Shockwave is my favorite ride at the park.

i can't see myself ever putting on a VR headset to ride it. . but who knows. .

I do love Shockwave, but I'll for sure try out the VR at least once. Just to know what it's like.

Shockwave is my favorite steel coaster of all time! But I don't think VR will ruin it necessarily. I'll try it once when I get back but since it's optional it's not a big deal.

Tonight I had the opportunity to visit the park during their full scale ride operation training. There have been some significant changes during the 2 months the park was closed and I'll show you around in the pics below.

If you are planning to visit the park this weekend note that Shockwave is not currently planned to be in operation. It is scheduled to open March 10th to season pass holders with the new VR technology. As you may already know this a free addition to the ride and is not required. The headsets will be cleaned and sanitized before each use, You will also be able to use a wipe at the ride station if you wish. Extra staff will be on hand to distribute and collect the headgear and personally I think everyone should try it once. There won't be any sound, just your imagination, which shouldn't be a problem for most of you who use your imagination nightly ;)

I'll let the photos do the talking...

This off season they put that $20/car to good use with some fresh stripes.

So first major change is a revamped front gate! Similar to SFFT's, you will pass through one of 20 metal detectors before reaching the ticketing area. This has proven to increase throughput. With the commitment to keep it staffed, lines should flow much smoother.

This use to be a Coca Cola stand with limited offerings, this year it will be a Macho Nacho Express serving up, you guess it, Nachos. The astute reader will also note popcorn and beverages are also available.

Flash pass got a much needed move on Titan. No longer will you trek up the exit, fight with those heading to the picnic area and punch your way through the gift shop. Nope, they listend, and now you'll take the middle lane straight to the front.

But my appeal was denied. Certainly a traditional woodie in every sense, and the retrack has helped, but it still hunts like nobody's business. Ouch! Someone really should place a harsher sentence on the Judge.

Allegra welcomes all of you to opening weekend. More changes are coming this season so stay tuned to this bat channel for all the deets.

Catwoman Whip is onsite, I put eyes on the parts driving out. You can expect the new flats as well as Spinsanity to open early Summer.

Is Spinsanity moved from a different area in the park, or is it in the same location just with a retheme? I'm sorry, I'm not from the area and have only been to the park once back in 2004.

This off season they put that $20/car to good use with some fresh stripes.

Yep, The above photo confirms it. SFOT is getting a "Scream" clone. It's going to go right over those parking lot stripes.

Interesting. Last time my partner and I were visiting the park we had our Fast Passes and there were a few Fast Pass employees, and some of what appeared to be Upper level Six Flags employees near the gift shop asking us what we thought would be the best route for Fast Pass riders to take when wanting to ride Titan. Sounds like the used our suggestion!

Anywho, awesome photos! Thanks for sharing! The "new" entrance" looks like it is going to be much better! Can't wait to get back to the park this coming summer!

I remember some kind of a crazy house walk through attraction at SFOT. Is that still there? I seem to remember it having a Spanish or Mexican theme?

Casa Magnetica. It's closed now, but they did have it open for a season a while back. I think maybe it was 2011 for the 50th anniversary?

So I'm hearing the front entrance worked out well the first day with the metal detectors separate. That was always an issue for this park. I'm glad to hear they addressed it and it's working. Especially seeing how busy the park was.

Hello, I'm going to SFOT for the first time in April. I was wondering if anybody could give me any tips such as rides to go to first, where to eat, "magic" seats on ride? Also, would you recxomend getting a flash pass? Thanks!

Good seats are front on steels, and back on wooden/rmc coasters.

you should read thru the thread, this question has been asked a bunch, with a lot of answers (some within the past 10 pages).

but if you want to ride the park's Bobsled (la Vibora), do that first, unless you are a single rider. Otherwise, the line gets long and stays long the whole day, so knock that out early.

Yeah, they were fully stocked for training night, if they keep it that way it will work very well

I foresee quite a few complaints on Shockwave if the VR doesn't give some sort of a heads up before the loops, they can be quite a surprise and cause some pretty good whiplash if you are not paying attention and holding your head back when the train pulls up into the first loop. I have had a few friends ride shock wave as their first looping coaster and get their head snapped forward to much discomfort.

Surprised they moved Chap's entrance back after all the work to move it to the Coca Cola Cool Zone in the first place.

I did not go to the park after hearing how packed it was all weekend. Could you see the progress for the 2 new flat rides or is the area blocked off?

The Coca-Cola thingy can always be put back, but with the storage and maintenance area for Chaps being right at the original platform it made sense to move it back since its queue is no longer needed for Giant.

They have put up a new wall so no peeking from inside the park in ref to the new area, you can still see in from the fenceline of the old strip mall and of course from sky screamer. Riddler Revenge is not on site yet to my knowledge. Boring foot work is about all that's been done. Officially opening 'Summer'

Speaking of openings, if you were planning to skip work on Thursday to try out the VR, might as well work half a day, it won't be open to the pass holders until sometime after 1pm.

^ Strip Mall Parking

OK so last night we got a short preview of 'The New Revolution VR Coaster' (Shockwave) before the park closed and I must admit it was pretty effing fun.

Due to weather concerns media was moved to this Monday so we will have all of the photos and video at that time. But weather permitting this weekend SP Holders can obtain a ride time at the ride entry and check it out themselves.

Patience will be needed as they are still working out their procedure and any kinks (thanks rainy weather!) but their process to load seems like it will be solid and I don't foresee it adding much if any time to dispatch once it's ready to come out of preview mode.

Due to the re-scheduled media event on Monday, March 14th, the ride will not be available for SP Holder Preview until sometime after 2pm.

I went to the park this morning and got a ride in on Shock Wave. Overall I was impressed. The headset adds something that's hard to put your finger on, but it made every drop and turn seem way more intense than what I was expecting. I highly recommend trying it.

Other observations I had as well as photos are here: http://guidetosfot.com/2016/03/spring-break-2016-report/

Backstage area, but the pic was taken from a public path. If he panned up and to the left, you would see the top of Shockwave's lift. The road goes around the back of the amphitheater to the park's ice plant and eventually dumps out by the warehouse and maintenance shops.
