Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

ThrowbackThursday - Presentation time has arrived for a look back at most of the concerts and major special events that Six Flags Over Mid-America/Six Flags St. Louis have had throughout it's 44 seasons (I know that this is not a 100% complete list, I doubt I will ever be able to come up with all the concerts the park has ever had, it's a lot), this is the list as it stands now (it could be added to in the future):

I wish they would bring in some decent acts besides christian music...

I'm guessing the cost of getting big musical artists to perform just didn't fit in the budget anymore. The Christian concerts still pack in HUGE crowds, though.

its crazy how much bands want to charge to play at your venue.. at least $200k for a decent popular artist..

I thought someone posted a link awhile ago to the cost of some acts. There are some very decent acts that can be had at the 15-25k price range, not sure if they would draw more people to the park.

I am just impressed with the variety offered some years, country, christian, R+B, Oldies, Pop, Rock, comedians and more.

Thanks ZIP that was fun. There is definitely one you are missing 1989 most likely, I think it was the Smithereens. I remember well because the GF recently had knee surgery and I had to push her in a wheelchair up the hill.(that was awful) Outside chance it was +/- a year, but I am certain whatever the show was it is not in the list. It is just impossible the two of us would have gone to any of those bookings listed in 88-90 and I know it was alt rock.

My wife has worked in radio for 20 years and digital music has changed the concert scene greatly. There was a time when the goal of most most acts when touring was not to make money but promote album sales. As revenue dried up with mp3 they were forced to change the business model and make their money off the tours.

That was a great list, and some of the acts really surprised me compared to the recent Christian concerts. There are so many things that go into choosing an act for a venue like Six Flags besides just the price of booking them. The great thing about the Christian acts is that the audience usually consists of a lot of adults. The amount of Guests that attend those concerts AND don't have season passes is pretty high. Besides the approx. $10 - 15 per ticket, the park is making a lot of money on the one day tickets for those folks.

If you look on the other side of things, an act like Selena Gomez would definitely bring more teens in. However, especially in the STL area, a lot of those teens would already have season passes, which would mean that the park would make a lot less money on just the one day tickets. At the same time, with more famous names, the park can also charge more money for the tickets. It's crazy how much there is to think about when bringing in acts. I think that the park has seen huge influxes of one day tickets for the concerts the last two years, which mean that the Christian bands are a great balance for the park, even though people like myself may not be the biggest fans.

Fun Fact: The park almost booked Carly Rae Jepsen (Call Me Maybe) for 2013.

Would put money on the Justice League dark ride rumor. Was at the park and took this picture outside of Scooby Doo.

I have to agree with what was said earlier also either they are trying to throw a huge curve ball, are the worst group at dropping a hint known to man or, the ride will be something other than justice league. The hints just don't match but we shall see soon.

On a side note I'm ready to end this summer terribleness bring on the fall, the best time to be at the park by far!

Carrowinds announced Fury325, the worlds tallest and fastest Giga coaster. Meanwhile, SFSTL teases the announcement of the refurbishment of a dark ride.

Or you could be positive for once and see it this way:

At least three other Six Flags parks (Great Adventure, Over Georgia, and Discovery Kingdom) are rumored to be getting a horrible, low capacity carnival flat ride. Meanwhile, Six Flags St. Louis is replacing its rundown, low capacity dark ride with one that should be superior in every way.

Welp, it pretty much looks like the Justice League dark ride is confirmed via here (Ctrl+F stlouis to find the release). The name will be Justice League: Battle for Metropolis but that's all that's on the site.
