Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

That's the most Six Flags thing I've heard - make it a rule to only open the gates for 3 seconds to "speed things up" (I guess to increase capacity?) only to make it so that guests can't get thru the gates in time and send out empty rows OH, and still stack every cycle because I assume SF ride ops are being SF ride ops and goofing around/wasting time doing nothing/don't care. But hey, they're trying because they have the three second gate rule 😂🤣😅 As a former ride op, this both tickles and infuriates me.

I attended a Private Event for my company last weekend. I had a chance to visit with the new Park President for a bit. It was a pure delight. He is an awesome individual and I believe the Park is now in very good hands. So  many Maintenance projects around the Park that I cannot list them all. He mentioned some plans for next year- general comments but I don't feel at liberty to repeat. If they do half of what He wants, the Park will begin to look very nice. Currently they are replacing the worlds most ghetto park fence with very nice looking black metal fence. Already looks so much better. Mr. Freeze is being painted,  Pandemonium is being painted. Pirates of Speelunkers Cave revamp is underway. Many buildings painted and cleaned up. New shade materials on outdoor patios. One parking lot was scraped to the base and is being re-asphalted. Really good Maintenance projects happening. The Park was very clean and ran well that day. I was impressed. Good things ahead I think.

I would like to go to the park however it looks like there’s a lot of good rides closed. Any expectation on when Freeze will be done being painted? Why Riddler is down? Also the park is year round but Titan says closed for the season. Does that mean it won’t be back up until summer?

Titan is down because of a broken lift hill chain. .they have to wait for replacement part.

Riddler is ALWAYS up and down. . it breaks a LOT but often comes back up rather quickly, so I'd go and just hope it's open.

as long as Shockwave, NTAG, and Runaway Mountain are running?  always worth a visit. . and even stuff like Pandemonium, Catwoman Whip, Mine Train, Gunslinger, and other flats are fun and worth the trip (not Judge Roy tho, unless you ride in the very front).

go and have fun.

super SUPER disappointed in this move by Six Flags Corporate (based on this post from Ron, this does not appear to be his decision).

what a slap in the face, after he had done *so* much to improve the park for 2022, and the celebration year.

I wish him the best going forward. . but yeah, this sucks big ol donkey balls.

edit:  and I can't say more (because won't violate a trust). . but totally appears to me that Corporate absolutely stabbed him in the back after he put so much care, love, and effort into SFOT.

this really makes me angry

I am sooooo furious. He was awesome and was "tearing up jack" to make this old run down Park look good again. We "ALMOST" wound up with a decent Park. This new management Team seems to be making some very unwise decisions. I am depressed now. I had high hopes.

So with some of the above stories, is the community finally dropping its temporary love affair with Six Flags and back to shitting on them like we all used to? lol

I was loving a lot of what they were doing under the old ownership. The new regime that stepped in a few months ago has really done nothing good whatsoever from a fan perspective.

Obviously what we want vs what the shareholders want isn’t always the same thing, but as a consumer yeah… there’s really been nothing but bad news out of this company lately. Lots of firings and cuts everywhere…

Bert said in the SFStL thread that Ron was "shown the door". I wanted to reply but thought I would do it here instead of flooding SFStL Thread

From Screamscape: "From the sound of things, the new CEO seems to be ready to give the power back to the Park Presidents and empower the parks once again, who best know their own demographics, to help guide and lead their own future development."

Contingent that the statement is true, wasn't Ron a park president you would want to give power to? I do not know Ron or know much about it but from the sounds of things he was either an A or S tier park president. It sounds like Ron knew SFOT demographics best. It sounds like Ron has already been pouring his heart and soul into guiding and leading the park for future development. Six Flags didn't want to give the "power" to this guy? They want to give it to someone who was either below Ron, someone completely new to being a park president, or someone from a different park? If the replacement is from outside SFOT, how is that going to be a person who best knows SFOT's demographics? Makes me think there was something more behind this move, but I don't think its appropriate to speculate. But I can't see how this is a good move, and I can't see how giving power to someone brand new turns out better than giving it to Ron.

^ not sure where they are looking, only that they are "working to find the appropriate person to fill in this role"

. . . and they direct folks that "in the interim" to work with "the park leadership team"

can't/won't say anything more, as will not betray something that was shared to me in confidence (and I'm sure someone will leak that internal memo eventually anyways)

but yeah.. shit move by the Company.   And I'm basing that on the things Ron was doing for SFOT, not based on any personal relationship with him (of which I don't have anyways, other than always saying hello to him and having friendly conversations when I did see him out and about at SFFT)

  • 2 weeks later...

The park has cancelled the remainder of their Saturday night Fireworks shows and cut the operating hours back by 2 hours every Saturday the same day that they doubled the price of their season passes.

They’ll run a 5 hour operating day all Winter.

lol

from what I've heard (from a very reliable sources) that *this* particular cut is 100% due to staffing issues. . . . now how much of that is impacted by people quitting in anger over what's been going on lately in particular at SFOT?   I'd be really curious to hear.

but yeah. . this is staffing reasons, and I suspect if they are able to get staffing back up, those hours will get added back to Feb weekends.

It sure does seem like new Upper Mgmt has it out for this park tho, doesn't it?

we need those SFStL thread folks over here to post about how much "Mgmt *HATES* this park!)

"Management hates this park! We never get anything good! We always get the short end of the schtick! We have a growing metro area and are overdue for a new original coaster, why doesn't Six Flags get it! We are an original Six Flags park, we deserve better! Our competition gets it and is going bonkers, why can't we have what they have! They should sell the park to some bozo who still won't care about it! All we get are dark rides, new entrance plazas, and "throwbacks"! All the park really needs is a record breaking giga-strata, launched, looping coaster and it will make boatloads of money, and be the number one park in the chain! Why does Six Flags only put money into big parks? The park is in a growing metro area, we should be getting all kinds of stuff! Just look at Carowinds..."

There, saved them the trouble...

I am sure this will impact many of the refurbishment projects that haven't been completed yet...  I wonder if the old float-through dark ride will still get redone the way it was planned. I also wonder if Casa Magnetica will continue to exist. I hope at least Judge Roy gets it's love.

Hi y'all,

While snooping, I noticed that archive.org (The Wayback Machine) had archived snapshots of Six Flags' store pages. From these pages, you can see that, while not showing them on their website anymore, Six Flags is still selling their old and more competitively priced products.

This means that you can still purchase a monthly membership, for example. Or, if you want to pay $79.99 for a Season Pass, you can get a Gold Plus season pass that includes all of the Gold Plus perks (all parks access, discounts, etc.), and isn't limited like the current version of the $79.99 Season Pass (only SFOT, blackout dates, etc.). You can also still buy the unrestricted Season Dining plans.

Just use these URLs to view the products and purchase them if you want:

SEASON PASSES/MEMBERSHIPS:

Gold Plus membership, $6.99/mo. - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/20memgoldplus4nf

Gold Plus Season Pass, $79.99 - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/22gsp

Platinum membership, $9.49/mo. - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/20memplatinum4nf

Platinum Season Pass, $99.99 - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/22psp

Diamond membership, $12.49/mo. - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/20memdiamond4nf

Diamond Elite membership, $18.49/mo. - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/20memelite4nf

SEASON DINING:

1 Meal Season Dining (one meal and snack per visit), $59.99 - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/22basdp

2 Meal Season Dining (two meals and one snack per visit), $109.99 - https://sf-ar.store.sixflags.com/packageList/keyword/22pasdp

There are even more products still available for sale, but these are the ones I figured would be most popular. If you're interested in more, just snoop around the Six Flags Over Texas store page in the Wayback Machine. URL here, play around with different dates too! https://web.archive.org/web/20211124191805/https://www.sixflags.com/overtexas/store/tickets . To find the info you need, play around with the Buy Now links (you might need to dig into the page's HTML source).

Thanks,
Jane

Actually in the park yesterday at SFFT?  they were unable to honor things purchased but not activated before the changes made earlier this week.

I was with someone who had purchased an upgrade to their membership, but just hadn't gotten around to activating the membership at the park in the first place. . .so they would not allow him the Platinum upgrade and told him they were unable to access it in their system.     Instead they offered him a refund.
(tho they DID honor the dining plan he had purchased attached to the Gold+ Pass he had purchased online back in Dec).

just noting.. .that what you're suggesting isn't likely to be honored in the parks when you go to activate.
