Harvest Festival: Barton Orchards & Fun Park

Recommended Posts

Barton Orchards is an awesome farm in Poughquag, NY with a few homebrew style rides on premises. Their Harvest Festival was on Saturday so we went and enjoyed the unusually hot early fall day. This was our first visit and we'll definitely be back this year to pick some apples.

There will be no ride ratings as I did not actually ride anything, but observing was a blast.

You're day is probably going to turn out well when there's a goat enjoying a f@#cking overpass.

We picked up seven pounds of jalepenos, which are now canned and pickling.

We've made it to the park! Woohoo! This is the only park you enter through a tunnel of CRAZY A$$ grapevine.

Now onto some rides!!

There are attractions aplenty including a haunt walkthru.

And freakin' BOULDERDASH, baby!

I mean, admit it, you kinda wanna do this.

Oooh, yeah, onto some REAL rides. This, sadly, was down. Tractor wouldn't start. Maintenance had been called, but they couldn't estimate how long it would be. Hate it when that happens!

Let's have a closer look at this, shall we?

Ahh ha... That's why they're so quiet.

Why yes, I will be building a set of these now.

Huge corn maze! By the time we made it here, we were short on time and couldn't afford to chance getting lost, LOL.

That's all, folks. We really did have a great day. I mean there was live music and pulled pork and beer so ...

I've always wondered about those slides that look like they're made out of drainage tubing. Wouldn't that be like a slow and painful experience to go down with those ripples or is there something added inside that smooths it out? Or do you go down using a mat?

Also, if they added a loop on the end of it with water, it would look just like that old ghetto looping slide at Action Park!

This is literally 10 minutes from my house and I live off the same road as this place (though closer to civilization, lol) but it's been forever since I've been there. Maybe I'll stop by this year for some hot cider. I can't believe how much they've expanded.

More importantly I had no idea they had a liquor license. Do they brew their own stuff or is it normal beer? Because if it's some stupid sh*t like apple beer then count me out.

The inside isn't ribbed (for your pleasure ), so it's actually fairly smooth; just slightly washboarded. The places I've gone on them had carpet remnants for mats.

I totally missed the last few replies!

So my caption lied and I did not actually hit up the tap room for various reasons. Their site mentions local craft brews, so I'm thinking real beer and betting you'd be all set. Hours are kind of limited & funky though so check for that. I don't believe they brew their own.

That said, craft hard cider = win. But I agree, oddly flavored beers = good chance of fail.

The place is definitely worth a stop since you're so close. Then again orchards in general enthuse me more than they do most people.
