Im goin to SoCal

Recommended Posts

So here is the battle plan:

Sunday, 11:50, land in Orange County, pick up rental cars and Southern California Passes. Drive to Disneyland and drop off uncle. Then drive I-5 to SFMM til closing (@6)

Monday, Disney/Cali Adv. w/ Princess Dinner

Tuesday, Disney/Cali Adv.

Wednseday, Disney/Cali Adv. w/ Charater Lunch

Thursday, Knotts Berry Farm, w/ Midevil Times dinner

Friday, Sea World or Universal Studio's

Saturday, land in Denver at 4pm

Ok, there is the plan. What do I need to know that is important? Any tips for Knotts or Cali Adv? Any advise on how to get as much done as posiable at SFMM in only 5 hours?

Especially for Knotts, Ive read in books saying to go to Ghost Rider first then Xcelerator. But this was way before Silver Bullet was even built. I want to get a lot of rides on Xcelerator in as possiable.

Where are you staying? If you staying in L.A. County be very careful with when you leave if you go to Sea World because the traffic on the 5 gets pretty bad going South on most days.

BTW if you still havent chosen to go to either Universal Studios Hollywood or Sea World you should go to Universal because Sea World has really nothing to do except for Journey To Atlantis, Shipwreck Rapids, and Wild Arctic ride wise. I dont even think that any of their shows are too good either. Not even Shamu. At least at Universal Studios you wont get bored quickly.

DCA~

I don't know what exactly you want to do there, who you're going with, or how bad the crowds will be, so I just wrote things based on my trips to DCA.

--Go to Soarin' in the morning, early. It seems to have the longest lines.

--CA Screamin' has pretty fast lines. Fastpasses usually aren't necessary.

--Tower of Terror had relatively short lines in the morning.

--Sun Wheel and Mullholland had slow moving, long lines.

--If you're with people who like shows/parades, see Aladdin and the Electric Parade.

--Don't stay the whole day--you'll get bored, even if you do everything they have to offer.

That's all I could think of right now. I tried not to write too much.

And like Eric said, the freeways can get really bad. There's not much you can do about that though.

leave early to get anywhere. i just went their from Maine, found the same problem all the time. and give yourself time too. as for sea world / ush i prefer ush, its always cool to see a movie studio still filming things the tram tour is not to be missed. we saw them filming desperate house wives while we were their. if you have and afternoon to see like the jay Leno show you can find tickets in side the park at the prop store for many different shows filmed in Hollywood.

Wow, three days at DLR! You'll be sure to do evrything at least twice!

DLR: Hit up Disneyland at park opening and immeadiatly head for Space Mountain. After Space, go over to Splash and get Fastpasses (they run out really fast so be quick).

KBF: Xcelerator first if you want to get a lot of rides on it. Try Ghostrider at night, it's a totally different expierence!

SFMM: You won't be able to do much stuff there seeing that you probably won't get in the park till around 2:00. Do want you want to do the most first, then settle down and try and get on everything else.

I'm wondering when you're going because I have a DLR pass and would like to meet up with another person from TPR.

Oh yeah, for Disneyland, make sure to go to Indy right away. Then Splash Mountain. The lines for those two will be 10 minutes long, and then a few minutes later, they will be 40 minutes. I don't know where Space Mountain fits in, since it was closed when I was there.

Go to Disneyland when it opens. You might want to leave for a while when the crowds get bad in the afternoon.

For Knotts get to Ghostrider first, then head for Silver Bullet and go towards the back of the park where Riptide is and work your way back to Ghostrider. For SFMM, the Roaring Rapids areas closed so you have to walk past Bugs Bunny World, Goliath, Riddlers and Jet Stream to get to DejaVu from Viper when it used to be just walk through Roaring Rapids. The park is not crowded in the back by Batman, Goliath and Scream from 5 to 6. For Disneyland get there before the park opens and SPRINT to get a Space Mtn fastpass.

Best to hit, Indy, then Splash, then head over to Space.

Since you'll be there for a while! May I recomend that you should try out the Blue Bayou at least once!. Its inbetween Pirates' exit and Club 33. But if you do decide to go there you need a reservation and the earlier you get one the better!

Were staying at the Candy Cane Inn or Desert Inn.

Brent, its cool that you would wanna meet up, but Im not really down for that. I mean, if you were a person I had strong relationship with, like a friend (because I barley know you!), Im just not for meet up with people from the internet. Sorry

Whatever you do...........Do not go to Universal Studios! It was the worst theme park experience of my life. I thought that Legoland was better. I strongly reccomend SeaWorld. That was a great experience for me and it was hardly crowded not like having to wait something hours for a 40 second coaster.

Well you have to appreciate movies to like that place and its not a place for rides, its about great shows and movies. HOW do you say Lego Land is better? Thats like a soccer mom and like five-year-old kid place, its ALL kiddie rides there. The only time I've been to Lego Land was on the opening year even though I live a few minutes away. Also, the only time I've had to wait for Revenge of The Mummy longer than five minutes was the day after it opened, and I go there frequently. Sea World is good but theres a lot more people there I'd say than Universal.

Hmmm...Airport to Disneyland...you're looking at close to an hour there. It might be better to stay in the OC and head straight to Knott's for the early afternoon.

Once you get out of Orange County, you leave the rebuilt I-5 with HOV lane (6 lanes each way) and hit the 30 year old road (4 lanes crawling) It's at least an hour from there to Magic Mountain, even with the traffic flowing.

The other thing to consider is that the rides at Disney are pretty tame. Saving Magic for last could work out really well for you.

Look around at Ralph's Grocery store, sometimes you can save a couple of bucks at Knott's.

The only park that I've ever had problems with about bringing a camera onboard was Knotts. All the others should be fine; and no. I don't think its necessary to call the parks ahead of time. I never ask if I can bring it on but I always make sure that the ride ops see it. If they have a problem with it and tell me then I'll glady put it away.
