Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (SFDK) Discussion Thread

But you can't deny that would make the park's skyline pop; Though a starflyer will have an impact on the skyline as well.

I really hope it takes place of Skycoaster. Someone else wanted to see it where the go-kart track is but I always see a few people driving around on the go karts. Plus if it's where the gokarts are, the sky line won't look that great. Plus that area already has V2, Roar and tony Hawks rollercoaster's. I would prefer seeing great rides scattered all over the park rather then just on two sides of the park.

Judging on the theming, I wouldn't be surprised if it was placed somewhere in or near the Sky themed area. However, as the description goes, it would probably be placed a little bit further back... I think the most logical places to put it would be either the small bit of land between Kong and Boomerang or, as mentioned before, somewhere near the Skycoaster. Both places seem to have a small amount of space for a Star Flyer, though.....

I'm impressed, this looks really fun. If only CGA would get a 200 foot version of this. Might as well, everyone else seems to be getting one. Eventhough this may not be as tall as some of the others, 150 feet for a swing ride is still thrilling. Should be a lot of fun.

They're is no "sky" themed area. That's just the name given to rides in an area. Sky area rides are all over the park like Medusa, Roar, Boomerang ect.

Also to add to what Kevin had said I doubt any up charge rides would leave anyway. Now if they could take out the 3D theatre in favor of this ride I would love that. Seems as if however its a "credit whore" ride. Either way I'm still really excited for this.

That would be the optimum place for it, since the hilltop location would add a pop of elevation. Hey, is that height limit above ground level or lake level. I wonder?

How many more are they gonna build? Still looks cool though.

I'm waiting for one being constructed on top of the Stratosphere Tower.

The tower is around 1150ft high and then put a 230ft starflyer on top of that.

That would be truth crazy Vegas style.

My guess would be ground level. All I know is it has to do with those damn neighbors complaining years ago.

Instead of removing Cobra, I think they could remove, Scat-A-Bout, Wave Jumper, Thrilla Gorilla, Monkey Business, and/or even the Arc? I just think it's really weird they'd remove Cobra. What ever happened with the empty space from that starfish/casino-type ride?? Is that still there or did they do something with it??

Heck yeah! I know what park I'm hitting up next time I to go Cali. These things look terrifying. =D

If this kiddie star flyer is terrifying, than you have to visit Vienna, Austria.

The Prater Park has a 300ft high starflyer, which is the worlds highest yet.

I wouldn't mind them taking out Thrila Gorilla or Monkey Business because they are really lackluster and aren't that great.

The thing that leads we to believe they may put it back here is because they have blocked off one of the paths right in between the two attractions and replaced it with a smoking area...it makes Thrilla Gorilla's Queue unbearable.

And over the last few years, all the Zamperla prototypes they bought have started being removed from the park... Anyone know why SFDK went on a Zamperla Buying Spree in the first place?

I mean come one, it's Zamperla!

At the time the park was owned and operated by Premier Parks. Six Flags took over a year or two later if I'm correct.

If I remember, those rides were purchased pre-Six Flags around 1997 or 98.

I havn't ridden a starflyer yet so I will reserve judgment on if I think this is a good addition yet. Let me say that I was hoping for something better. The rides there are starting to get a little stale and out dated, almost to the point that they aren't much fun anymore. Medusa, Roar, Tony Hawk, and Boomerang are still good, but the rest of the lineup is not. Kong is horrible, V2 is now a joke, VooDoo runs a program that my 8 year old thought was boring, Hamerhead is always broken, and the 3D theater has been shuttered for over 3 years. I have been a season pass holder for the last 3 years and it feels like every year the park stays the same. I hope there will be some other monetary investments going into this park to make it worthy of another investment of my money, like maybe the new restraint trains for Boomerang. The only thing to look forward to next year at the park will be Bay Area Bash.

V2 is now a joke

A damn good one. I'll always have fun on an impulse coaster, be it the standard issue or Wicked Twister (can't vouch for Linear Gale having never been there), but the modification to the West Coast V2 put it head and shoulders above the rest to me.

I'm happy the park is getting a new thrill ride, but I won't be planning a visit around it. However, I'll make a point of riding it whenever I end up at SFDK next. Their current flat ride collection is pretty lackluster in the thrill department. My favorite is Hammerhead Shark but even that became somewhat tame by my second ride on it.

I wouldn't mind the removal of Cobra. It's actually one of my least favorite coasters (yes, even in comparison to other kiddie coasters). I'm not saying it's a bad fit for the park, as I'm certainly not the intended target audience, but I always found it completely boring and too heavy on the laterals.

Looking at the sattelite photos and stuff, what are the chances of it being built behind the Outback Burgers place (Next to Taz and Boomerang's loop)? Right now, it's seating for the food area. Not sure where/if those could be moved, I haven't been out to the Kingdom for a while...last visit was probably in 2006.

My thoughts about the ride, I think it's a great addition to the park. However, I think the park could really use some kind of drop tower...perhaps I'm spoiled by Drop Tower at CGA.
