I know here in the UK some of the major parks do have alcohol available, including spirits. Or at least last time I looked they did, I don't normally drink then go ride coasters. Seeing that Jerryland (New Cowboys Stadium) is moving in down the street, it make good business sense. It'll allow them to attract a more diverse group of vending to the park. Maybe we'll get some decent eateries for once. Purple: With beer sales and theme parks in the US, it depends on the region of the country its in. The part of texas where SFoT is based has a conservative bent, but I dont see a serious public outcry to sell beer as its available at other restaurants/bars in the area. Drunkeness is usually not a problem because the beer is priced high, as it is at all amusement parks that sell it. If someone wants to get drunk before entering the park, you can't stop that anyway. The Kemah Boardwalk has a Margarita stand literally 5 feet from the entrance of the Boardwalk Bullet. WOF sells beer also, but only in their BBQ restaurant and sports cafe. I think its a good move, at least this coming season since I'll be visiting there. Like Moose said, it's not going to detract from the so-called "family atmosphere". Those drinks are too expensive to turn the park into a huge Oktoberfest. Nothing to worry about. Besides most of the time when I see a problem, the people causing the problem aren't old enough to purchase beer anyway. I'm imagining they are adding a service to the park to fill a requested need. Namely bringing more adults with spending money into the parks. That's one of the problems that Six Flags is trying to address. Besides Disney (at the hotel and certain locations within the park) and Universal have beer, liquor and wine service for years and they haven't had problems and those pride themselves in a "family atmosphere". I've personally seen a few drunks ride it. -GG At first I thought "you got to be kidding me" about the whole Beer thing for SFOT, but then I remembered all the times I saw Beer being sold at other parks. There was a guy who sat behind me on Viper at DL carrying a rather large empty cup of some sort of Beer last may, and he was probably what I would call "moderately drunk." Quite frankly, he was hilarious. Anyway, my dad ordered a Beer at CP when we went in 2004, so since a lot of parks sell Beear already, I'm thinking this is a good move, as it will probably bring slightly more adults into the parks. I was at SFGAM once and saw a guy being held by park security because he had given beer to a minor. He tried to run from security and got tackled by two gaurds. I'm not sure I would really call Kemah a "real" park, and the fact that its more of an entertainment venue explains that a lot. Thats cool that they are going to sell now. Our SF was denied a while back. Damn bible thumpers. More parks should sell but to be honest I wouldn't necessarily say that a "majority" of parks sell just yet. But I did happen to sit on the boardwalk and enjoy my margarita while waiting for the Friday night fireworks. I don't have a problem with SFOT (and Hurricane Harbor) selling beer. I'm sure the price point will make it difficult for people to get drunk, and I'm at just as much risk of having a kid who just ate a funnel cake puke on me, as I am some dude with a beer. Except during Howl-O-Scream, thats when everyone and everything gets a bit out of control but it is handle very well. There was a lot of predictions that it would be terrible for the park but it really made no difference at all. I was working at Excalibur which was right next to the Festhall where the beer was sold and to be honest we were expecting trouble, there was no more than the usual. As others have pointed out, it is very expensive to drink at a park and those who really want to get drunk will do so before hand or sneak in a flask. It was on the news every day for a week about how the mayor of Arlington is against it and whatnot. I don't see anything wrong with them selling beer at SFOT. Like most people have said, it is usually so expensive (think sporting events) that you usually only have one or two. If some idiot wants to get drunk, then chances are good it will happen before and during the visit. Personally, I like it on a hot day when you are chillin' out walking around enjoying the sites and sounds of a park. I don't abuse it and act like an idiot, but there are always people that will act like that whether they have been drinking, or not. I was at Halloweekends last fall with my father and some friends and we were drinking and partying at Camper Village before we went in for some late night ride action. We patiently waited for the front seat of MF for the last ride of the evening and had a great time. Two people got busted for line jumping right before we were supposed to board the front seat. They actually would not start the ride until security came and escorted the people away! They did not lok intoxicated...the guy was just being a jerk because he was big and muscular and thought he was a bad ass threatening families and kids. We were buzzed and didn't bother anybody and the ride was a friggin' blast!!! I'll tell you what, if booze can make the Mean Streak an awesome coaster, I'm all for it!!!!
