Rank Your Home Park's Coasters

Recommended Posts

^coming here a lot now i learning more and more about roller coasters i come to learn Vekomas are pretty much the Wal-mart of the coaster world....lol Intiman and B&M would be like the high end designer clothing store of the coaster world

I'd be careful of falling down the stairs into the enthusiast mindset. Vekoma's aren't all bad. Ask an enthusiast to rip apart one of the Disney Vekomas and they'll call you a moron. Yet they'll turn around and rip the company a new bunghole on other installations. Most of which they've never rode in all likelihood.

Form your own opinions on rollercoasters. If you fall into the enthusiast mindset almost nothing will meet expectations. You'll find that 3/4 of most parks should be burned to the ground according to most. Your mind will be made up before you get on a ride, and IMHO that sucks the fun out of this hobby. Exploring isn't as fun if you know the result ahead of time.

Oh ok i see. Yea i mean i did enjoy the Boomerang at Darien Lake when i went back in the summer of 2005. I though it was a lot of fun! Yet i notice many enthusiasts put that type of coaster very low on the totem pole....I loved how i was going up backyards and seeing the ground get farther and farther. It sure builds up adrenaline. I also liked how when i went through the loops the restraints came slightly loose giving you the feeling like you are going to fall. It made for a scary(in a fun way) ride. Not saying they are the "OMG best coasters ever!!"but still they arnt as bad as people say they are and are pretty fun.

Vekoma today isn't the Vekoma of yesterday either. The stuff they've done lately have been pretty successful for the most part (plus they're involved with bringing RMCs outside the US). Not to mention they often do try new things, which can't be said for every manufacturer.

Adventureland (Iowa)

1. Monster-great smooth coaster, love the hang time on the loop and the first drop

2. Tornado-decent airtime and not too rough

3. Outlaw- about as rough as tornado but only airtime on first drop

4. Underground- fun but barely even a coaster

5. Dragon- rough and over the shoulder restraints

Dollywood!

1) Tennessee Tornado

2) Thunderhead (when running well, usually at night)

3) Wild Eagle

4) Firechaser Express

5) Lightning Rod (great layout and concept, but too painful for me to be at the top)

6) Thunderhead (when not running as well)

7) Blazing Fury

8) Mystery Mine

MM could go way up the rankings with different restraints.

Fun Spot America

White Lightning

Come on, there are two more coasters in that park.

Then again, I can guess how those two would be ranked.

True! I forgot about the hanging one. But the kiddie one has since been removed.

Still my favorite coaster in probably all of Central Florida. Off to ride it today!

Six Flags New England

Haven't ridden a lot of these in a while, updated list probably late May/early June

1. Superman: The Ride (Intamin god of the Northeast. Front seat is OMG amazing!)

2. Batman: The Dark Knight (Great floorless, but short)

3. Wicked Cyclone (RMC. Enough said)

4. Goliath (Only rode it once and it gave me temporary vertigo)

5. Gotham CIty Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum (Simple Wild Mouse - good theming, though!)

6. Pandemonium (Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster - nothing special)

7. Mind Eraser (Not actually a bad SLC)

8. Catwoman's Whip (Fun coaster, but front-seat ride actually sucks on this. I go for back seat all the time)

9. Flashback (Headbanging, ow)

9. Catwoman's Whip (Fun Zierer family coaster, but front-seat ride actually sucks on this. I go for back seat all the time)

10. Flashback (Headbanging, ow)

Have never ridden The Great Chase, Fireball is a Larson Super Loop, NOT a coaster, and Joker hasn't been built yet.

I always get asked my ranking of coasters at my home park and I have a definitive 1 and 2, but after that I never really have an answer so maybe this will help me organize my thoughts.

Cedar Point:

1. Maverick

2. Millennium Force

3. Valravn (Probably just the newness, but I REALLY enjoy Valravn. Might change places in a couple years)

4. Top Thrill Dragster

5. Magnum

6. Raptor

7. Gatekeeper

8. Rougarou

9. Wicked Twister

10. Blue Streak

Update: This didn't help, and now I'm second guessing everything. Oh well

Wild Waves and Enchanted Village (all of the coasters are pretty sad):

1. Timberhawk (short woodie with zero airtime or thrills)

2. Klondike Goldrusher (average wild mouse)

3. Kiddie Coaster

4. Wild Thing (possibly the roughest, most uncomfortable Arrow corkscrew I've ever rode, and they have the audacity to run you through it twice!)
