They are not uncomfortable at all (they hardly touch you), but that is kinda the point... they hardly touch you. I would almost rather have them against my body/shoulders to avoid contact with my face. But they sit in such an awkward place, away from the body, that they feel so unnecessary and silly. That makes sense to me. I didn’t notice them sitting near my face on the Big Apple Coaster, but I suppose that I could just be taller. I did notice that they were a bit awkward to get into/out of, though.
tndank
I rode with comfort collars for the first time a couple weeks ago. At 6'1" they didn't bother me. Seemed pointless to have them there but no problems. I can imagine shorter people would be annoyed by them.

Do you find them uncomfortable, or do you just dislike that it increases the time it takes to dispatch the train? I dislike them mostly because of where they rest in proximity to my neck. A few sharp turns or maneuvers and my neck jams into them, which isn’t particularly fun. I think my bigger issue is that coasters with more numerous and/or intense maneuvers have managed to have Premier deliver them without any restraint other than a lap bar. VegasGuy89109
Was able to ride earlier today. Those trains are definitely a tight fit to get into the third rows of each car and for the most part you don't even notice or feel the comfort collars. EXCEPT that funky track profiling and transition into the third drop definitely bashes your neck/face into the comfort collar so beware of that part. The way the trains are designed with an individual seat for each rider and a lap bar that I feel covers all bases on the safety side - I'm not really sure why on earth they decided to have comfort collars. The lap bar holds you in just fine and the comfort collars just add time to the loading/unloading process. Maybe they can come off at some point? Anyway, it's definitely not the best ride out there, but is at least more enjoyable and re-ridable now.
Jew
The shinpads on premier trains are designed for inversions, so the comfort collars are pointless.
thrillseeker4552
Yeah, it is common knowledge that the comfort collars do not contribute to the restraint system in the sense that you are "safer" with them. They only exist "for your comfort." SeaWorld explicitly stated this on a sign in Electric Eel's queue. It's actually kind of hilarious!
tndank
I liked seeing pics of the old train in the hotel parking lot with the screwed up lift hill piece laying next to it.
jarmor
I hope I can fit on it with this pandemic weight I have gained! I vaguely remember riding it back in 2015 but I do remember it wasn't that pleasant.
VegasGuy89109
Also, just some fun random info. This time around they purchased 4 trains. The previous two train models had 5 trains.
thrillseeker4552
I had the opportunity to ride the “new” Big Apple Coaster this afternoon. I lucked out and got front row. My previous ride was in December 2018 (and I thought it was terrible). I am happy to say that the new trains have VASTLY improved the coaster. I was actually able to enjoy the coaster and take in the views. The two inversions are still the roughest parts, but they really aren’t that bad anymore. The comfort collars were not an issue, to my surprise, since I found them quite annoying on West Coast Racers and other Premier coasters. Any shuffling on the ride was just my shoulders hitting the sides of the seat rather than my neck on the comfort collars. I forgot they were there. The improvements to the coaster won’t make it top anyone’s list of favorites, but it went from “flaming pile of garbage” to “actually decent and enjoyable for what it is.” It also looks very nice with it’s fresh paint job. Props to the NYNY Hotel and Premier for a job well done on actually making the coaster enjoyable now!
CoasterKid93
Thank you, Premier. Your new trains turned The Migraine Machine 5000 into an absolute blast. There are even a few pops of air in the back car! It's still a little rough in a few places (ESPECIALLY the drop before the loop), but The Big Apple Coaster is definitely worth a ride. I can go next door to Shake Shack and get myself a large combo, plus a large concrete or milkshake, and still have a couple bucks leftover for the slot machines. I'd much rather do that than ride a geriatric coaster that crawls through most of the layout.
tndank
You could put a couple hours into the MyVegas game and ride for free. Great views on this thing at night.

ryder
According to Vital Vegas, Buffalo Bill's will be soft opening Dec 23 with renovated flooring, rooms, and games. Most food opening within a month, and official grand reopening mid-January. However, no word on rides. I figured this place for dead... crazy they're bringing it back. Hopefully they do enough business that they can get the rides back open. I drive by Desperado all the time and would love to get a chance to ride it again. jarmor
Well it turned out to be true. Universal is opening a year round haunt which will be located on the expansion of Area15 called the district.
SoCalJasonland
End of an era and Pappa Giorggio of Vegas Vacation would be sad but Mirage volcano and lagoon are gone. Zand
The whole idea that they closed perhaps the 2nd most famous (and still very busy) casino in Vegas (only behind Caesars IMO) to replace it with a generic Hard Rock is sad to me. Treasure Island is right next door, a shell of its former self and usually a ghost town. Why not tear that one apart instead? The Trop closing was sad enough although that place was pretty dead and kind of a dump. But the freaking Mirage. I'll never understand the logic. bert425
^ I'd say Golden Nugget and Plaza are more recognizable than Mirage was.

Given that Phil Ruffn owns Treasure Island and Circus Circus, and the shape each are in; I don't see a lot of hope for improvement. Tropicana went down for a good cause to give the Oakland A's a new home to lose in. If they think Oakland doesn't show up for their games, wait until they try to sell out games with the A's record and the summer heat in Vegas, but no take backs. Mirage was still in good shape and selling rooms at a high price. They along with Excalibur; New York, New York; and Tropicana, are part of a pattern of hotels losing water features/fountains out front. I hope Bellagio, Cesars, Wynn, and Venetian keep theirs. The new Colorado River agreement calls for deep water use cuts.

I was hoping for AC and I guess per my Google seach they have it despite the end of the stadium appearing to be open. The Raiders still have rabid black and white Los Angeles and Nor Cal fans to come out to subsidize absent LV fans despite their record. I am not sure how the A's will fill seats when they are a lot better than the Chicago White Sox and slightly better than the Angles in the American League but no one else. A 43% winning record? If the could remodel the El Cortez and Plaza to look nice, the perhaps could have fixed up the Trop. I am not sure who pays a couple hundred plus a night to stay on the strip and watch a baseball game. This should have gone in a cheaper hotel area, but I guess you can get rooms at Excalibur and Luxor for a reasonable price sometimes. https://www.mlb.com/news/a-s-unveil-renderings-for-ballpark-in-las-vegas
