Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

This is a great thread!

The most 'pound myself in the head' thing I have heard from another person was when I was working at CP on the Blue Streak. "When is the ride going to open?" When it was raining.

In light rain, we could run one train. Heavy rain, the train would shoot the station.

GP: "When is the the ride going to open?"

RO (Ride Op.): "When it stops raining."

GP: "When will that be?"

I mean, I understand, they just wanted to ride...

Man, I miss that ride (before it was screwed up). One time I was mopping the drag brake and someone came up to the fence to ask me when the ride would open. I turned around and one leg went straight down between the cat walk and track. Ripped open, my face laying against a wet greasy track, I said "when it stops raining." I had to go to first aid, those screws ripped through my shorts and it hurt.

Remembering good times about BS, I thought I'd through this pic in:

I've been told a few times by my cousin that the Cyclone at Six Flags New England jumps off the tracks at one point during the ride, which obvciously isnt true.

My friend once said to me that they were going to make it so the Condor at Great Escape dropped down from the top, and that its always closed because they know no one will go on it.

^Really, its just a maintanance nightmare, and thats impossible to do that.

Relinquishment of ACE Coaster Classic title

Blue Streak was considered an ACE Coaster Classic until 1995 when the bench seats were replaced with divided seats, individual lap bars, and headrests. Blue Streak was not always the sky blue color it is today; when it opened, the wood was unpainted. In 2004, the original steel lap bars were replaced with more comfortable molded plastic ones. In general, wait times usually can be between 10-30 minutes, being most busy during early afternoon.

I have a feeling that this is what people are talking about.

HAHAHA *wipes tear of eye*. You won't believe this one. This is so stupid it is untrue!

I took my friend to Thorpe Park (THORPE PARK), nd we headed over to Colossus. Now, bear in mind this is the grand 10-looping coaster with 4 inline twists in a row and a cobra roll with two corkscrews and a loop in plain view!

Ok, here goes.

Me: Let's go on Colosussus

My Dad: Ok, Will (my friend), are you up for it?

My friend: Does it go upside down?

That is so stupid! HA! I can't make fun too much: I mean, he's my friend lol. After that, I just said 'there are no loops at all', and so, he went on it. Afterwards, he killed me...

So we were talking about Cedar Point today in class, because my teacher used to live close to it. It got pretty funny.

Teacher: "Yea there's that new ride called Top Thrill Dragster, and it goes 0 to 250 miles per hour in LESS THAN ONE SECOND!!"

Student: "Wow is that legal?"

Teacher: "Yea, and you go staight up 460 feet, then straight down 460 feet! And while you go down, you do 2 spiral twists!!! The whole ride is over in 4 seconds, so you don't really have time to actually be scared..."

I could not help but laugh....

I give her credit for getting the height kinda close....

But having actually RIDDEN it and pulling crazy stats like that......

Not trying to anger anyone on here but I think some of these are a bit unfair! The GP do indeed say some really stupid things but I don't think I would class a lot of these as stupid!

Just as an example:

Jason10 you were saying your friends comment about 'does colossus go upside down' was dumb as it is 'the grand 10-looping coaster with 4 inline twists in a row and a cobra roll with two corkscrews and a loop in plain view!' but he's not a coaster enthusiast, he might not have realised the loop belonged to the ride you were talking about and might have never heard of colossus before.

Sorry to use you as an example, it's one of many I don't really agree with!

I think some people forget that the GP don't know or care about half the stuff coaster enthusiasts would know but that doesn't make them stupid just because they don't know the exact statistics of every rollercoaster in the world!

There have been some really stupid ones in this thread though!

^ I was thinking the same thing about the Colossus comment.

And again I think some of the comments on here are unfair, usually about the more technical nature of the rides.

Having said that its hilarious people are asking the ride ops when the rain is going to stop

Here are some of the emails we get fairly frequently:

1. Would you mail me a brochure? (no name, no address)

2. How do I get to your park? (but they don't tell us where they are)

3. I can't find the Banshee on the park map...where is it?

(I'm always tempted to tell #3 to keep looking.)

Then there are the phone calls: "Are we on the same time?"

I posted a few of my favorites:this and this on our park blog.

Never a dull moment! Paula

I agree that it really isn't fair to rip non-enthusiasts for not being sufficiently "geeky." For example, I've heard a number of people waiting in line for BGE's Curse of DarKastle ask if it's a roller coaster. Being as the old artwork for the ride implied that it might be (it featured what appeared to be rails running past the castle turret), it's not an unreasonable question.

But as for those who complain about getting wet on the Roman Rapids, Le Scoot, or Escape from Pompeii, all bets are off.

The local morning radio show host was just describing the new Tony Hawk coaster at SFOT. He said that it's not for the weak, because it goes 80 mph. All of the co-hosts gasped.

The host is pretty much the king of misinformation. Very annoying.

Update: I just saw this on a local news channels website

"It spins based on the distribution of the weight in the car, so every time you ride it it's a little bit different," says Steve Martindale, the president of Six Flags Over Texas.

Martindale says the new ride is unlike anything at the park.

"It's 250-feet-tall like the Titan and run 80 miles and hour," he says. "It's a more compact, tighter coaster with a lot real tight turns and drops."

I guess that's where he got his info. The guy was misquoted...he actually said "It's NOT 250-feet-tall....". The media sucks.

My friends said that Rock n' Roller Coaster (MGM) has two different tracks. He also said, when there aren't a lot of people in the train, they put that train on the track with less flips.

I said, Rock n' Roller Coaster has 1 track, and still they think it has two!

I wonder if they are thinking about Space Mountain, but I have no clue where they got the switching tracks with less people part. Some people.

Well there's a difference between not knowing geeky facts and not knowing common sense. If a person says that a rollercoaster goes 300 feet instead of the correct height of 150 ft, that's not stupid because they don't know the real height or look that stuff up. But to not know if the rollercoaster you're about to ride goes upsidedown with the coaster in full sight is stupid. That person doesn't have to do any research to see that it goes upsidedown. They just have to take a quick look and see the track upsidedown. And I'm pretty sure that he should know that the loop was part of the ride if he saw the train go through it, back in the station, and see that he was in line to get on that train. I know nothing about Fine Dining, Nor am I a Fine Dining Enthusiast. But I'm not stupid enough to say, "Do the Chicken Fingers have meat in them?" And yes, The General Public is stupid. And it's not just rollercoasters or amusement parks, I've seen people ask ridiculous questions.

^I don't think this 'stupid' member of the GP was litereally stood staring at Colossus before asking if it went upside down. Its sounds like he had no idea which coaster they were talking about, and it doesn't say they were even stood next to it or anything.

Admittedly though if he got in line for it I'd imagine he may work out it went upside down since the line goes right under the track, and by the time he got to the station he'd recognise the cars.

^ Thank You, that was more the point I was trying to make! I wasn't saying the GP don't say stupid things i was merely suggesting that some of the things said by the GP aren't always stupid as they don't know as much about coasters as we do!
