I took a quick walk around the new Magic Planet FEC at Mall Of The Emirates. Its only been open a week and, as usual, was very quiet when I went. These pics are all VidCaps so the quality isn't brilliant and the lighting in the place make it very difficult to get a good shot.

Here we go.

IMGA6638.JPG.4e517eb9588ac6250f19d95b79cddda4.JPG

and the usual restaurants

IMGA6640.JPG.dc0d12cba71d1e18afe1b9d9c3676d09.JPG

They also have bowling

IMGA6692.jpg.84825cbdafdc057013ff720b958c7577.jpg

Its not open yet

The main rides area

For kids, of course.

and a really cool DDR clone

They do have the drum game though.

IMGA6705.jpg.b0bb45a9ac1654bee2e3bf220b6326ce.jpg

and there are LOTS of them

The usual array of machines

IMGA6680.JPG.0fa82e6a01fcaf952cbc5a75a928ad89.JPG

Once inside it doesn't look to promising

IMGA6718.jpg.c7fb4f5943b5a5adde99e0ee661ffb87.jpg

... a McDonald's. This mall is so big they have 2.

IMGA6780.JPG.13da249c74c1bf123f960df1a8351613.JPG

They even have a roundabout in the food court. and.....

So I took the main entrance through the food court

The guard would not let me in that way though.

This is the entrance you see when coming from the car park

Pretty cool and long but making a loud clanking noise.

On the way out I decided to leave by the exit I was not allowed to com in. Inside I found a rotating star tunnel.

^^ The people were not there because it was Saturday morning and most people are back to work and all the schools are in. If I had gone on a Thursday night you would not have been able to move in the place.

^ The Frisbee does look fantastic. According to the leaflet it is the first one inside, not too sure about that claim.

I would love to live there. But my wife won't consider it. Then I talk about the shopping.

What they are building is just so sweet . Dubai land, the worlds largest malls, towers, islands etc.

Doesn't hurt they have one of the best airlines either.

What's crime like down there -- do you know statistics offhand? From the little I've read, the police run a tight ship.

Oh to Toboggan again! (I grew up in Canada).

^^^ Crime is virtually non existent. Several houses have been broken into in the last few months and that has led the papers here to declare an epidemic of crime. It is a very free society. you can only by alcohol in Hotels or from the booze shop if you have a license.

you can walk around the streets at night and not be worried. Women will be stared at by the Indian labourers bit will very rarely get hassles as long as they are sensibly dresses.

overall I love the place.

Some of the construction pics on the Ski Dubai site are incredible -- thanks for these 'interior' shots. Sometimes a Non PR shot says more.

Glad to hear about the crime rate -- I've looked for actual statistics online, and if I remember correctly, it seems like its safer than any major city in America, not that that says much as America is one of the more violent countries on earth.

This thing (indoor snow hill) is about 30 stories high. For you Disney World Fanatics its like skiing down the dolphin hotel's roof (but not with such a great slope).

Good job!

On the other hand, the UAE remains, essentially, a tribal dictatorship (there has never been an election there), where the courts are run under Shari'a Islamic law, sex slavery is widespread, and a woman has been sentenced to 150 lashes for becoming pregnant outside of marriage. It's against the law to criticize the government or the ruling families. And if you don't have that alcohol license, you're subject to being thrown in jail for having a drink.

Don't get me wrong. I once flew Emirates Air and it was very nice, as was my stopover at the Dubai airport. But for the time being, if I have an urge to go to a theme park, I think I'll stick to Six Flags; they may not have the greatest ride ops, but at least they don't flog you for misbehaving.

I have to say that is all correct, however it really does work for them.

If you are not a national you MUST have a job to live here. They really look after the locals and make sure that their customs and values stay top proirity in their country, smething I wish my native England would do.

Shepp:

There are two court systems. One secular, one Islamic. This dual system is well documented. I despise inaccuracy. I flog you!

The president and vice president are elected every 5 years. The public influences the council through regular channels and the counsel elects leadership. More inaccuracy. I flog you again!

Adultery and prostitution are illegal and flog-able. Little can be done about this because its mostly a tourist based industry. I flog you for distorting the reality of the situation!

Its Fl-og, its Fl-og, its better than bad its Good!

I don't mind the severity of punishment because personally I'm not for prostitution or adultery. I think drug abuse and drunkenness aren't appropriate either.

Having lived here for 10 years when ever I go back to the UK I am Shocked by the way people dress and their general lack of respect. I think it is very easy to be critical of the middle east and Islamic principals, and indeed was before I lived here, but I have never felt safer anywhere else in the world And have never been anywhere that acepts other cultures as much as they do here in Dubai.
