HWFan
What a great thing to do, for a long time employee! Congrats to Dave! I hope the his now namesake fountain brings in $$$ for good youth projects. I believe the money from the parks' fountains go to some kind of child hunger charity. TheDealMaster
^ Do you see it returning at all next year? To answer all of your Fright Fest related questions from the last few days: I think I may have come off sounding like I know a lot more about FF 2016 than I actually do. For all I know houses like Blind Fury or Insanity Alley could come back with entirely different names and some different themes. There's also a lot that is still up in the air. The one thing that is certain is that FF 2016 will be even bigger and better. By the way, it was great getting to see a few of you in the park this weekend, just by chance. I hope you enjoyed your visit, as we enjoyed & appreciated everyone who came out to make this "extra" weekend a huge success. I'll try to post some more information and pictures regarding the end of the year & Dave's retirement party/gifts, but it's been a long weekend for me. However, I am looking forward to just working Monday through Friday 9-5, which will let me have my weekends off...until we get to January/February with the rehire party, job fairs, and training classes. Finally, just a quick FYI, the official opening date for next season is (Good) Friday, March 25th, 2016! It was great seeing you at the park Saturday and what a fantastic day it was! It was by far my best day this year, also the only day without some major issue. Seriously, my compliments go out to all park employees, but above all, ride operations were great this weekend. As a perfect example, this was the only time I can remember where my Batman train didn't have to stop coming into the station. (I have hundreds of cycles in on that ride for comparison.) I know not everything was open but what was had been properly staffed and everything (at least from what I could tell) was running smoothly. I guess it was just something about the absolutely perfect Fall day and the last weekend at the park that just had everyone in great spirits. I don't think I saw anybody else mention it but some of you on here would be happy to know that on Saturday morning there was a ceremonial "blowing up" (safely animated dropping with fireworks and smoke) of the Cubs Thunder sign. Within the hour, they had the rightful title restored to the ride. Very fun involvement activity, and even had people from Team Fredbird on hand to help. Also I'm VERY happy to see we're starting park operations earlier again this year! I of course like the less popular, less crowded days, so I may actually get some use out of my pass next year. Only went about 6-7 times this season.

HWFan
HWfan - hopefully you can get photos of them removing the Rush Street Flyer!! I wouldn't think that the installation of Fireball wouldn't take that long.. They have already begun the removal of the wooden deck around and up to the ride. I'm guessing it will happen pretty quickly as it needs to be removed, refurbished a tad, shipped to Canada, and reassembled. I'm planning on putting together a big off season "trip report" this week, hitting every area of the park in the next three days.

prozach626
Thanks for the update. I know you said some major infrastructure changes/upgrades were happening to the park this off season, but do you know what they are in detail? Sorry if you already explained them. The biggest one (happening now anyway) is the replacement of some underground utility lines from 1971. They've been working on it for a few weeks now, as they're located around the employee lot and maintenance buildings. The massive metal plates covering the trench are giving me the chance to improve my wheelie skills at least. Thanks, Josh. I'm just looking for hints to this five year plan you've spoken of. HWFan
^They actually just finished covering the trench from that asphalt this afternoon. I'm guessing the wood from RSF's deck will be pitched, as it's old. Also, it looks like we'll have to wait until next week for my full off-season trip report in which I will simulate what it's like to be a Guest. Get your sarcasm shields ready! Speaking of which... HWFan
Whoa whoa whoa there everyone. We've spent so much time thinking about "what could we do" that we never stopped to ask ourselves should we. Speaking of which, here's what I think is a super cool idea for a kiddie/family coaster that was shot down for a single flaw. However, I still wanted to share it on here since it won't be happening anyway... One of everyone's favorite topics to complain about used to be (or still is) the neutering of Moon Cars' layout with the addition of American Thunder. To give a bit of background information on the attraction, it used to have a station where the toy store across from First Cone is today. There were two tracks, as the ride was very popular and needed the capacity. Then the catering grove was added and the station had to be moved, meaning that the layout never crossed under the train bridge anymore. The single-lane layout was still pretty good though with plenty of space and a nice covered bridge. Before we move on, let's take a brief historical view thanks to Google Earth. Not sure exactly what the layout is at this time, but you can see that the catering grove has not been built yet. With the kids area still down front, the Moon Cars made pretty good use of the space it had available. Once BBNP opened, the Moon Cars enjoyed a couple years of a vastly expanded layout. You can see the lighter new concrete. That layout was short lived, as American Thunder was destined to occupy much of the area. And that leaves us where we are today. Even though it's not a long layout, you have to give the park some credit for their "let's just put the track through/under the roller coaster" idea. It definitely makes it a unique experience. So, if the Moon Cars could be moved to a place where they would have more room and add more cars to the circuit (rather than the approximately four cars that usually run at a time), I think that area could be used for something really cool. You could use the existing Moon Cars station or station area for the station of a Vekoma roller skater. The lift hill could follow the Moon Cars' path, curving around to the open space in behind American Thunder. Then it could have a few dips and turns followed by possibly the coolest climax of any roller skater: some quick twists and turns through the structure of American Thunder. IMO, it'd be absolutely perfect. However, even though parents would be able to ride, not being able to see their kids or the train for most of the ride is what made this proposal undoable in the end, but for what it's worth, I thought it'd still be pretty cool. Vonni
^ It is cool, but it would be a really odd place to put a kiddie/family coaster in that area of the park.
SteveStL
The Park needs a Jr coaster, great idea. The Moon Cars should be yanked anyway, surprised the attraction lasted this long.
HWFan
Thanks for the info, Josh. When did that proposal take place? My first year, 2013. I think it'd be the perfect spot because it'd give the younger kids something to do towards the front of the park, which is dominated by Batman, American Thunder, and Mr. Freeze. But anyway, I was in our HR Director's office today presenting my research into the feasibility of a certain program (which might get the green light, meaning my first paid business trip to a fairly far away place). While the meeting was exciting enough already, I found out that in a weird wall that you can only see when you're completely in his office, to the right side, and turned around, there is a huge (seven feet tall by three feet wide) aerial picture of the park from 1976. It's crystal clear. The most interesting park for me was the Mississippi River Adventure. You could see its course, the submerged guide-rail, and storage/maintenance building, in addition to four boats parked in the station. I really wish there was a high quality version of that picture on file somewhere (I'll look into it), as it really is something cool.

Vonni
I apologize for the double post, but I just came across this on YouTube, and thought I'd share it. It is a fan concept of Iron Boss. I personally find it quite meh, and too much like the "original" Boss. If we were to get an RMC I Box conversion of The Boss I think it would be a lot better than this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjAFlia5rvE

prozach626
Topper track would be cool, too. Maybe with a little spruced up profiling to make it ride slightly more aggressive.
parkjunkie
^ I second this. As much as everyone wants an Iron Boss, I think the way the layout is set up, you couldn't do as much with it as some of the other IRON refurbs... Just topper track with a few polished up areas and it would be perfect
coasterkid124
That layout for Iron Boss isn't so appealing to me. It's not like the original layout is bad either, it just got really rough like Ghost Rider. If that turns out good for Knotts, Boss could use that treatment instead. As for American Eagle I found a more appealing RMC treatment on YouTube. There's some funky elements in there. That would be a much better coaster IMO. Edit: This video has already been posted on the thread before. Most people are against touching Eagle it seems. I just ran by it and thought it was pretty cool.
