rumble
Hi, I'm interested in finding out opinions on Frightfest and looking for some advice on whether it's worth the trip up from the South Bay. Has anybody done both Frightfest and Halloween Haunt at Great America? How do the two events compare?
Bubba
Hi, I'm interested in finding out opinions on Frightfest and looking for some advice on whether it's worth the trip up from the South Bay. Has anybody done both Fright Fest and Halloween Haunt at Great America? How do the two events compare? Fright Fest has always been pretty disappointing unfortunately. I love SFDK and go often but I don't make a special trip (East Bay) to Fright Fest, but if you haven't been yet it should be fun to see. Their haunted houses are mostly black walls and lack actors so don't expect much. Their scare zones were seriously lacking too, but Great Americas can as well. I didn't go to last years event though so hopefully someone can update you but I've been the previous years before that. I did check the site though and I'm sure what I told you will be accurate (the maze in the old 3D theater should be awesome though). You also have to pay a charge to get into the haunted houses, and the last time I went that experience was horrible. They only had 3 booths around the park and 1 person who had to collect money & put on your wristband. Took about 45 mins and the latest they stay opened at that time was either 10 or 11, was seriously glad I had time to ride Medusa as my only ride. This year they stay open till 12am Saturdays and Sundays so it should be fine. The years before we didn't have that problem also to be fair. I love Great America's haunt. It's like our mini Knott's Scary farm, though it has grown to be quite big event now. They've added a lot since they've opened & the offerings this year seem awesome. I do love SFDK during the Holidays though. They do a pretty great job at spreading Christmas all over the park. That's the reason why I feel fine missing Fright Fest now that I can get my nighttime Medusa rides in December. It's also extremely empty in the park during the Holidays which I love. Fire2box
I went back to SFDK yesterday. Park wasn't bad at all asides from the oppressive heat. Superman barely had a 20 min wait at best during all 3 times I went on it. Medusa was a walk on unless you wanted front or back rows around 4 or so. Roar is running two trains again and the lower line in front of roar was never full when I went on or by. ride totals: Superman: 3 Medusa 2: Roar: 2 A concussive Boomerang ride : 1 (Go die in a scrapyard Boomerangs, seriously.) Fire2box
Where is the old 3D theater? Along the path that connects the medusa plaza to the dolphin theaters, it's on the right side. There's a staircase of like 30 steps and a long ramp with a switchback in the middle. the fright fest map sucks at showing it's true location, just the general area. And the general map of course doesn't have it shown at all. here's a picture of the park with a crappy arrow and circle highlighting its location. link to full image. i.imgur.com/NWBllTF.jpg
RAWKIN_coaster38
Has anyone been to Fright Fest yet this year? How was it? And has anyone been in the new maze, "The Boathouse at Blood Lake?" I'm guessing it's in Monsoon Falls where Blackout or whatever the frick that maze was called was. EDIT: Total Darkness, this has been a tribute to a wonderfully memorable maze. singemfrc
These are making the rounds on Facebook at the moment. I'll just quote what I said on Facebook in reply to the person who posted it. This is written by someone who's just against animals in captivity period. Nowhere does it say how those animals died or allege abuse, though it implies both and possibly murder - the majority of those animals probably died of natural causes. All living things die eventually. Some living things are born with diseases or conditions which will shorten their life - in those cases living in a zoo or amusement park where they're cared for 24/7 no doubt considerably increased the length of their lives, but all it says is "they died". To imply that there's something criminal going on without any evidence evidence or even a clear allegation is certainly passive agressive and also either ignorant, malicious, or more likely both. That's not you I'm talking about, its the person who wrote those. Also I don't know where they got statistics on animal deaths at the park, it could all be utter and complete nonsense made up by this person to stir people up for their cause. It gives no sources so there's no way to check to see if it's even true. For some reason when someone prints text on paper and then takes a photo of it and puts it on Facebook people think it's more credible than if they just typed it. Sadly people tend to just believe anything they see on Facebook either way.

SFDK I feel might not be as good as SeaWorld, but I have no doubt that they don't try to take care of the animals as best as they can. either way, they aren't going to be protesting at the ticket booths/main gate and most won't turn away after driving miles to SFDK just to turn around due to protesters who don't know what they are even talking about. i'm betting it will be a small group if even that. jray21
Gotta love the animal rights activists. No mention of age of animal, or reasons why, etc. Just like the anti-Sea World people. I truly can't stand them.

Fire2box
Has anyone been to fright fest yet? How was it? Was it better than last year? I've liked it, the hypnotist at bird theater they have isn't that great at showmanship but his stuff is funny sometimes. I also went up 3 times, once per visit so far. He let's anyone come down until the chairs are filled and only asks that you be 16+ and give him your attention and do the best you can do. It's really just him getting you to relax enough to make a idiot of yourself. Haven't been to the park since 2010-2011 so can't compare to last year. I think the "mazes" are good and worth paying the 15 dollars for (if you got a season pass). However I did most of them alone or got group into a random party. Best one/most memorable is the one inside the bumper car's ride area. The Boat house one is also really nice.

I'm always getting the chicken strip meal for lunch at SFDK. also funny they protest the animals being cared for but not the chicken, fish, beef, turkey, etc products they sell. jray21
I've always thought SFDK has a decent selection of food. The crepes are definitely my favorite. I do enjoy their Frightfest as well. Nothing amazing, but it's overall a decent park.

Nothing amazing, but it's overall a decent park. I have the 2015 season meal pass and it's got a variety of things offered on it. However its still a slight dissapointment in at least one regard. biggest example: Sky High Fries near Medusa I can get Carna Asda Fries which are listed at 6.99 or 7.99 on the menu. But both Bacon Cheddar fries and Garlic Fries are 1 dollar cheaper on the menu, however it's not on the season meal menu. Last night however there was no line for the place at around 6:50 pm so I asked the guy if it was possible to substitute it with garlic fries order and he granted it. they were pretty good, better the SFMM's when I did a VIP thing there. Also cinnamon rolls are like 2.99 or 3.99 at the cafe to the right of guest relations/flash pass thing. I'll probably try one during holiday in the park if they still have em then, they looked pretty damn good. i like Cyber Cafe at SFMM more though, that place is pretty chill. Had one while waiting for the Awakening show on my last visit. They are good for the price, but nothing to write home about. Might have been better if it were eaem (which it wasn't). I was intrigued by the hot chocolate with Halloween Peeps for marshmallows, but it was a bit warm to try that day.

Hot chocolate + granulated sugar that might be flavored could be pretty good or possibly bad. I find it weird that SFDK doesn't get as cold as say O.co (A's and Raiders stadium at around 7-10 pm. I guess the "marine layer" doesn't affect Vallejo too much.
RAWKIN_coaster38
It’s your last chance to receive free parking for all of 2015 – you must process your Season Pass at the park by November 2! When you buy and process four or more 2015 Season Passes by this deadline, you’ll receive a free upgrade to our Gold Pass... From their newsletter. So is Marine World not selling Gold Passes after November 2nd? Save 46% on 2015 Gold Passes when you buy during our special sale! From Magic Mountain's home page. So I'm guessing Magic Mountain WILL sell Gold Passes after the 2nd but at a higher price? Is there really a difference between having a SFMM Gold Pass and a SFDK Gold Pass besides the in-park coupons and bring-a-friend tickets?
singemfrc
I think its a poorly worded email, I think its supposed to mean the free upgrade for four or more has to be done by 11/2.
CrazedZooChimp
I think its a poorly worded email, I think its supposed to mean the free upgrade for four or more has to be done by 11/2. And if it's anything like past years they'll offer it again sometime in the spring. Is there really a difference between having a SFMM Gold Pass and a SFDK Gold Pass besides the in-park coupons and bring-a-friend tickets? I know one difference is you have to get the pass processed at the park it comes from. That screwed a buddy of mine when he hadn't gotten his SFDK pass processed before going to SFMM. He still got in, but had to wait in the customer service line and pay a fee for not having his pass.
Coaster Palooza
We had the chance to do the Media/VIP day for Fright Fest. It was a blast! Fright Fest has some new mazes and scares. We also went to SFDK and FF earlier in the season. There are multiple photos from both dates. The Boathouse at Blood Lake is a new great maze. The Ghoulish Gathering is an awesome event! Gyen was a little Scared! The Gang! ERT on Superman The Awakening! Great time on the Bayou
