The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!

Recommended Posts

Hi Chase. I was about half way through ranking my list yesterday when I saved my progress and left to do something else. When I came back, I got this Error 500 screen (btw, I love the error graphic, makes me laugh every time), and I continue to get this screen on different devices and browsers. This only shows on my rankings, all other webpages, including adding coasters, still function for me.

While I'm here, for future coaster additions, I'd recommend Mindbender at Galaxyland to add to the list.

Thanks everyone involved with the coaster poll. It looks really promising, and I can't wait to see the final product. Keep up the great work!

Wow, you really broke it. I’ll have to take a look later this evening to see what I can find. Unfortunately I don’t have a good solution for you at the moment.

As for Maurer spinners, I could see "special" versions such as Winjas, Crush's Coaster Laff Trakk and Dragon's Fury being potentially ranked. Is there enough interest for the "off-shelf" SC2000s like Whirlwind, Steel Dragon and Undertow?

I don't want this poll to just be a carbon copy of the Mitch poll. To be honest, I always thought it was a little stupid all those mediocre similar rides were included in his poll to begin with and I think I didn't even bother voting for "My Favorite Boomerang" or whatever it was, because IMO it was sort of dumb.

I'll ask Chase what he wants to do. I'm honestly fine with either decision, but would lean towards not including them or only including ones that are significantly different if that was an option.

Again, remember, I'd prefer this poll to be a bit more focused on what really are the best coasters and not being an overall list of "all credits."

Winja's and Dragon's Fury were Top 20 steel coasters for me when they were in Mitch's poll, at least 50 spots higher than standard Maurer spinners. I still can't believe no other park asked for that big horseshoe at the beginning of the ride that Dragon's Fury has.

Update!

https://coasterpoll.com/

After hours of data entry, we now should have most major coasters from the United States, Canada, and Mexico on the poll! Hooray!

The list currently includes all roller coasters that are the size of a wild mouse or greater. This means that no Dragon Wagons, no [insert manufacturer here] kids' coasters, no small Tivolis, no Wacky Worms, no small Miler coasters, and no Vekoma roller skaters. Exceptions to this rule are made, of course, such as including some small classic wooden coasters like the Waldameer Comet and Little Amerricka's Meteor.

If you all could do me a favor - for now, give us "missing coasters" feedback with respect to North America (USA, CAN, MEX) specifically. It will help us fill in the gaps. I'll continue to check in on the thread for this information, so please help us out!

I will be gradually starting to fill in parks and coasters in Europe, Australia, and Asia over the coming days and weeks. Chances are your favorite coaster will eventually get on the poll. It's just going to take some time!

I would also advise everyone to check their rankings. There was a bit of a snafu on my part and a lot of coaster "clones", such as SLCs, Boomerangs, and the like, were deleted and re-entered. Now that we have a bit of a guideline set up that shouldn't happen moving forward.

Thanks for understanding!

Jaguar is missing from Knott’s Berry Farm. Not that it would be highly ranked, but Coast Rider and Pony Express are included, so.... just thought I’d bring that up.

Other than that, I can’t find any missing coasters, at least that I’ve ridden. The save is now working for me, so I’ll finally start ranking my coasters! Awesome.

It's pretty cool so far, but just so you guys know Desperado at Buffalo Bill's isn't listed

Oh no! We'll never be able to figure out what the best coaster in the world is if we can't add the second worst coaster in f*cking Nevada.

Don't worry, I've got you covered.

Just added Adventureland NY, Bowcraft, Buffalo Bill's Resort, Canobie Lake, Casino Pier, Castaway Cove, Clementon, Cliff's Amusement Park, Columbus Zoo, Great Escape, Luna Park / Scream Zone, New York New York Resort, Martin's Fantasy Island, Rye Playland, Six Flags St. Louis, Seabreeze, Story Land, and Strickler's Grove.

Just wanted to let you know, it's Stricker's Grove.

Thanks for all the new additions! I still can't get drag and drop to work using Chrome, but I'll try again with Safari.

Thank you guys for all the hard work! I'm sure this is a PITA right now, but I think this will be great once all the bugs are worked out!

Sorry for double post, but on Safari I am experiencing two frustrations.

First, whenever I go down and select an unranked coaster to move it up, the screen does not scroll up on its own while I am holding that coaster, so I have to frequently "put it down" to scroll up and move it piece by piece to where I want it.

Also, for some reason it automatically labels it a "1" even if I place it further down. Here's a pic. 99680597_ScreenShot2018-01-14at10_05_21PM.thumb.png.31c100f976ba605e73770ac6d887b7ac.png

I can then go type in whatever number I want, but it does not change the order for me without manually moving it again.

Again, thank you guys for all the hard work!

Scrolling up (or really a lack thereof) is something I need to work on more. And figure out why everything always becomes a 1 if dragged a second time. In the meantime, however, a workaround is to renumber everything how you want it, save (make sure it actually pops up saying it saved), then refresh the page. They'll all be in the correct order when you reload. I found it was more difficult to use if it automatically reordered when you typed in a number.

Look very good! One thing I'd love to see added is a button to put a coaster in the ranking list directly instead of having to drag it to the ranking are (or multiselect them and put them in the ranking.

About the amount of coasters in the poll, I think you did the right thing by putting every coaster bigger than a wild mouse in there. I do however also think that rides like SLC's, Boomerangs or anything that has 5 or more of the same could be grouped as 'Best ridden ********". Most of these rides don't differ to much and most of them are also not of the best quality (the best SLC imo is just rideable). Though I can see why you put them all in individually. If you need any help with input of parks let me know, I'd love to help out where I can.

Gave up the other day and figured I'd let you guys work out the kinks but decided to give it a shot another last night. Ranked a bunch, made sure it was saved. Refreshed, everything looked good. Logged out.

Logged back in to work on ranking some more just now and immediately noticed the ranking I did last night is all out of order again, with each coaster assigned random numbers for some reason. Just an FYI.

Still on firefox here.

I couldn't see Everland on there for T Express. Rolling X Train will never (and really shouldn't) crack anyone's top ten but I think T Express is quite a popular wooden coaster for the ones who've ridden it. I haven't ridden that many wooden ones since I've stuck to mostly UK parks and Asian parks but it's definitely in my top 3.

Hmm. Random numbers? Was it sorting them based on the random numbers or how you set it before?

Unfortunately I still can't get my rankings to save. When I click save, the wheel continuously spins and never completes the action. I even left and came back 10 minutes later and it was still spinning. This problem has occurred for me in both Chrome and Internet Explorer.

At first I thought it was because I was only ranking 5 coasters and keeping the rest in the unranked pool below the line, but even after reducing my ridden coasters down to 5-6 and ranking all of those, I still couldn't save.

Jaguar is missing from Knott’s Berry Farm.

Jaguar has been added. It will show up in searches immediately but will take a few hours to show up on the massive list.

Just wanted to let you know, it's Stricker's Grove.

This has been fixed. Same deal.

I couldn't see Everland on there for T Express.

The missing Asian parks are still a week or two out, as I'm filling in European parks first.

We came to a consensus that the amount of "unique" variations on clones, such as Boomerangs and SLCs with new Vekoma trains and those lap bar only Sunkid trains, for example, justify calling out each coaster individually. Another example would be Great Nor'easter - plenty of people consider it to be one of the better SLCs due to its unique setting, and it wouldn't be proper to give it an individual entry and every other SLC a grouped one. We either go all-in, or not at all, and we are choosing to go all-in.

Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!

No they were completely out of order from how I had them last night. In fact, when I log in now, they are again out the order I saved them in, and again have random numbers assigned to them. I actually edited those this morning to put them in order 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Screenshot:

I'm on the latest Chrome browser and ranking is not working. I can't drag the coaster names to anywhere.

Huh. I just tested it on the latest Chrome, Safari, and Firefox and dragging and saving is working just fine for me. When you drag to the top, you have to hold it above that line just for a brief second and then it should drop into place. Is that what you are doing?

As soon as I click on the arrow and move, I get the "no" symbol and cannot drop anywhere. All coasters have an arrow and no number ranking. It says to drag outside the box to rank but that doesn't seem to be working. I'm using chrome 64-bit if that makes a difference.

Also, I tried hitting the save button to see if that would help and the progress circle just spun for over an hour.

Vilda Musen is listed under Thorpe Park rather than Grona Lund.

Chrystal Wing doesn't need an H.

Flutch von Novgorod doesn't need a T.

These have been fixed. Asia parks will start showing up in a week or so.

You've got to head back if you liked it, they've got this new rule (probably due to the swaying lift hill) where they now only load 3 adults per car and its ridiculous (spinning and 2 hour+ queues all summer!) I think its a really fun ride and definitely ahead of Sonic Spinball for me but like I have only done most of England, PortAventura, Parc Asterix and Sweden and i don't think its even top 30! Definitely fun though!

I would like to say as my personal thoughts I do like having these kind of family thrill coasters as its interesting to see what people think of coasters that aren't top 10 in the world and to see how people compare them. Obviously not like Mack powered coasters but more unique rides I think would be fun too see - just my thoughts though!

Also just wondering if you'd want to add Raptor Attack at Lightwater Valley since its much better than a standard Schwarzkopf Wildcat due to the setting/theming, I wouldn't have suggested if Twister the Reverchon spinner clone wasn't included but its without a doubt a better ride. Sorry if this a bit of annoying request as I understand your still adding stuff

Just started making my list and saving is working for more on Windows 10 Chrome. Really looking good so far its been roughly 5 years since Mitch's stopped i'm so glad its spot's finally been filled! Top Class!

Sorry to say, Chrome still isn't working for me either. Only the first 10 or so on the page (whether ranked or unranked) are able to be picked up, and then will not drop. The rest, when I click on them and try to drag, it gives me this little page icon that does nothing. See picture 1706549163_ScreenShot2018-01-15at2_07_43PM.thumb.png.2dc9a0733cd2d3c4eaa40b79dd7b9bbd.png

Attempting to drag "Iron Dragon" to the ranking list, note the little page icon

EDIT: Thanks for the suggestion of typing in the order and refreshing, that does seem to work, even on Chrome.

I finally got it to save on Chrome! I don't know what I did differently than earlier, but it works fine for me now.
