Photo TR: Adam tackles Cedar Point, Kennywood and Hersheypark

Recommended Posts

After our time at Kennywood we hit the road to have an early evening in Hershey, PA. We used this time as a chance to experience Hershey's Chocolate World and to grab some food and drinks along the way. The next morning, we woke up and started our day at Hersheypark--with a flight out of Philly later that night, we had a limited amount of time to accomplish as much as possible before leaving the park to drive to Philadelphia. For this reason we added Fast Track to our visit and it definitely made a difference for certain attractions.

Driving into Hershey, this is always a welcoming sight.

As is this.

It isn't a visit to Hershey, PA without a stop at Hershey's Chocolate World.

004.thumb.jpeg.a4b942719a928c4eda1d98a27399dc23.jpeg

The main attraction...

005.thumb.jpeg.44b65e43642e3c93311bc0ebb7e76675.jpeg

Your hosts for the experience.

006.thumb.jpeg.9d085ebd55465e449ac239d9456d24f9.jpeg

Singing cows (and now a singing pig and chicken) greet you at the start of the ride.

007.thumb.jpeg.0207d0b17cda2990208100ab0c90a3e6.jpeg

Cupcake is a newer addition to the farm, I believe.

008.thumb.jpeg.b36b59bf9bcae003850d466f79ff3e19.jpeg

Time to get broiled!

009.thumb.jpeg.c3e21275abe1821e173803e3c4c136d8.jpeg

Some of the ride's effects are really impressive.

010.thumb.jpeg.e13095f03399a5ac6bfe4b5ebc3016c0.jpeg

"Taste the love."

011.thumb.jpeg.d8d36eaeb5492958f0caa5bf0a0c307e.jpeg

Just remember these icons when you eat their respective candies... Just think about them.

012.thumb.jpeg.02319a4d2d523c8a0b353d4242ee9711.jpeg

IMAGINATION!

013.thumb.jpeg.66ce999d90b5deb078a32afc5082338e.jpeg

After our time at Hershey's Chocolate World we tried to see if we could grab a spot at The Chocolatier restaurant in Hershey's new Chocolatetown area. Unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked and the bar had no seats available. We ended up grabbing a bite and a beer at Iron Hill Brewery, which was a solid choice.

014.thumb.jpeg.765dc338e6ec1e227ed7fc8b141a9b4f.jpeg

After dinner we weren't quite done for the night, so we ventured over the Hotel Hershey for drinks and dessert at the Iberian Lounge...

015.thumb.jpeg.b5f9ddc2d7f3a961aaa5bd8709f79136.jpeg

A really solid selection of drinks and some nice food options to choose from...

016.thumb.jpeg.d24391feae7061b3296e222334656a15.jpeg

The Chocolatier isn't the only place on property where you can get a chocolate martini... And this one was SO GOOD.

017.thumb.jpeg.faf63593b75d1196b6a70f30cff1f16f.jpeg

We couldn't resist the prospect of trying the Hershey's Cocoa Barbecue wings... The chocolate flavor was subtle but unique. Plus the serving size was really generous for a lounge!

018.thumb.jpeg.734d53479355ab5fea74cd421b348eaa.jpeg

We couldn't leave without trying the Strawberry Cheesecake and Italian Rainbow Slice Cake, both of which were exceptional!

019.thumb.jpeg.50dbe3f8a156c7f9ff68a9ac56881c8e.jpeg

The next morning while waiting for the park to open, we hopped back into Hershey's Chocolate World... There's edible cookie dough inside for those interested in partaking.

020.thumb.jpeg.d83437e32f1c594639135e9efede4df7.jpeg

They had Jolly Rancher cupcakes, each color a different flavor. If it wasn't so early in the morning, I would've tried one.

021.thumb.jpeg.cbc0ace77dc4368ee244988685b3cd77.jpeg

You can bet I brought some home with me.

022.thumb.jpeg.812a4af718df56265ae3e28a20588c6c.jpeg

I absolutely brought these Key Lime Pie KitKat bars home with me too.

023.thumb.jpeg.54c2ec494b027130eff8c5be908062cb.jpeg

Always a pleasant surprise at Hershey's Chocolate World when free samples are being given out.

024.thumb.jpeg.a1fc183d19596d16bf5e710d21359810.jpeg

Time to finally go into the park!

025.thumb.jpeg.e5b0480b53312ccdf40a60c0f163b364.jpeg

The last time I was here, this entire plaza was mostly dirt and was under heavy construction.

026.thumb.jpeg.0a2c8a515c0e7fb640a1f51f3845d2c7.jpeg

They hadn't even started installing Candymonium yet.

027.thumb.jpeg.3d803fafe146ea779daa3370759ce75a.jpeg

I do think the turnaround circling the "Kisses Fountain" is a nice touch.

028.thumb.jpeg.c912f0ec0926e0fe5b4be506c18d69c8.jpeg

Hersheypark's classic Carrousel was integrated into the new Chocolatetown section of the park.

029.thumb.jpeg.87da4e031eda41ca65dad1e3874753dc.jpeg

Lots of floater air...

030.thumb.jpeg.de2a5ed745b0812db0bf26a65fd16b2d.jpeg

With three trains at opening, it was a little surprising how poorly managed the operations were for this coaster. By the time we boarded, the coaster had a 65 minute posted wait time (we waited about 30 minutes with our Fast Lane access). Dispatch times for the coaster were... Not great.

031.thumb.jpeg.6fc1f52dc4413a906dd358537d3a988c.jpeg

The interior of the queue is lightly themed to the many Hershey candies...

032.thumb.jpeg.4c295c24916e860b9b8d64c783f015fc.jpeg

If you have Fast Lane, you link it to the HPGO system, which you get a printed wristband from a kiosk at the front of the park or inside of the park. Not unlike a Magicband, you tap your HPGO band at the entrance of the Fast Lane queue and merge point.

033.thumb.jpeg.ef373096279bc378913abcbe56faefbd.jpeg

If you're eligible to ride, you'll be given the green light to proceed.

034.thumb.jpeg.b80e64c77596366d2f756cf1cd9be8eb.jpeg

This looks like your standard B&M hyper coaster train... Which is pretty fitting.

035.thumb.jpeg.0ab656d2ef658c9622363faca5509e9b.jpeg

Candymonium is a solid B&M hypercoaster... A decent amount of floater airtime and a ridiculously smooth experience. If anything, it feels like the family-friendly alternative to Skyrush right next door, which delivers insane ejector air, way more intense maneuvers and a generally less appealing experience for families... I prefer Skyrush over Candymonium, but I could understand why this was built as an alternative.

036.thumb.jpeg.3e0055925a170cf13835103ad87fee8c.jpeg

Sidewinder wasn't running during our visit, but that didn't feel like a major loss for the trip.

037.thumb.jpeg.c039c000731fb1cf16a1a941dffba7a1.jpeg

Now this on the other hand was a welcome sight.

038.thumb.jpeg.55d441b1327b4043cd8bc436c3cadd47.jpeg

Stormrunner had been closed during my last visit to the park, and only reopened for the first time in two years a few days before our visit. The last time I rode the coaster was with TPR on the 2008 East Coast Trip.

039.thumb.jpeg.b19d4e54f122a1918bbbd5566de71eea.jpeg

Stormrunner is short but sweet. The launch is awesome and the top hat is quite fun.

040.thumb.jpeg.e7eb18b03ccdcc0e35447593dfe35941.jpeg

Fahrenheit was also closed during our last visit, making it over 13 years since my last ride.

041.thumb.jpeg.5a3b7e981aadcfbbe249b23b5cba06d1.jpeg

I'll probably get some more flack for saying this but I absolutely adore Great Bear.

042.thumb.jpeg.0acbf5399727b559bbce8bff56d19308.jpeg

I love the unique layout of this B&M invert and how it interacts with Sooperdooperlooper and Coal Cracker.

043.thumb.jpeg.8fbf329bdab21b0d7729dd1789510f05.jpeg

Skyrush is an insane thrill and definitely one of the most intense coasters I rode on this trip.

044.thumb.jpeg.1eec4c7b3ccb40aa495a5046ee980226.jpeg

Sooperdooperlooper was down for the majority of our visit, so I didn't get a chance to ride. I'll eventually get a chance to experience the coaster's new trains...

045.thumb.jpeg.fabc8246cf0731b4ffff1f5cef0e3a1f.jpeg

I rarely find myself wanting to ride a log flume but from the queue of Great Bear, Coal Cracker looked really fun. I'll be going out of my way to try this one next time.

046.thumb.jpeg.adcdeba7b4726609558e293924885d0d.jpeg

Just so much going on in one frame and I love it.

047.thumb.jpeg.400850dac95b40bfef141d2aeffcbc94.jpeg

"Laser Snake Horse of Fire Roll" I believe is how Robb described it recently...

048.thumb.jpeg.25488e64b187683c032001770beefebc.jpeg

I still haven't been on any of the Hershey Triple Tower yet.

049.thumb.jpeg.48a75fb17680a8f29c99cff5346d5dcf.jpeg

Such a cool look.

050.thumb.jpeg.58185c6ec4543969cedf54c980c2ce24.jpeg

Fahrenheit just looks great in person.

051.thumb.jpeg.1e85265b56f1251b91684535fa5815c0.jpeg

Especially when trains are running on it... I totally forgot how short these trains were.

052.thumb.jpeg.ea962461a32e6013c2e66357c6996e1b.jpeg

Overall Fahrenheit is a fun coaster. Not my favorite or least, but right in the middle.

053.thumb.jpeg.e88c951d9eb07a54a834729b3e2bc63b.jpeg

Now Lightning Racer... These two will always be amongst my favorites.

054.thumb.jpeg.43de09795cad92354ce6f7d41fc31aa6.jpeg

Still two of my favorites in the park.

055.thumb.jpeg.f0059297c507493565aa929b4f4ac8c9.jpeg

And they never disappoint!

Up next is the final report, part two from my day at Hersheypark!

After some thrilling rides on Lightning Racer we moved to finish the last few rides in the park on our list, to leave time to explore Chocolatetown on our way out. First up was Laff Trakk.

057.thumb.jpeg.a7962ad62b405d6e6c6d464942dee14a.jpeg

Laff Trakk manages to take a pretty standard coaster and give it some fun dark ride elements.

058.thumb.jpeg.ef25e02df6c942f99341191d359d6a69.jpeg

Not the first Laffing Sal we saw on this trip!

059.thumb.jpeg.5c7a96bcab3240084611fa58256238a5.jpeg

The ride isn't super efficient when it comes to loading, but Fast Lane helped us to get through pretty quickly.

060.thumb.jpeg.41055270103ba2b99b3d2773d895ad67.jpeg

I do think the station theming is cute.

061.thumb.jpeg.7606f48cbc185a7823037f186aaefd4f.jpeg

Proper representation found!

062.thumb.jpeg.e1343c17d3dc715ec2cdb0392e9bada5.jpeg

Wildcat is pretty rough at this point... If ever there were a candidate at Hersheypark for an RMC conversion, this would be it.

063.thumb.jpeg.be6303832592bc29d08fcec94c3f24f5.jpeg

It is a shame that Hersheypark is a Pepsi park.

064.thumb.jpeg.90df26e35ce37b366e91e2d2a251419f.jpeg

Seriously great to see Fahrenheit running.

065.thumb.jpeg.71dae0bf72aba210ca30213584c9446f.jpeg

Glad we got the chance to ride during this visit!

066.thumb.jpeg.10490a88d3db7f9898dddb33859fa7ee.jpeg

Socially distanced character meet and greets were still happening outside in the park.

067.thumb.jpeg.5e4659d7ee317ec367487e78608d3b0a.jpeg

Reese's Cupfusion was under construction during my last visit, so I was eager to try this one out this time around.

068.thumb.jpeg.e829d300d3e5324ac62e2cab7e04e27c.jpeg

The last time I rode this, the attraction was still the super bizarre Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge.

069.thumb.jpeg.9eb8739e72f89150687c9d6e7c921ba5.jpeg

Cupfusion is a serious upgrade from what came before, with a cute story, a far better digital target system (with targets integrated into physical sets as well as digital screens) and an overall more fun experience across the board.

070.thumb.jpeg.8bf9eb39f0d7ac6aab6d6074d01e7c6d.jpeg

There are some really clever uses of the ride space and the vehicles' ability to pause, rotate and change their speeds across the ride path.

071.thumb.jpeg.2ca5339d955cf21692e4a5e7253619d6.jpeg

I just barely made it onto the leaderboard for the day with 20th place!

072.thumb.jpeg.cd1ae24766bd86b9491e95d78db7b1b7.jpeg

Reese's Cupfusion gets two thumbs up from me!

073.thumb.jpeg.5fb44df2f0cf12fa8e4423f7f65d4e41.jpeg

Pour one out for the loss of my favorite treat stand, Makin' Whoopie, which was replaced with the less colorfully named, Cookies & Donuts.

074.thumb.jpeg.d633ed4f6d0679cfcf2f7a727ebd30d9.jpeg

Hyperdeck is an upcharge VR attraction in the Chocolatetown section of the park.

075.thumb.jpeg.b5c654422391a90fd97b52c689c79a08.jpeg

Unlike what The Void used to offer, it looks like your experience in Hyperdeck is a more stationary one.

076.thumb.jpeg.c76dfe85fe7ac84696e486308e276432.jpeg

Looking back at Candymonium...

077.thumb.jpeg.c159bf9782804e121940d7f10744cd91.jpeg

For the love of Larry.

078.thumb.jpeg.06165c147184b51047141894176827a1.jpeg

Again, a fun (albeit standard) B&M hyper coaster. Maybe it is exactly what the park needed.

079.thumb.jpeg.3446ebbff3a65a326a77a6fb04d068e0.jpeg

Another look at the signature "Kisses Fountain."

080.thumb.jpeg.76d76a4d731b4085674554532658509f.jpeg

I really like the look and feel of the Chocolatetown section of the park... The only thing I don't understand is the decision to put the shops and upcharge attractions like Hyperdeck INSIDE of the park instead of in front of it. Chocolatetown feels like Hersheypark's take on Downtown Disney, but for some reason, you can only access the majority of it during park hours with park admission. I feel like this would have been more successful being accessible without a park ticket and not being bound by park hours.

081.thumb.jpeg.e720b8efc2703944994ea07040c0e46a.jpeg

Exiting the park through the new Chocolatetown shop, Hersheypark Supply Co, there is finally a large, main store for Hersheypark.

082.thumb.jpeg.1e6924cf4f77783ebce639a7daee1469.jpeg

Inside you'll also find The Sweeterie, home to lots of delicious chocolate and baked goods.

083.thumb.jpeg.9fc27723054bd45fe766f68cd7440fca.jpeg

Lots of options to choose from...

084.thumb.jpeg.ec2e5d7136852f94ae3bffec72ac0be2.jpeg

And I mean lots.

085.thumb.jpeg.69f3bcc06df8d335fa8c0041319ad6cd.jpeg

So simple yet so enticing.

086.thumb.jpeg.b887abb27fcba2b8d38f15e6fa826e73.jpeg

"Wowza" is all I'm going to say.

087.thumb.jpeg.6caf017049a20ef089c2df6f3ddce074.jpeg

Flavors for every palate.

088.thumb.jpeg.dacc89d6875b20c5a5f3c6cc59c0c2f1.jpeg

Next to The Sweeterie is Milton's Ice Cream Parlor.

089.thumb.jpeg.f16ebfe57985fd787e57b23a784b4bf6.jpeg

Lots of fun flavors to choose from...

090.thumb.jpeg.7be7f260b96abf5163058ebdb434117b.jpeg

And lots of Hershey's candies to top off your ice cream!

091.thumb.jpeg.36438e87b99c5ef964c2a923fea9ced6.jpeg

I had to go with the Candymonium (Twizzler-flavored) and Toasted Marshmallow options (topped with Twizzler Bites).

092.thumb.jpeg.dff633859d51a772cbcb0bcdd9bbe83c.jpeg

Milton's also has more savory fare. The food actually looked really good!

093.thumb.jpeg.5b8d352173ddb42b9bb73a34e0beb028.jpeg

We couldn't resist.

094.thumb.jpeg.79f58ac397c2285839ac8a64dbd01c01.jpeg

Hersheypark Supply Co features a few fun pieces of Hershey history on display.

095.thumb.jpeg.d201a1067b2bc92d5585d47a24ec1e3b.jpeg

So much merchandise! Hersheypark Supply Co is a much needed addition for Hersheypark!

096.thumb.jpeg.fe1175a8fb03e9ad7afb274a9c5446c5.jpeg

We tried again to get into The Chocolatier restaurant and were once again told they were booked out, understaffed and the bar was full. But the place does look cool.

097.thumb.jpeg.9a30c4907056f2be2561ce2e5105ffa9.jpeg

Clever design elements for sure.

098.thumb.jpeg.2fd7ca37c188b5bba8081aa689cd5c6f.jpeg

I do like the lighting fixtures meant to represent the layout of three of Hersheypark's coasters.

099.thumb.jpeg.9ff6865807192e10ffbff12d1688ab8a.jpeg

A cool fixture at the entrance/exit of Hersheypark Supply Co.

100.thumb.jpeg.7dd20e169610d4d9d92524c936c6b4ae.jpeg

I couldn't leave without stopping at Chocolatetown Treats.

101.thumb.jpeg.8d21e3e70f31d2bf5e2907fde3c971d2.jpeg

This does look pretty picturesque.

102.thumb.jpeg.52a12167db02dc6ee5051fceebfab4e2.jpeg

Yes you will!

115.thumb.JPG.6d42233f11a7d47caeaf90b1d3beb568.JPG

Catching up on our ride photos from our visit, we were able to download all of our photos thanks to the photo package we purchased.

110.thumb.JPG.6a2a9952f48bbd5bc6cda211a4627814.JPG

My side lost.

111.thumb.JPG.4f5820c21faabe4928d7cde0c31d705e.JPG

My love for Great Bear is real.

112.thumb.JPG.e9daf0a65d8d335b23179f3dbb326ed9.JPG

Absolutely wild. Hanging on purely by the pressure placed on my thighs.

113.thumb.JPG.319b55d482b2017b09dbfd79841f0219.JPG

Still quite fun!

114.thumb.JPG.6078cbe75ccf115dc669ab5773d29cf7.JPG

As was Stormrunner!

103.thumb.jpeg.661e52d849c4c54ced0b9c9f5cd309b0.jpeg

Before leaving the town of Hershey, PA, we stopped at Troegs Independent Brewing for some beers and bites.

104.thumb.jpeg.b69f37f1ee5bcddb26703d5d6451243d.jpeg

I tried quite a few of their options!

105.thumb.jpeg.94eb83958cdebb00cbe84af56c61e2e2.jpeg

Togorashi Avocado was our first starter.

106.thumb.jpeg.29ef3b69123d4e12bffd7f5239fb54f6.jpeg

Beer cheese mega pretzel? Yes please!

107.thumb.jpeg.a2db1b25c51e5fa79148ebbc86655326.jpeg

Their braised duck was absolutely killer!

108.thumb.jpeg.1c61cf16c0093089b7456c219f8d8ccb.jpeg

 Can't go wrong with brisket!

109.thumb.jpeg.7bf9611821910e263a35056480d6719c.jpeg

The Spring Onion Tart was a surprise and a delicious one at that!

116.thumb.jpeg.2fba95325f01a12688ee99ba4a236f17.jpeg

After flying home from Philadelphia that night, I woke up the next morning to enjoy one last taste of Hersheypark...

the food all looks pretty amazing (other than that Twizzler treat. . but that's just me not liking Licorice - yeah, not even red).

oh, and the Carousel looks FANTASTIC where they moved it.

nice report

I agree that Cupfusion is a WAY better upgrade than I was expecting. Also, now I'm starving after looking at all of your food pictures!!!!

Honestly so much better than I expected! A really enjoyable ride that I’d definitely do again in future visits!

I hadn’t realized that the carousel was moved to Candytown but it definitely fits the new location well.
