Only enthusiasts want to know what happened, and we'll likely never know for sure and rumors will swirl forever. Either the Premier train had an issue navigating the course causing that much stress on the wheel assembly (doubtful but not impossible) or the wheel assembly in question was not installed correctly causing its complete failure. If by "all over the internet" you mean one single non-coaster-fan-page news article in the first two pages of Google results for "big apple coaster derailment," on a website that doesn't even have enough traffic to register on any of the major website traffic tracking systems, sure, it's "all over the internet." Seriously man, think before you post. I think that people that are going to possibly ride that coaster in the future would like to know what happened and will the coaster be safe to ride when it reopens. Being honest about a major derailment or lift failure, or whatever happened would not be a black eye on the hotel or the city as a whole. Hiding what happened is a problem though. I can bet you that 95% of the guests that ride this coaster will have no idea that the trains were replaced (unless there’s any kind of advertisement in the station or queue), that the testing resulted in damage to the track or that anything had to be fixed. Those kind of stories don’t make the national news via any medium. And as far as theme park incidents go, this is about as minor as they come. If it were Universal, Disney, SeaWorld, Six Flags or even Knott's, this might have gotten more coverage, but this is a casino that just happens to have a coaster that just happened to have a mishap during testing. There weren’t riders affected and no one was in danger, so it wouldn’t draw the standard attention that ride maintenance issues like these can sometimes pull with the bigger parks/chains. And for these reasons, few will actually question or need some kind of formal acknowledgement of safety corrections that would make more guests want to ride. If the incident didn’t get negative publicity when it happened, there is no upside to drudging up a bad thing to have more visibility in an effort to say it is safe now. Your theory postulates that the general public, outside of coaster forums, will even know that something happened. As indicated by the near-complete lack of press that the incident received (not even Vegas' two major local news outlets, the Review-Journal or the Sun, picked it up), there is no reason to believe that they will. They're not intentionally hiding anything; I'm sure if a member of the press reached out for a comment, they would provide one. PR 101 is that you don't create press attention for negative things if they're not paying attention. The coaster-enthusiast community, however, knows better than to spend $20 to ride a shitty Togo no matter what, so in the end virtually no one will be affected. Except you, apparently. Plenty of people here, on a theme park-related forum know that the trains had been replaced previously.
