Port Aventura is ready to open a faster Dragon Khan

• The ride that will reach 84mph in 3 seconds will have a faster acceleration than a F-1 car.

Port Aventura theme park has invested this year in a thrilling addition. Along with Dragon Khan, the new coaster will be unique in the world because of its features including an acceleration that will take trains to 84mph in just 3 seconds. Although the ride’s name is still unknown, its model is called Accelerator and the company that has worked to build the new ride, ThinkWell, claims this ride will be ‘stunning’.

Its layout is about 2700 feet in length and will be in the Mediterrània section of the park. The ride will feature three trains with a total capacity of 72 riders at the same time, which means an hourly capacity of 1600 riders. The actual ride time will be about 25 seconds from start to end, although 40 other seconds will be spent watching a small preshow that involves an inventor. This investment has cost 15 milion €uros and 500 people have directly been involved in the project. In April testing is due to start and in May the ride will be opened to the general public, despite the park opening in 23rd March.

SENSATION OF DANGER “The riders will have the sensation of danger and the ride’s themeing will increase this sensation” says Fernando Lampreave, ThinkWell’s mechanical engineer. To achieve this we have built the ride at only 40 feet off the ground. During the layout we will pass through a large rock trench, fly by trees and other obstacles and dive into the Mediterranean lake. “The trains will allow riders to have a sensation of freedom with their feet dangling freely. In some points the riders will be only a feet and a half away from hitting rocks and plants, fact that will increase the excitement rate” pointed Lampreave.

With this new addition the park hopes to reach the 4 million guests a year. Last year the park had an attendance of 3,9 million guests. Port Aventura’s spokeswoman Almudena Mazuelas has said: “We want to receive new public to open all-year round”. In 2008 the park will open three golf courses to attract more European tourists.

New photos of the coaster.

Wrapped trains. We can confirm that the trains will be maroon-ish/purplish and that they are themed to wine barrels.

First underground corner (after the launch section). As you can see, the trains will run REALLY close to the walls and ground... hope no-one gets injured.

We thought that all track-work was done: NO! There's this little piece of track missing at the end of the launch track.

Lake turnaround.

And finally, this sexy pic of the zig-zag section between the underground turn and the hill crossing over the launch track.

Rambla means boulevard directly which you could say street/walkway/ or in this article i'd say the meant the path/bridge it goes over.

Can't wait to ride this coaster tis year. that zig zag turn looks evil!!

What does it mean "Furius Baco"? I thought a "Baco" was some sort of snake. Furious Baco would have been an angry Mediterenean snake. But furius baco... anyone?

The above link says that the coaster will open may ending / june 2007. Any news about a precise opening date? Or is there any news about a pull through or some actual test riding?

If that video is accurate, then it looks like FB will have a fantastic constant speed, which is one thing I love.

Well in an article posted earlier in this topic it says that Furius Baco will have an average speed of over 60mph so it will have constant speed throughout the whole ride.
