Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (SFDK) Discussion Thread

^^Thanks, that's great to hear. I'm paranoid about maximum heights these days, particularly with new rides. And these trains look a lot like Sky Rocket /Kennywood, which had height limits for certain rows early in its history.

All of this hype's getting me excited, making me tempted to hit up SFDK real soon. All the excitement as a matter of fact inspired me to recreate this with No Limits. When I get things tuned with it, I'll probably make a thread in the games forum.

Yea, I'm sure that inline twist is probably way too long

So, overall yesterday I had a fantastic time during the commercial shoot. Superman's a great ride, and it's sure to be a hit when it opens to the public.

That said, I am a little concerned regarding loose articles and lockers. Superman reuses Pandemonium's lockers at the ride's entrance. However, I can see that becoming a problem. As many of you are aware, ride lockers are only locked for 2 hours. However, with this ride's low capacity, it's safe to say that a full queue for this ride will be longer than 2 hours, meaning their locker will 'expire' while they are waiting for the ride. This makes me wonder, is there any plan in place to prevent this? Will the ride have cubbies in the station?

Since V2 doesn't require the use of fluffy bunnies, I would assume the same for S:UF since there's only a single train.

Initially, I thought the same thing. However, sitting at the ride's entrance were Pandemonium's old fluffy bunnies with the words "Superman Ultimate Flight" on them.

^Well, my concern is, people will be in line longer than the fluffy bunnies are made for. What happens if their fluffy bunny opens up while in line because they didn't open it on time? A full queue for this ride can easily exceed two hours. However, I guess we'll just have to see what happens when the ride opens. Maybe they can operate the ride qucikly and get people through in less than two hours. I'm just curious to see if this causes problems for guests who use the fluffy bunnies.

There won't be any cubbies just the "fluffy bunnies". There is a sign right before you enter the loading station that says "No loose articles beyond this point". Also was talking to a fastpass associate at Roar who said to use Flash pass only platinum FP users will be able to and will cost an extra $12 charge and can only ride once with a rsvp like X2 & Green Lantern.

If the time limit expires, it does't just open and let anyone into it. They are supposed to come around every 2 hours and empty expired lockers and take it to lost and found. But if the ride is extremely busy, they aren't going to enforce that too strictly side they know what's going on.

Oh, I suppose that makes sense. I didn't know how that worked, when the 120 minutes expires. I also wonder if the fluffy bunnies will fill up completely? Especially if the line is very long. I remember at SFMM, X2's fluffy bunnies worked out very well, being placed near the station, since a full queue is more than 2 hours. I imagine that might have worked well for Superman, had they designed loading and unloading on the same side. But that's not the case, so that's out of the question.

My thoughts would have been an extension on the S:UF fluffy bunnies (or like already mentioned, more lenient on the time allotted for usage), especially knowing that the queues are going to be pretty long. Or people can save themselves the hassle and bring as minimum as possible to the park (as in don't bring what you can't put in your pockets). It would be a bad move for the park to force guests to go to lost and found after enjoying their new credit...kind of a buzzkill.

In all honesty, I wish SF in general would adopt the way cubbies/bins are used at CGA (not sure if other CF parks are doing this). While I did say bring as minimum as possible, some people do tend to wear hats when they're out in the sun including myself. It would be pretty lame to have to ditch the hat in a fluffy bunny rather than be able to leave it in the station. Demon and Flight Deck have 2 sets of bins with locking doors. Let's say Flight Deck as an example. One bin is marked as Eagle. When the goods from the eagle train riders are put in there, the door is shut and locked (only ride op has access to reopening it). This prevents riders from the Shark train from digging around in the Eagle bin. I'm assuming this was the problem at Six Flags parks especially since V2 and Boomerang doesn't have a fluffy bunny policy (only 1 train). Just my thoughts/opinions.

In other news, as you know today was media day. Some are itching for a POV. While there isn't a full on POV the local news had a little segment on the coaster featuring forward, offride, and reverse POVs with one of the members of the news crew taking in a ride with Captain Lee.

That's good to know. I'd probably either make sure to get to the ride immediately, or just go with Gold (or no) FP and have that be my big line to suffer through for the day. That worked out fine for me with SFOT and NTag (similar, but not identical, policy) on its opening day last year.

Just got back from media day at the park for Superman: Ultimate Flight. It was a great event with food, gifts, and Superman as the main attraction. I was able to take 3 rides on this one of a kind beast and it did not disappoint. I will tackle the worries about load times first. If the crew stays sharp for this ride, then I dont see that there will be the issues with occupancy as I had first worried. The station is quite small and the load teams do not have far to go to check restraints and get the train in motion. The train also comes to a perfect stop at just the right place every time, which will cut down the load issues that are seen on V2. The outside que area is very large with a whole bunch of switchbacks and there are TVs and info boards about Superman and his story throughout. Now, the ride. All I can say is Six Flags has a real gem at this small park. Everyone riding came back with huge smiles on their faces and rushed to get back in line. The launch is smooth and fast and gets you moving at quite a rapid pace, everyone of us in line for our first train were in awe watching this train shoot through the station a little faster each time. The front spike is my favorite followed by the back drop into the non inverting loop. The lap bar restraints are also a major highlight as they keep you in tight, especially through the slow speed twist, but do not restrain your arms or upper body in any way. Anyways here are some pics. Enjoy!

The que uses the old Zonga station cover, but they added a lower level on the concrete. They also put a lot of comic style info boards for infotainment.

Here is the outside of the station, I like it! (i'm told the ladder will be removed before opening)

Special thanks to Captain Lee (superman), by the way he had rode this ride with media 28 times straight before this pic. Surprised his face wasnt blue too. Anyways, Go Ride it NOW!

^It really is photogenic. I didn't even realize the color scheme was that nice until now, with it popping against the sky.

Even knowing exactly where it is, I still have a hard time picturing it in the park. I really need to get back...
