing since it was literally disfiguring the skyline. The park hasn't had any significant upgrade since... They keep removing rides (shame) and add nothing... so far. it was about time for Turbine, but the majority of the public is dying to see a new coaster. The park to follow and stay tuned on right now in Belgium, seems to be Plopsaland. They do an awesome job there, adding something new every year, and they even have a new coaster planned for next year (rumoured = Zierer ala Legoland) All the budget of Compagnie des alpes seems to be gone with OzIris this year. Fortunately, this one is not too farfrom home for me either

I drove by the park this week and noticed the rails of Turbine (on the spikes that will be enclosed) have been painted black and they seem to be using the same colour on the supports too. So at least, something has been started... I'm curious to see the trains and wonder if they'll be the same as Hershey's SDL, and also if they will keep the former "rainbow" colour scheme of the old trains or if they will totally change them to something else, maybe themed (like on "Speed of Sound" in Holland) or a more "industrial" shade... wait and see

Turbine was/is my favorite shuttle... and the only one to beat out Greezed Lightnin.

Everything after GL was substantially farther down on the list.

Now with BOTH these coasters reopening in 2013, I sometimes have a difficult time believing it's not all just a dream.

I also have a soft spot for Turbine as it was my first Schwarzkopf ever. I rode it with some heavy coastered enthusiasts who told me its flywheel launch was the strongest ever, but they also found that the brakes on the way back were applied a tad too much, preventing the train from climbing very high on the back spike, unfortunately. Maybe they'll tweak the ride so it goes high on both ends now ?

Hearing the news that Sirocco/Turbine will be reborn/re-invented has added a little bit of joy to the year, making this the second Flywheel shuttle loop restoration worldwide in 2013.

And I don't know why the neighbours complain so much about it... I mean, i'd pay good money to buy a house where I could hear the sound of "CLUNKZZZZHHHHHEEEEEEWONK" every 75 seconds or so... I'd have no problem with it at all.

Crazy neighbours just don't get it!

WHAT???? The time I rode it, it ran just like Greezed Lightnin' did: with no brakes on the way back AT ALL. That was the main reason that those two models were so much better than the others IMHO. I'm completely bummed to hear that they were braking it when you rode it and I hope that there are no plans to ever do that again.

Ditto with me and that little beach house nestled in the crook of Boardwalk Bullet.

They once interviewed the person who owned that house on "How the States Were Shaped" and it didn't seem like he minded. Though, I think he would have trouble selling his house.

Anyways, wouldn't a partially enclosed tube would work, like on California Screamin' since if the noise is directed to the amusement park, the neighbors wouldn't care.

I've actually thought about approaching SFoG and buying the land in the middle of the MindBender... and building a house with a wrap-around porch/deck...

The re-themed park trains.

One is themed to rock, the other to pop. Each train has its own soundtrack and station... and only stops in that station.

So unfortunately you can't use the train to get to the other side of the park anymore.

SkunX (rock)

WAB (pop)

And a little update on Turbine... lots of painting going on:
