pianojohn
As I was cleaning out my office today, I found some black and white 8X10s I had taken for a photography class in college. These were taken in Sept/Oct of 1986. Enjoy! My attempt at an artsy shot of Corkscrew. Notice the last row with the OTSR in the up position. They were notorious for only checking the bars of people in those rows and leaving the rest in the up position. I remember one ride where they forgot to lock the bars. Eventually our screams as we left the station woke them up, and they locked them. Gotta love the 80s! Corkscrew from the Sky Tower. I think this is where X Flight or Superman were eventually placed. WolfBobs
Corkscrew at GL.. my first roller coaster! Even though it scared the poo outta me. Didn't ride a coaster again until Serial Thriller opened and I visited the park with my friends from school. Can't be lame in front of girls! lol Corkscrew was replaced with the Vekoma Boomerang. But from that angle Superman (the Intamin Impulse AKA Steel Venom) would also be visible along that rode. I miss this place...
JT325
Thanks for the report and pictures! I sure do remember Arrows running with shoulder bars up. On one particular occasion, I remember Demon at (SF) Great America running with shoulder bars up in the entire front car; they were airing out a recently cleaned protein spill. Around 1987/1988 was when I personally remember parks just starting to check restraints. It was rare before that. So was waiting behind the line until the train stopped; air gates were only on shuttle loops. 87/88 would be around the time of the (SF) Great ADVENTURE Lightnin' Loops incident. Most rides you were fine with the lap bar up, but not a shuttle coaster that launches into a steep drop. Geez... dispatches were so fast before that. My first time at Geauga Lake was 1988, during the ACE Coaster Con. Great to see these old pictures, thank you! I need to dig mine out.

The Lightning Loops incident happened in 1987.Although I had ridden LNM and Python before then,I don't remember the OTSRs ever being in the up position when in motion.
