You guys are kidding me right? I just watched the section me video for the first time and it hauls A$$ holy crap. This thing is a monster.

Dude... that train was crawling through almost every element. I expected the insane speed at the bottom of the first drop to carry throughout the majority of the ride, but holy crap, it barely even inched through the first element.

When the camera is that far away of course it looks slow. Same goes for an airplane in the sky.

It was flying over the lift hill, but didn't seem to gain much momentum through the course.

Seeing as it has no launches, no elevation changes, and nobody's getting on mid-ride, it's physically impossible for it to gain momentum through the course. Physics, man.

 

 

It can gain momentum by going down. Momentum is based on mass and speed. What it cannot do is gain energy (only transfer potential energy into kinetic or vice versa, or into heat/friction).

Like I said, seeing as there is no elevation change (i.e. highest velocity achieved at bottom of first drop) and there is no launch (i.e. no boost in velocity) and nobody is getting on mid-ride (i.e. mass stays constant), it is impossible for it to gain momentum as it runs through the course. Net momentum, at least, which is what the post seemed to imply. Obviously there are alternating gains and losses throughout, but it's a net loss beginning to end - it's not supposed to gain momentum through the course.

 

Granted, dude was probably just talking about how it lags more and more as it goes on instead of having the hills and such be smaller to keep the pace going strong. I think I kind of like the pacing so far - this thing is just too long to have Skyrush intensity beginning to end, so something a little less aggressive but double the length seems awesome.

Yeah, I''ve taken many physics courses over the years and just didn't want to make my post too complex. I used momentum because it was the only thing I could think of at the time. Pacing is a much better way to describe it. I was trying to say how it doesn't keep a lot of its velocity or rip through the elements like Skyrush.

 

Of course it won't gain momentum overall, but the net momentum is changing as the ride changes elevation. The elements seem to have tighter radii than Skyrush, but are taller and don't gain as much velocity.

Wow, the last few pages have been an exercise in patience. Let me see if I can summarize - It's a lot of "armchair engineers" trying to asses how much a ride will suck based on a couple of bad videos of testing runs, and as annoying and obnoxious as their comments are, most of them would give their left nut to take a trip to the UAE ride and and probably end up enjoying the crap out of it!

 

Did I get that right?

 

This is why I spend a lot less time worrying about insignificant details about rides, and just go and HAVE FUN! Even the worst Chinese knock-off SLC is more interesting and entertaining than a typical day of work...

 

 

...unless you work in porn or at a strip club or something.

I'm thinking with those wing seats, this ride is going to still be pretty insane. It's hard for me to even imagine going upside down in those office chairs with naught but a bar across your thighs. There's no way this ride will disappoint. Kill some thighs, maybe, but not disappoint. This is definitely one of those rides that's going to feel a lot faster when you're on it. Even if it's slightly less crazy than Skyrush, I don't think you could keep up Skyrush's intensity for that long without it getting really uncomfortable.

Nobody should be surprised at the loss of velocity through the second half. Skyrush CRAWLS over it's last couple turns heading towards the station, it's actually kind of amazing how quickly it happens. Something about the trains, they just don't hold their speed that well. But Intamin knows this and I'm sure they've accounted for it in their designs. Their rides usually keep the level of intensity up pretty well to the end, so I bet this ride will be no different.

 

It also doesn't surprise me at all that the straight airtime hills look to be going for more floater than ejector, considering the reactions people had to Skyrush. Ultimately I think that will fit better with the restraint system then having these hills that make everyone's upper body shoot forward until they're practically snapping in half.

What?? Ok that last turn isn't very fast but the small airtime hill before is just as insane as the others. I know what you mean when you say it loses speed very quickly but the layout is made so that that loss in speed doesn't bring a loss of intensity (at least that was the case on my rides).

So yes, if you take into account that this one is longer it doesn't do poorly as it hits the brakes with some speed.
