Bolliger&Mabillard
GP: Six Flags sure is cheap... Even the regular guests know that? Sad... I will have to agree with the central theme over the last few pages that not everyone going to parks will know about rides. Heck, I've loved riding coasters since I was 10, but I didn't turn this into a hobby until I was 19. Before then, wouldn't have known an Intamin from a Maurer Shone. Astronomy has always been my lifetime interest, and I know tons of stuff about our solar system, nebulas, star systems, and even some binary code lol. The next time you encounter something "dumb" GP say aboout coasters, ask them what their interest is, and try to talk to them about it. These people aren't idiots just because they don't know that older B&M's are more intense because they're all Stengel designs and use nylon wheels, verses new in house designs with polyurathane wheels. Who would know that?...Well...at least I do.
Retro_Gaga
Kid in line for Demon at Six Flags Great Adventure - "Coaster Rollers don't get much better than this (points at Demon). Black Bird!" Goliath513
It makes me sad that no one in New Zealand has any idea what a good rollercoaster is like. I mean, four million people that have only ever ridden a standard Arrow corkscrew coaster. I was talking to a girl in my class who said she hates rollercoasters because they hurt her head. I know that isn't really a 'weird' GP thing to say, it's just really depressing It's the same here in Colorado with our "beloved" Vekoma SLC. Airtime&Gravity
^^When the train I was on was on the brake run on Viper, a father was asking his kids if they wanted to ride Rolling Thunder. I assumed he was from the NYC-Philadelphia and was talking about American Eagle. Now, this would not get him listed here. His kids asked which one he was talking about. He then said something along the lines of "the big orange one behind us." At Indiana Beach, someone was telling his friends how either Cornball Express or Hoosier Hurricane used to be a steel coaster, but the park turned it into a wooden coaster. Not said, but it made me wish I was blind. An elderly man was at Michigan's Adv. wearing a button up shirt, but the only thing was that it wasn't buttoned. Actually, there were a lot of red necks showing off too much skin at Michigan's Adv.
B-RadG
This isn't coaster-related, but in line for Flight of Fear today the woman said "We got 3 days left! Only 15 hours!!" Seriously... days are only 5 hours long now?!
dammie16@vt.edu
^I would have given her the benefit of the doubt had she said 36 hours since she may have meant time left in the park but 15? lmao
some sort of coaster dude
in relation to pirates of the carribean, one of the people i was with said "wow, they made a ride after the movie so quickly?" this was in 2003
Kennyweird
A lot of people ask what will happen if they're too scared to pull the ripcord on the Skycoaster, so we tell them. It's amazing how much courage people gain when they hear the words, "no refund".

These are quotes I tend to disagree with. See has he ever left the state? What parks has he been to? Did he specifically say "tallest fastest IN THE WORLD"? Did you reply, "Kingda Ka isn't here though!"? Had he ever heard of Kingda Ka? When people are misinformed about coasters I don't consider them weird or stupid because they are not us. My GF is very into coasters but she always asks which is the tallest or fastest and even things like, "I thought you said MF was taller the TTD" or things like that. Same applies to when someone says, "Wow this is the best wood coaster ever!" to something like Blue Streak or similar and an enthusiast goes, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? Are you stupid everyone knows this is small and El Toro/Balder is the best wooden coaster!!!"

Hercules
^ Very interesting question Larry. I know that this morning I went with the second button at the top of my shirt, and then worked my way down. After I got the last button at the bottom buttoned, I proceeded to tuck the shirt in, and then buckle my belt. I then did the very top button, and put on a tie. Would it then be considered a top-button shirt shirt it was the last in the sequence? Or do I go back to my original bout with the buttons, going down? I'm so confused. lankanboy101
The funniest things I heard were from ride-ops on a Vekoma Boomerang, Bat at Canada's Wonderland, when they drop you from the first lift. For Example "We will, we will, drop you, drop you" "A,B,C,D,E,F,G, you will drop in 1,2,3." "Counting down from 5...4...3...um what's after 3"
Bolliger&Mabillard
"Counting down from 5...4...3...um what's after 3" And Canada's supposed to have better a better school system than the States? Ha!
Keasbey Nights
In my AP Physics textbook, a picture of Steel Dragon is shown, along with a caption that says the ride's vertical drop is 95.3 meters long. Alright, I can understand an ordinary textbook making this mistake, but this is a college-level physics textbook. The authors obviously should know that vertical equals ninety degrees, which Steel Dragon's drop is clearly not. There's even a picture that obviously shows the drop being non-vertical. How the hell do physics professors make this kind of mistake?
Bolliger&Mabillard
^Not to flame you or anything, but that seems kinda nit-picky. No you say that this kind of "mistake" would be acceptable in a "regular" textbook, but the same authors and publishers (McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin, etc) make textbooks for all levels from K-12, all the way up to post graduate school. Also, this is a rare case (and I do mean RARE) where the end justifies the mean. The book took an example and took an everyday object and made it relate to the material being taught. So what if said drop is 75, 80, 0r 85 degrees? Typos hapen all the time, and that to me seems like something smaller than you're making it. Fallen Heretic
^^ I think thats exactly the sort of thing that isnt really in the spirit of what this thread was meant to be. They probably, like all textbooks do, just used a random picture of a rollercoaster to illustrate a physics problem, enabling the student to better visualise whats going on. I dont see anything weird about it. The values and details would be changed to make the mathematics a little bit simpler I imagine. On the subject of weird things said, someone told me just today that Tornado at M&Ds (in Scotland) is an awesome ride. Now that in itself is really messed up. If youve ridden it, you will know. Everyone Ive spoken to, even non-coaster literate folks, hate it. They only ride it cos its the biggest one within easy reach. Its either that or they are just be drunk.
