Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

My family always regards to the inverts as "the one you hang down from", and never rides them because they think ALL rides that "you hang down from" bang your head around. Stopped them from riding Wicked Twister with me.

"Does it go upside down?"

Personally I can see how someone would think that this ride would be a coaster with all the hills and turns inside the building, but still. If you would look at the size of the building, you would easily see that it couldn't hold a tall, fast, indoor looping coaster. It might for a small kiddie coaster, but it still wouldn't matter.

 

My favorite are the people who say that roller coasters aren't safe. Trust me, a park wouldn't open a ride if it wasn't safe and you have more of a chance getting killed on a golf cart than on an amusement park ride.

Basically, the following sums up GP logic:

 

"No loops = horrible, Loops = OMG! ORGASMIC EXPERIENCE!"

 

A lot of GP on Busch Garden's facebook page (and I think maybe a guy who calls himself a "true" enthusiast) have complained that Cheetah Hunt has only one inversion/loop/twisty-upsidedowny-thingy.

I have many, but these are two of my best:

 

1. Cedar Point, Top Thrill Dragster: "That must be at least, like.....100 feet tall."

2. SFMM, X2: guy - "Where did X go?" girlfriend - "they're the same thing" guy - "NO, LOOK, the sign says x2 NOT X, WHERE IS X???" girlfriend - "they just changed it" guy - "but I remember it was pink, thats red" girlfriend - "...."

Back in 1995 when T2 first opened, I thought that one actually HANGED from the coaster! If you let go, you would fall! I was scared to ride the coaster for YEARS until 1997 or 1998 when I actually walked up to the coaster and seen that it had a seat!

 

The one thing that annoyed me also goes back to T2 and a group of people from Nashville swore up and down that T2 was Hangman. I tried to explain that T2 came first and that Hangman was now Kong out in California but they got super pissed! This has happened more than once.

 

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom's maintenance department does not help the problem.

GP in line for Greezed Lightnin': "Is this ride going to get stuck like Vampire?!"

Maintenance: "I don't know! I'm not God! Anything can happen! Chang might go flying off it's track for all I know!!!"

 

I've also heard that Space Mountain was the fastest coaster on the planet!

 

Finally I remember some kid in a video about Diamondback saying it went "like 267 MPH" or something around those lines.

While waiting in line for Sidewinder at EG:

*A mother and her kid, maybe 8-9 are waiting in line, behind them are 2 girls, probably 12ish*

Mother (Pointing at the SBNO Flying Coaster): I wonder why that ride never runs...

Girl 1: The ride got stuck in one of the twists and someone fell out!

Girl 2: It's true...

Mother: Hmm. I could see how that could happen.

 

I wanted to say something, but I never say anything when the GP acts like morons.

I do teach my friends all about coasters when we go, and I've managed to turn them semi-knowledgeable about coasters.

My one friend told me that his sister said that the Sidewinder got stuck on the loop and the restraints opened and everyone fell out. He asked me if it happened. I said "No". He knows how much I know about coasters, so he takes anything I say about them as fact.

That reminds me of a time that my friend tried to convince me that someone's restraint next to him came undone on Riddler's Revenge and he held her in with one arm the entire ride. I believed him. I was 10.

I'm not sure what you want to classify this as...but a couple weeks ago at CGA, my cousin and I were riding White Water Falls (Intamin Chute ride). The line was somewhat hefty that day and there were 2 people ahead of us. They both climb in, sitting in the 2 middle seats. My cousin and I also head in as there was a line behind us. Unwillingly, the 2 people ahead move over so we can get seated. Next thing I know, the one sitting on the outside begins complaining "I'm going to be 1 nasty b**ch if I get wet on this ride, I mean it...I better not get wet!" Well, why go on a ride called "White Water Falls" to begin with if you don't want to get wet? I just don't get it.

 

Another rant, in regards to Haunt: to all the parents out there: Please don't take your kids there if you know they will be frightened. I swear, I saw this little kid traumatized inside the Toy Factory. She was probably 8 or so, was covering her eyes as she was guided through by her parents. On the topic of this, my brother's friends had taken their younger set to Haunt as well, and as one of the characters continued to scare the kid, the mother went off on the monsters, yelling at them to stop and whatnot. The way I see it is that you should not bring your younger kids here, especially if you do not want them to get frightened. There is nothing at the park for them except maybe a couple of the family rides. The kids area is closed! Unfortunately my brother didn't see it the way I do.

 

Lastly, I've never seen the GP in so much shock when the transfer track section had to be used. They stood there with their "WTF" faces on as the train went in reverse out of the station and onto the transfer section prior to sliding over. I had a couple ask me what they were doing so I kindly informed them that they're taking a train off the track due to rain and how the transfer mechanism worked....they were pretty impressed.

I heard this while waiting in line for Bizarro at SFGAdv- "Medusa used to be here. I think they got rid of it because some kid snapped his neck on it"

 

Also, to those people who are saying that its stupid to not like a coaster because it doesn't have inversions, you have to remember that people have opinions. Opinions =/= Stupid.

I was at HAUNT at KD and a mom was carrying a girl, who was obviously very frightened. They were in the Feary Tales section when a Dead Alice from "Alice in Wonderland" popped up and started following them. It was a really good scare, but the mom than elbowed and hit the "Alice" character before screaming at her.

 

It just irks me so much. If you know you have a child who does not deal with the whole HAUNT experience well, why the hell would you take them there? And than blame the scare actors. It just makes me boil.

I was wondering why there were so many children at Scarowinds when I went. I was looking forwards to going to an amusement park without tons of children. Unfortunately there were still tons of children.

I can top that. I was at HHN and this woman was walking through the La Llorona scarezone with a double stroller (both filled with small children), waving one of those rip off lightsabers saying "get out of the way, stroller with kids!" and got really pissed when scareactors would come up. On the other hand, I saw a girl that was no older than 10 take the terror tram like a champ. She didn't get scared at all

^That's what I found out about kids when I operated the Skycoaster at SFGAm this year. Either they have no idea what's going on and are therefore completely fearless... or they are terrified out of their minds.

 

Probably my favorite story of the year: I'm flight crew at the Skycoaster. Up comes this triple: two HUGE, southern-accented adults (presumably a couple) and a tiny, barely up to the height requirement little girl. She was terrified. (So much in fact that they decided for her not to fly. Good decision.) But to try and console her, the father kept saying (in the thickest southern accent you can imaging), "Look honey, they got cables! They got cables!" As if that would be consoling. Good thing they weren't Intamin cables.

 

Also, when this couple did fly, they screamed more than most kids... the whole way through.

^I've never understood how 6 year olds ride Skycoasters. I was a brave little kid, but there's no way in hell I would have gotten on one of those when I was 6.

I work at the Haunted Mines in Colorado Springs, and I can tell you that the GP can be pretty dumb. I've had several attempts from people to punch me after a scare (I just block the punch and get security to escort them out), several parents taking 5 year olds through who were obviously being traumatized (I even offered to let the child out with a parent/sibling, and they refused), and a woman who twisted her ankle after falling through netting after jumping two guard rails (we have recorded messages at the beginning that explicitly say "Don't leave the path").

 

If you plan on visiting a haunt this weekend, don't mess with the actors. We've spent the whole month dealing with these kinds of people.

I totally agree about the haunted things with small children. I saw a kid that looked to be about 6 come out of Club Blood at Dorney's Haunt screaming and crying to no end...On the contrary, I saw a girl that looked even younger go into another haunt and come out completely fine...Some people are rediculous.

^That's my point. Parents just need to use good judgment when doing things like that. Know your child(ren)'s limit of fear before doing something frightening.

Back in probably 2001 or so, we were checking out Fright Fest at SFDK. It was actually a typical family day at the park and we saw that we had free passes for the haunts they had there as we were pass holders. Prior to getting our wristbands we asked my brother who may have been 7 at the time if he wants to go through the haunted mazes. Being his age, he had some fear but he decided he would give it a go. Sure enough, he handled it with no problem, if I recall, he may have been laughing at my cousin who is much older get frightened...the same cousin that goes with me to CGA's Haunt. My brother had an understanding that it is just people in costumes acting things out.

The only thing that irks me is when the GP says rumors that they probably make up on the spot like the honest-to-goodness truth. Like for example:

 

"They had to change Medusa to Bizzaro because a girl fell out of her seat when her seatbelt came undone. With the new name now they can't sue. And that's why one seat has two seatbelts now."

 

Ugh. And dealing with people who have no hard evidence that someone died on Kingda Ka other than a friend's rumor, and calling YOU the liar. I don't take it seriously, but still.

 

Oh, and at the one part where the track goes over Bizzaro at SFNE que, this one girl said "Why are there just a canvas covering us? That couldn't stop a car when it falls off."

I like watching the GP make asses of themselves...but my biggest peeve is the whole not getting the coaster name right when you're standing next to the sign. Living in Canada, and before I go on, I really feel violated saying this, most people know we're bilingual...hehehehe, we speak both ways. Anyways, parks should have their sign for the coaster, and for these illiterate morons who can't read and write English...we'll have it in text too.

If they're at the Point, and they're looking for Corkscrew, or that blue spirally coaster, you could have 'crkscrw...' Voila! They can now find the coaster they're looking for. lol! I could do a list, but I don't write in text, even when I am texting.
