The track is much different. The restraints on the Flying Dutchman is much, well, for lack of a better term, cheaper looking. On the Vekoma you lie down going up the lift hill whereas on the B&M flyer you are put into the flying position in the station and are in the flying position all the way up the lift. So far I think the Vekoma versions are much more elaborate in terms of the layout, but hopefully Tatsu will really blow things out of the water and have those 5-7 inversions and extra turns. The B&M's are also kind of smoother, but that is really not a surprise.

That is basically all I can think of now and I'm sure someone else will give a better explanation. I guess that is just a basic overview.

I felt that the Flying Dutchman (Batwing) was way better than Superman: Ultimate Flight. IMO, the position that the Vekoma trains put you in, resembles more of a flying position than the S:UF trains do. The S:UF trains cover your forwards line of sight much more than Vekomas and force you to stare at the ground. In addition, they leave in much more of a horizontal seated position, instead of Vekomas allowing your knees to drop a bit farther "down" to place into a more prone position. As for the ride layouts, I love the double twists, loop and horseshoes on Batwing more than the pretzel loop and lame roll on S:UF. So yes, I am saying it, Vekoma has a better flying coaster than B&M.

Vekoma Flying Dutchman: You are in a a flat position (similar to a stand-up coaster) with the car to your back, interesting layouts, smooth

B&M Flyer: More of a sitting position, but facing the ground. You are lifted up into position. So far layouts have been rather forceless.

Zamperla Volare: Single car trains. You are actually lying on your stomach on a hard fiberglass piece, and there are bars in front of your face. You are lifted up into position. The lift is a spiral piece of track with a rotating paddle in the middle which catches the edge of your car and screws it upwards. Interesting layout, but rough as hell. It's like being inside an egg beater.

I have only ridden Stealth (Now Borg) when I was in California in 2001.

The vertical loop, corkscrews and horseshoe are great elements taken with high speed and g-forces.

Also i liked the layout of the coaster very much. Especially the part that was called the head-chopper.

Superman Ultimate Flight at SFGADV(B&M) is fairly smooth except for for the inverted dive in the pretzel loop which is pretty uncomfortable. Unless you are in the first car you spend most of your time looking at the ground or at the bottom of the shoes of the riders in front of you wiggling back and forth. An interesting experience, but not a great ride. Dispatches are slow; I'm not sure if the Vekoma's are any faster.

I found the B&M's to have much more tight restraints. Meaning your back is held much tighter agains the car.

Where as Vekoma's you kind of sag down off the back of the car. So you're basically hanging in the harness. Makes it feel like you're about to fall out at any minute. Probably a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.

I know some people who despised the Vekoma just because of the feeling of the restraints.

Personally I hate the Beemer FLyer restraints.

They hurt your legs terribly if you have to stay in them for any length of time.

I have never had this problem on any of the Dutchman as you can at least relax on your back if there is a delay.

Aside from the Prtzel loop, I really like the Dutchman better even if the Pretzel is a bit too intense for my likes, although I do always ride in the back to get my soul sucked out of me.

Man Stealth was smooth as glass. Smoother than either B&M in the park, just as smooth as Medusa up there in Valejo. Great ride too, not all that thrilling or intense, but very fun. I think that I would prefer to go up the lift hill on my back, that way the flip over to your flying position is scarier. You just calmly go up the lift, not expecting anything. You have no idea where you're going until you fly over the top of the lift and then flip over into your flying position.

I have to say I prefer the Vekoma's to the B&Ms, even though I've only ridden one. Just a pretzel loop and 4 turns doesn't do much for me. I think I'd like AIR more than Superman.

Hmm, odd replies in here, I guess I'll put my $0.02 in:

I have ridden Air, Batwing and X-flight.

I found the station and lift hill position on the Vekoma's uncomfortable, with the blood pounding in my head. The restraints are interesting (rather like a race harness IMO) and not uncomfortable, but I just didn't find the track as smooth as others are saying. I especially didn't like when I ended up stacked on the pre-station brake for about two minutes at 6FA.

Air isn't particularly an intense layout, but there are G's to be experienced. It's more of a terrain coaster, as Alton Towers can't build above tree height. I like the position better, and I like the restraints here too. I don't know if they are exactly the same as found on the S:UF coasters, though. Most of all, I prefer to be in the "flying" position as opposed to on my back, which is my #1 reason why I prefer the B&M. Air is also as smooth as you'd expect from any other B&M.

I really hope that Tatsu combines some of the elements of Air (terrain) and the Flying Dutchmen (inversions), just without lying on it's back.

One of the coolest things about Air, IMO, is the T-shirts that say:

Assume the Position!

I haven't been on any B&M flyers, but I'll be on S:UF @ SFGav next year. SFA is my home park, so Batwing is a home coaster! I love it, it rocks, it just needs a shorter path to get to it!!! It really is smooth, I don't know what anyone saying they're rough is talking about!

Also, the forces on Batwing (Vekoma) are strong. The loop is amazing, the double barell roll just plain rocks, and the horshoe and the helix are just awesome!!! Can't wait to go back for FF!!!!!
