Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

They usually only jerk around with load procedures on or near super busy times, why, who knows. Alas back to normal with re-rides a plenty.

Hallelujah! That's what was confusing to me, was the place was dead this past Sunday when I was there. But, good to know I can enjoy some re-rides quickly again this Sunday. Thanks for the update!

Went back tonight, happy they did get rid of the assigned seating on Texas Giant, Titan was a walk on ALL night...it was wonderful. The cool and threat of rain I guess kept people away...but of course, the ride ops failed on Texas Giant as it was a huge line. The park really was almost like a ghost town, but then I found them all in line for Giant lol Everything else though was pretty much a walk on tonight.

I took a (very) short, almost pointless

. It really only looks like they've gutted Adventure Theater and began adding new walls for the various scenes. Still, signs say they're aiming for a spring opening.

And here's video of Holiday in the Park 2014:

How long was it between each train dispatch? The worst I have ever experienced was on I305 and it was abkut 7min between each train.

About 3 minutes or so, Titan and Texas Giant both, they were waiting until the train that was out came back and hit the final brake runs. But often times they still weren't ready to send the now loaded train out. *Sigh* one can only hope they manage to get better someday.

Hello all! I'm gonna be heading with Pitts marching band to Fort Worth for our footballs team bowl game. We should have all day Thursday, New Years Day to ourselves so I planned on going to SFOT with some buddies. What kind of crowds should I anticipate? Also, is riding all the coasters (at the very least all but the kiddy) a reasonable thought? I think hours are 11-7 that day? Gameplan ideas? Finally, are Mr. Freeze and Batman both closed for the season?

Welcome! Yes, Batman and Mr. Freeze are closed until the start of the 2015 season for their rehab. I wouldn't anticipate much of the GP except others may have the same idea as you from out of town. Everything else is open, the Sky Screamer is a different thrill. I've gone on it about 5 or 6 times and I still get an uneasy feeling of thrill on it. Superman also is a fun must do. By get as many rides as you can on Texas Giant and Titan as the ride operators unfortunately can be a tad slow. Shockwave is a good way to get a few loops in your life, and Pandemonium for a ''Mouse" coaster is pretty fun with how the car rotates 360 degrees. The park sadly lacks a bit of punch when major rides are down. But there should be plenty enough to do to have an enjoyable day. Hopefully it gets dark quickly enough before closing as they did do a good job on Christmas lights this year! Good luck to your team against Houston!

Well, after hearing what negative things you guys say about the park, I expected the worst. I was actually surprised. We had a few employees in the ride stations ask me if I liked the ride and told me to come and ride it again. They asked us how are days were, and overall weren't that bad at dispatching trains. I got most of the rides in last night except pandemonium, skyscreamer, and superman t.o.p.

Titans- holy crap was that thing forceful. It just smashes you into your seat and that airtime hill was awesome if I had my restraint one click loose. Also could some one explain what the timer in the station means

Shockwave- if you ask me, it didn't feel extremely forceful like I xpected. Yes it was stronger than most rides but I felt titan was stronger. At least this had some good moments of airtime!

Mine train- pretty nostalgic as it was my first coaster ten years ago to the date. I was four I beleive and since yesterday was my birthday I was fourteen so that was cool. The ride was pretty painful though

New Texas giant- holy mother of airtime. The ride was amazing. Though some of the hills felt quite a lot like floater hills especially the sideways one by the brake run. My favorite seat is the back right. That hill before the mcbr has the most insane moment of airtim!

I was also there Friday night, mainly just to process our season passes and give our daughter a chance to run off some energy after a busy week. The lines at the turnstiles were probably 10 deep or more, likely because of people coming in with the cheap season passes, but it moved quickly. We mostly hit up rides we could do as a family: the carousel, a few rides in LT Boomtown, Cloud Bouncer, the train, antique cars, and Gold River. I took a quick lap on Sky Screamer. I waited 2 cycles, probably a little over 10 minutes. I hadn't been on it at night and not at all since its opening year. I wouldn't say the ride scares me, but I definitely get an uneasy feeling. There's just something about twisting around in a tiny seat suspended by chains that high in the air that's unsettling. The park had steady business but it was far from busy, especially given the warm weather. I heard it was an absolute nightmare yesterday. No surprise since it was 70 in the afternoon, still in the 60s at closing, and the rain chance is high today. The employees on the rides we were on were pretty good. Most were friendly and seemed to be working with a purpose. This is our first time to buy passes in a few years, so I'm looking forward to hitting the park every few weeks. We'll probably go at least one more time before the end of the season.

It times the ride operators and "challenges" them to dispatch a train every so often (I forget the exact time, maybe like 90 seconds or something?) And then it also keeps another count of how many times they've done this in a row I believe. Unfortunately a lot of times it's the slow passengers that cause them to break their streak.

Speaking of Holiday in the Park crowds, is it me or has this event gotten insanely busy these past several years? It used to be the most dead time of year for the park with nonexistent crowds and now it seems like it's just as busy as spring break at times (depending on the weather).

Maybe it's the season pass deals they're always offering (buy next year's but get in the rest of this year for free)?

HiP has been busy the last 4 seasons. I can remember in 2012 on a Saturday around 3pm traffic being backed up on I30 and Hwy360 for at least a half mile with everyone trying to enter the park. Totally insane. Friday nights seems to be the calmest time along with after 8pm on Sundays. Other than that, forget it.

The time on Titan is set to 60 seconds and was much more attainable without the seat belts.

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning to completely re-build the I-30 / TX-360 interchange immediately northeast of Six Flags.

But after years of delays, state and local officials are getting serious about finally connecting the two highways at their merge point, near the northeast edge of Arlington’s entertainment district.

The Texas Department of Transportation, which owns and manages both roads, is in the planning stage of a massive makeover for the interchange that could begin within a couple of years — if funding for the project can be found. They hope to get the project built by 2018.

Work could begin as early as next summer, but more likely 2016. I can imagine construction on that interchange would be a big inconvenience in the short term for park guests coming in from the freeway, but probably an improvement once it's all complete. The McDonald's restaurant and a few gas stations will be demolished. Shouldn't affect anything at the park, though Copeland Road (and the intersection with Six Flags Drive) will be slightly realigned.

Yes, 60 seconds, but I can't remember a time even before the seat belts that they dispatched a train by 60 seconds lol Granted, if they had some no articles allowed on the ride and forced you to use lockers, they'd be quicker. Honestly though, after seeing Cedar Point crews handle guests with articles to put in bins and they ran 3 trains without stack-outs in September, then I'm not convinced they are going their fastest.

^ Yeah, a lot of the ride crews at Cedar Point are really impressive. Especially when they're running all the trains for a coaster, and there isn't a single instance of stacking. After growing up going there and seeing their operations, I find myself getting really pissed off at ride crews at other parks my GF and I attend. Six Flags doesn't really seem to train their crews too well, or maybe they just let anyone do it, as opposed to picking out crews based on efficiency.

That was their Intamin Looping Starship. Well, guess the rumor about it being relocated turned out to be false. That's being cut into pieces for scrap. It wasn't even that old, being built in 2006. I'm not familiar with the ride, so was it that unreliable that SF decided it was better to scrap it?
