Silver Dollar City in October / Great Late-October Parks?

Recommended Posts

Heyo!

Baring in mind that we're still—somewhat—in times of plague, and therefore travel plans can be up in the air, I've been going stir-crazy, and wondering how worth it a little October theme park trip would be. VidMate

Was thinking about visiting Silver Dollar City for my first time, but wanted input of anyone who's been. How is the park in the fall? How are the rides? Usually open? Mostly closed? (obviously not expecting any water rides to be open, but who knows). We're thinking about heading o Mobdro ver sometime around Oct 20-23rd, but dates are flexible.

That said, would love to hear any other recommendations for parks to visit in fall. We're based in Utah (and already have plenty of plans to hit up Lagoon), but obviously are willing to fly out if it's worth the trip.

Haven't been in the fall but I just got back from the park.  If you want the full version...

Short version though, it's one of the best parks I've ever been to.  Short on coasters and big rides compared to huge thrill parks, but what they have is wonderful and it's just a beautiful place with so much more than just coasters and rides to do.

SDC's Pumpkin Nights is great! Night rides on all the coasters are fantastic, especially Outlaw Run. There's a pumpkin trail where you can see expertly carved pumpkins. There are special menus all over the place (get the hot wassail). The whole park really focuses on crafts during this time too, and they bring in local craftspeople who will sell you all kinds of handmade stuff, in addition to the full-time craftspeople the park employs.

I used to say this was the ideal time to visit SDC, as attendance was lower than summer or Christmas, but that's not the case anymore. SDC is crowded year round now.

Aa far as plague, we are trending down after a peak about a week ago. Springfield Public Schools, the largest school district in Missouri, is requiring masks of everyone this school year. Several large employers are placing similar policies. Vaccination rates have risen sharply recently. We have a lot of conspiracy nuts around here, but things are in place to bring our numbers back down again. If you were planning a trip for this week, I might suggest going elsewhere. By October though, there's a good chance we're in a much better position.

If you're leaning toward SDC, I'd say that's what you should do. A lot of other parks are scaling back their Halloween events and I'm not convinced they're really worth traveling to, at least this year. SDC is actually expanding the pumpkin trail to 2 acres (probably just to spread guests out, but still, you're not seeing expansion from very many parks this year).

October's become our favorite time to visit as well.  I agree with YA that it's no longer 'off season' but it's still fine; we waited more for food than anything else.  Not punishingly hot yet still warm enough for the water rides to operate (your results may vary; my kids make me go on American Plunge with them in March lol).   Pumpkin Nights was way more impressive than I expected.  And not only the park is beautiful, the entire area in Fall is just lovely.
