Land across from the racetrack and casino is becoming a new Western Playland. After long battles with the county, owner Pat Thomson is beginning to move some rides to the new area which is about 50 acres larger. However, he still has an 8 year contract to stay at Ascarate Park in South El Paso. "We're gonna take some rides and new rides and operate two parks while the main park is there and that's where the new rides will go," Thomson says. The City of Sunland Park is also widening and improving a major road for more traffic. Officials expect an increase in homes, businesses and hotels. They are also working on moving two adult businesses next in the area. They're hoping to move one to another place and say another was built illegally and are working on that.
