Weight Management Support/Enouragement thread

Hey everyone! Monthly update time.

November was a step in the right direction for me. The first half of the month was not good, I kept eating bad. The second half I snapped out of it and cut the fast food. From the first day of the month to the last day of the month I was about the same weight, but I ended the month about 7 pounds lighter than the heaviest weight I recorded in the month, so I am proud of that!

Exercise went really well. I closed all my rings each day and I currently have a 249 day streak, I averaged 11,088 steps, 79 minutes and 1,199 cals. The beginning of December meant I was finally cleared from my broken wrist after 14 weeks. In the first 26 hours I was fully cleared I exercised for 292 minutes and burned 5,259 active calories. I set my record for most active calories burned in a single day since I got my watch last spring with 3,693 cals!

Has anyone heard of Marcus Leshock? He is a news anchor/reporter on Chicago's WGN 9 news. More relatable to us, he is a roller coaster enthusiast! He gets to talk about it on the news. Anyways, him and his wife put out a "100 Day Challenge", and I would recommend looking into joining them. Why wait until the New Year to change? There is no better time than the present! I am finalizing my goals, and I will be starting within the week. A quick google search "Marcus Leshock 100 day challenge" will take you to his website where he has more information on it!

I broke my ankle a couple days after Halloween, so November up to now has just been full of doctor's visits and a surgery and recovery. Unfortunately, as a result, the few pounds I'd recently lost came back, but I'm slowly going downwards again. I blame myself for the weight spike; I got so mad at myself for breaking my ankle that I comforted myself with pizza and M&Ms.

So, no major exercising at the moment; just wobbling to and from the bathroom mostly. My next ortho appt is Dec 14; they won't even get PT set up for me until Jan/Feb (I live in the middle of nowhere, so the closest PT doesn't take Medicaid, and the next closest is in the next county over and booked pretty solid).

Happy New Year everyone!

December was alright for me. Weight didn't change, 245.2lbs today, which is fine considering I enjoyed myself for the holidays. Still closed all my rings each day! Per day in December I averaged 1,187 active calories, 65 exercise mins and 10,011 steps.

I'm super excited to give it my all this year, especially the first 3 months. Hopefully I hold true to that!

Mid month update in the hopes of holding myself accountable.

Exercise is going fantastic so far this year. I'm averaging 12,535 steps, 99 mins, and 1,504 active calories a day. My move streak is still intact, currently at 295 days.

The problem is eating. I've been on the "I'll start eating better tomorrow, I'll enjoy today" mindset all year so far. Despite my exercise, this mindset has ballooned my weight. This morning I weighed in at 254.8 pounds. Yikes.

I'm a Type One diabetic and I saw my endocrinologist Tuesday. She was slightly disappointed that my A1C (your sugar average last 3 months) increased. I knew this was going to happen because I've been eating awful and I've seen my averages go up, its not like I was shocked. I was disappointed I let her down. I'm less confident in myself where I am at now that I was when I was around 220 pounds. And at 255 pounds, I'm starting to borderline getting walked of shamed again. Jeans are tighter, belt is bigger.

This was the slap in the face I needed to get back on the right track. I know I can do it once I'm determined and motivated. I didn't magically lose 100 pounds. When the seasonal parks near me open in the spring, I do not want to be thinking about how tight restraints will be. I want to feel more free.

I decided since yesterday was my birthday that I would still enjoy myself Tuesday and yesterday eating cake and whatnot, and that Thursday (today) I would start eating better. Scrap all my old goals, here are my new ones. And they are final.

  1. Close all my rings daily (which I am changing from 800 to 1,000 active calories and from 45 to 60 mins)
  2. Weigh 215 pounds by 5/24 (my next endo appointment)
  3. Have an A1C below 6.0 (will be taken 5/24)

I'm confident I can do this, and of course I will update. The weight goal will be a push. When I lost 100, it was about a 2lb/week clip. This would be about 2.25/week, so similar but still an increase. I have a weekend trip planed to SDC & SFStL early April. If I keep that pace, I'll be around 230 lbs by then, which I was at this summer and had no problems at any parks.

so certainly not back where I was . . (and the pictures on the side here make me sad to see). . . BUT. .getting a ticket for Coasterstock did help me get back on track.

still struggling with portion size, but was able to cut out fast food, and I've been doing a 40 minute walk almost every day.

I started back on 2/28 at 214 lbs.
today, 3/10 I'm at 208.4

so down ~5.6 lbs in 11 days.

a good start, just need to keep it up!

so today on 4/2. . a little over a month since started back exercising, I weighed in at:  201.2
(so tantalizingly close to my goal I had set to hit 200 - down 14 lbs in a month).

in total down ~13lbs in the past month.

of course, I then went out and had Sushi for lunch. .but at least I stopped eating when I was full, and took a good portion of it home for tomorrow.

:)

trying not to get discouraged. . as the weight comes off SO much slower than it goes on.

which is SO damn unfair.

as of this morning, I came in at 196.4

so down in total ~18lbs. . . which is annoying because two weeks ago, I was 197.6.   So really?  only 1lb in two weeks.

I know, I know. . it's still a loss, and it's NOT a gain, I should be happy.   But c'mon. . ONE pound?

sheesh.

I was at my first con since Feb 2020 this weekend, soooo.... yeah, definitely not weighing this week. I actually had breakfast 3 mornings in a row (I don't normally eat breakfast), and we had Imo's Pizza, Five Guys, and a couple trips to Gingham's (basically a more local Denny's with better food). I do not want to know what I weigh right now, LOL.

I'm TOTALLY joining this thread!  Brief background:   Before 2019, the last time I had been in a coaster was in 2002.  I then got married, had kids, and never went again until the kids were old enough.  They decided in 2019 they wanted to go.  We went to Cedar Point.  I gained weight since 2002 with marriage and 2 babies under my belt.  I knew I'd have some issues with many coasters, but never would've imagined I would with the old-school Gemini, Mine Ride, Blue Streak systems.  After all, they are  one large bench seat with one large lap belt for 2 riders!  BZZT.  Wrong.  This MF'ers overhauled all of those and made those into individual seats resulting into even LESS space in those cars!  I did the walk of shame.  I lived for these things through childhood and my 20s.  I was crushed, HOWEVER, it turned out to be the STRONGEST MOTIVATOR yet for me.  And I did it.  I dumped all pop (Coke, soda, whatever you call it!), 5 gone the first week.  I started counting calories.  I used a 1000 calorie deficit.  I did not snack between meals at ALL.  2.5 months later, 20 gone (I didn't have a scale in the house to jump on throughout).   4 months into it, I added cardio/dance at LEAST 5 days a week (basic details here because I have medical issues that seemed to vanish, too...and that's another story).  6 months later (all from that dreadful day at CP), almost 50 gone.  Covid happened (of course) and that took care of testing my weight loss out for 2020 (bad luck).  I hit a plateau after almost 60 down.  In January 2021, we went keto.     By April 2021, I lost close to 80.   We hit Busch Gardens and i was so worked up (I had never been there before) the day before.  Our hotel room overlooked the park and the fear and anticipation was killing me so much that I made my husband take me to the ticket booths (we were going the next day) so I could maybe beg them to escort me to a test seat.  LOL I, literally, did.  They wouldn't do that (non-ticket guest can be a big liability), but all 4 of the girls on this small area/booth/office told me I would COMPLETELY be able to ride them all.  Next morning, my heart was pounding...I wanted to vomit...and I saw Cheetah Hunt test seat.    O M G.  I plopped my butt in there and it buckled!!!!!  It FIT!  In fact, I was so stoked just for that...I didn't want to get out of the test seat!!! LOL. I fit ALL of them.  ALLLLLL OF THEM.   I stopped keto last august because I was burnt out on it and I needed a break.  Even though I never ate crazily after it, I shot up 10lbs.  Carbs instantly bind with water (thus, carboHYDRATES) and VOILA.  Early this past March, I jumped back on keto and I CANNOT get this 10 pounds off.  GRRR.  I'm in a panic because our CP trip is in August and I'm still really unsure about the restraints there.  I haven't been there since my big weight loss and I simply CANNOT EVEN experience another walk of shame.  I suspect my auto-immune issue doesn't want to give up the water portion (Sjogren's is one issue causing dehydration)....so, I'm freaking out.   I would love if anyone wants to buddy up and get this done!!!!

It's nice to have you Carrie, congrats on your weight loss! I'm in a similar boat - lost a bunch of weight and it was great riding everything again, but put some weight back on and currently struggling to shave it off. Went to SFGAm and Indiana Beach this weekend and BARELY squeezed on X-Flight (needed help from op), Raging Bull and Batman were one click etc. Was able to ride everything but I'm right on the verge of a walk of shame. I just am eating awful

Great America is open already??  I think Cedar Point opens this weekend.  I want to go, but from what I understand, opening weekends are evil and crowded....as is the rest of the first month.  WAYYY back when (I am aging myself here), May was the time to go.  On and off quickly.  Batman was an awesome ride at GA!  Of course, I haven't been there since 96 (age revealing...), though.  I remember when Tidal Wave was there, too.  That was pretty fun!

STOP EATING EVIL FOOD!! LOL  It's hard...I know.  My saving grace is keto (though, it is slow moving for me).  Have you tried keto?  It's not that bad nor that hard, really.  AND...there is some GREAT "evil" keto foods out there.  You can eat at most fast food places if you ditch the bun.  In fact, you can order a triple at Wendy's!  You COMPLETELY can!  Just ditch the ketchup, mayo (sugar in most restaurant mayos), and the bun!  Can't eat that AT ALL counting calories :)  No sugar added Coke is awesome.   No sugar Hershey's is great, too. Can't tell the difference and the sugar alcohols lower the carbs significantly.  Most people who go on keto for the first time drop weight significantly in the first week.  You just don't eat as much naturally because you get full easily.  I think I am going to have to add cardio, though....my body does NOT want to let go of any fluids at ALL.

so I TOTALLY get that it's because I haven't had any water today, and just finished an hour + workout. . .but I'll still take it.

exactly 20lbs down. . that's with two rough weeks (after my Birthday, and being out of town. . eating bad the whole time).    so I actually lost about 1 1/2 lbs (since I was stuck at ~18 lb loss), even tho I was off plan, although I DID keep exercising every day.

so not exactly the 25 I was hoping to lose before Coasterstock, but as of a moment ago, I'm 194.2   (down from start of 214).

I'm setting a goal to lose 20 pounds in June. I am ready to commit to the hefty goal!

you can do it!

meanwhile, I twisted my ankle really badly in early May (probably the day after I posted the above update), and haven't been able to exercise at ALL. . . and started eating bad again during.

so been avoiding the scale, but think i've put back on at LEAST 8-10 lbs of the 20 I lost :(

but determined to get back on track. .I have just over 2 weeks before a big trip and going to be really serious about trying to drop at least 5 lbs in that time.

I'm hopping back into this thread. So a buddy of mine invited me on a trip to Germany in September! I can't believe it's only 2 months away.... but that also means I need to lose some weight as I'd imagine the rides over there are a bit more restrictive than in the USA. So I want to lose as much weight as I can, but it has been so difficult as I have been eating and snacking even when I'm not hungry. I'm going to whip out the dance dance revolution starting tomorrow to get a little exercise in but I really need to limit my eating. I did Carowinds and Kings Dominion recently and was barely able to fit in everything, but I did need to use modified seating on Afterburn. The others were close calls.

Wish me luck 😕 I can't think of anything more disappointing than traveling all that way and not being able to go on a long list of bucket list rides. You would think that would be motivation enough....

not a diet I'd recommend at all. . but I've dropped a lot of weight.

yesterday morning, I weighed in at 183.6 lbs.  (down from a start weight of 214 earlier this year)

So super close to my goal weight.
