thedazza
The Disco Dancer ride at Kishkinta amusement park in Chennai in India has derailed and crashed to the ground, killing at least 1 rider and injuring 20 others. There is a video of it happening in the following link, quite disturbing to watch though. http://rtlec.co.uk/index.php/at-least-one-dead-twenty-injured-as-giant-wheel-ride-crashes-to-ground-at-park-video/
Rill'o'beily
Looks like a Disk'o ripoff. That's really unfortunate and I do hope the park owner stays in jail for quite a while for this forcing the riders on.
Sportsdude360
OMG!!! That looks like a Zamperla Disk'o type ride! I'm wondering if this will effect Hurricane Force 5 down at SFFT which is a similar ride. What a terrible accident!!! Satans Hockey
That video is wild, I'm surprised more aren't dead. RyanTPM
I'm also surprised that there hasn't been more deaths from this, that video is quite shocking really. I'd also say that it's a knock off and certainly not from Zamperla.
michaellynn4
That video... Goddamn.... Hope every one else who was injured makes a speedy recovery. Throw the book at that owner. Edited May 13, 2016 by michaellynn4
Genx24
Frightening footage. Hope those injured pull through and that the park owner is convicted.

KBrylczyk
I wouldn't say it derailed, more like the disc split in half. You can hear all of the bolts shearing and metal snapping.
Johnlloyd
According to this post on Facebook, it was a locally built version of the Zamperla Disk-o. It's a knock-off, so there's no fear in riding the Zamperla (legitimate) version of the Disk-o. It is a shame though that one person was killed. It appears that the staff were forced to ride, as if the owner of the ride knew as to what was going to happen!
Shavethewhales
What's amazing is that this doesn't happen more often. So many crappy east Asian companies are building stuff like this based off of pictures from western companies. It's all about making it look similar, not actually engineering it. The industry was really up in arms about it a few years ago, and I'm sure it will always be an issue.
Rill'o'beily
It's quite easy to recognize as a knockoff since zamperla versions don't have such visible wheels and most of the ride system is inside the central hub where the restraint button is. canadianparkfan
Sounds like the issue was poor maintanence/management... I personally don't think it was a "ripoff"ride, as the Indian partks I know of tend to have the legit thing. Regardless, this is still a tragedy, and my are with the victims and their loved ones. It can't be the real thing though, wrong dimensions and the centre of the plate doesn't have the hub which is necessary for zamperla Disk'o's to work. DoinItForTheFame
Well, the accident is truly terrible. I feel bad for all those involved. But what really gets me is this part: The 20-odd people on the giant wheel at the time of the accident were workers who had been asked to take the ride as part on a trial run. Many of them said that they were reluctant to get on the ride, but were forced to go. They were all employees, who were forced to ride it.

prestige89
Yes, that's the link to the official Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/Antonio.Zamperla.SpA/posts/10156846302915573 It's a copy, not produced by Zamperla.
Infinity
At least Zamperla might get some business out of this as parks won't buy as many knock-offs. Other than that I'll keep my thoughts with all those affected by this incident.
TBpony414
Watching the footage it was almost unbelievable to watch the ride dismantle and crash like that! Surprised more weren't killed in that awful and avoidable situation. Thoughts with all the family members and friends, guests, and others who saw this. 805Andrew
Wow, that's awful. That was saddening to watch. It looked like the knockoff Disko tipped over.
SFOG1991
A second person has apparently died from their injuries. I'm still shocked this incident didn't kill more people. That video is quite graphic...
rcjp
^It really is impressive how "only" two died so far. It looks extremely violent
coloradocoasterguy
Injured simply means not killed. They could still be missing limbs and/or have permanent brain damage.
