Two weekends ago I made my way back to the Universal Orlando Resort to experience the new Mardi Gras offerings, but also to get a chance to see Velocicoaster testing. I'll have photos from Mardi Gras

It’s official: On Thursday, June 10, thrill-seekers will have the opportunity to soar 155 feet in the air and catapult up to 70 mph alongside a ferocious Velociraptor at Universal Orlando!

Imagine having no desire to ride a perfectly decent coaster lol.

I was wondering how long before it start floating around. No, that isn't hulks support. The poster didn't even alude to the fact that it could be.

He explicitly said it was a Hulk support in a previous post before he added the image...

My first day here in Clearwater, Florida had a nice surprise. As I walked into the building the very first thing I saw is a new support for Hulk. I asked if that is what it was and was told yes, that they are doing supports. More info and pics later.

That being said, as previously mentioned, this 'support' doesn't really look like any other B&M supports, so he could be just having some fun with the internet... Plus, why would they be manufacturing coaster supports in Clearwater?

It's also possible this is some sort of scenic support or part of the theming for the queue...

From my understanding, the poster works at a place that makes several companies supports. I think he would have said that was for hulk if it was. I have reasons to believe it is not for hulk

I don't think I have ever seen so much debate over who is building a coaster that we can reasonably sure we already know the layout of...

Does anybody know which scrap yard they were sending the track to? somewhere i saw reference to a blog that had pictures but couldn't find it.

This is kinda a stretch, but i wondered about buying a piece. i don't know if there are any intellectual property issues preventing this, but it would be neat. I own a brewery and would put it on display in the taproom.

I am also guessing it is really really heavy, so i don't know what would be affordable/ practical???

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I have heard they were given explicit instructions not to sell any of the hulk track or parts.

Pardon my ignorance, but how does that work when a park decides to scrap a coaster? Do they get some type of money back for scrap metal? Like recycling a really big can? lol

Yes, that is how recycling works.

It happened to a good portion of GL's coasters.

I'm excited for details to eventually emerge on this project! I am rather intrigued!

Part of the contract that Universal and the scrap yard have is that the scrap yard can not re-sell anything that belongs to the Hulk. I believe In The Loop actually asked the scrap yard.

Saw on Facebook that dragon challenge maybe next to get a refurb after hulk.

I will be VERY surprised if that happens since so many rumors I've heard tell me that coaster is getting exactly opposite of a refurb... but we shall see!

This sounds a little ominous...

I highly doubt they would close it. It's one of the best rides in the park. The only way I can see them removing it is if they are sending it to their new park and replacing it with an even better coaster.

Yeah, it would be a true shame if they removed it (if that's what being implied here)...it's a high capacity attraction, and in my opinion a great set of coasters!

I've heard that supposedly J.K. Rowling hates it and had wanted it removed back when WWOHP was being built, but Universal told her that they weren't willing to remove it, so they settled on a retheme instead. Not sure how true any of that is though. I've also heard that this was one of the reasons why USJ's Wizarding World doesn't have Dragon Challenge. For USH it's pretty obvious why it's not there- lack of space and the fact that it could interfere with filming on the backlot (noise, sight lines, etc.).

It would be crazy if they decided to remove Dragon Challenge in the future, but it would make sense especially with Hulk getting this large refurbishment. For Universal, they probably see opportunity for another Potter themed coaster with a lot more in terms of scenery and a storyline. Gringott's had huge lines and was a complete success, and it wasn't even that great to me (from a coaster standpoint because I was expecting more, but it was an amazing dark ride experience).

If they removed Dragon Challenge to replace it with something with a level of theming like Taron at Phantasialand, I would be all for it. It's still got to have some intensity though.

To be honest, we already lost more than half of Dragon Challenge when it stopped duelling.

See, I never got to ride them when they dueled, and yet I still think that they're two kick-butt B&M inverted coasters. No sadness here, they're both incredibly fun.

It's still a damn good invert, but dueling added a whole new dimension to that ride.

I agree 100%. I have been on the ride when it was dueling, and when it wasn't dueling, and it is by far much better when it is dueling. Half of the fun of the ride was sitting in the front row, and having the extra fun added in by the dueling elements. That being said, even though they don't duel any more they are still two amazing coasters. The dueling aspect was just... better. Now it always feels like it's missing something.
