Park Pet Peeves

Recommended Posts

Or how about "Your attention please. Due to incliment weather conditions in the immediate area, normal operation of _______ has been suspended for safe reasons. We appologize for the inconvience...."

Not really a pet peeve, but weather delays suck. Lol.

Hehe you should check out my SFGADV video. Every single outdoor ride was closed for 90 mins due to some "truly awful" weather.

I think I got one single drop of water on me during that time, and the only thunder we could hear was faaaaaaaaaaaaar, faaaaaaaaaaaar away....

Another thing that bugs me are people sitting on the railings and gates in the station and ignoring the ride-ops telling them to step down.

^ Ha, I've been through that. Nice clear day out and they stop the rides because of weather. Yet a weather delay did do me some good one time. I stuck with the line in Dueling Dragons, and a good number of people left. That got me to the front of the line, and I was part of the first bunch back on after the ride reopened.

I'll have to capture the video/upload it to Youtube, but I caught on film some idiots jumping off the swing ride yesterday at CGA as the ride was slowing down. Was still going at a fast enough speed that the swing behind them could have kicked the kid from behind...was actually waiting to see that happen. Not once, but twice he pulled off that stunt. So yea, my other peeve is people who make rides be so 'dangerous' by them being stupid.

People who wear flip flops. Yes. Well, at least who then board floorless coasters. I wouldn't expect them to put them in a locker and then go barefoot thru the entire queue, but when they board they have to go set them aside. It's really the same thing as lugging bags and other personal crap onto a coaster.

Hey. come on, you guys, I was the one who brought back this long dead thread and I'm not getting the recognition I deserve! Lol, I'm kidding, just kidding, but does anyone out there agree with me? Is anyone else peeved by flip flops?

^ No I enjoy wearing them to themeparks, as I can actually ride the water rides without fear of the dreaded "trench foot" syndrome coming from wet shoes and socks. I can sort of understand where you're coming from, but it isn't nearly as annoying as any of the other items that are being listed...

Large Guests who bypass the test seat. Sit down, and begin the battle against the seat belt. Ive had guests:

Slip the black end of S:ROS's seatbelt through the clip, thus making it fall off. I walk over from the panel and they angrily hold the pieces in their hand and tell me that their seat belt is broken.

Hold both ends up, look up, and with a puzzled look say, "It wont buckle". Then proceed to pull down their lap bar and try to convince me that they'll be fine on the ride.

Large Guests who bypass the test seat.

I think more people would be willing to try the test seat if it wasn't right out in the front of the entrance where everyone is watching. It would also help if the test seats at all rides were accurate. Voodoo for example has a belt on the test seat that is much shorter than the actual belts on the ride. I see people try the test seat can't get it buckled and think they can't ride. I want to tell them they should try the ride anyway if they are close but I always keep my mouth shut since I don't want to get their hopes up and then they may not be able to ride.

People waiting for a certain row on a coaster and blocking every other row. Last Sunday at Raging Bull (SFGAm), the front row queue was full and going out of the station. The back row line went all along the back wall of the station then out of the station. Rows 2-8 were completely empty.

Basket Balls. If the parks must have them as prizes, they should be issued deflated.

People who complain that their kid who is 1/3584665747 of an inch too short should be able to ride.

People in the station when the above occurs that chant "Let him ride"

People who reride when there is a 2 hour line.

People who deface park property. No one cares that Mr X was in line for Shock Wave on 8/23/97

People who step on seats to get in/out of the train (usually on Arrow Loopers and Whizzer type trains) The seat is not a step. That is how padding gets damaged.

No it's not, most 2,3,4 year old's rarely listen to what their parents tell them.

Yeah, its as if parenting isn't easy or something huh?

I love child leashes.

That's because you are a lazy parent. Sorry. Sorry to your kid too.

I'm 19 and Gay, I have no children, I hate children, and don't intend on having any children .

*Ride Ops who make reriders exit and walk back when there is ABSOLUTELY no line, including no one walking in queue.

*People who think height requirements are merely sugguestions and the correct person to complain about it to is the 16 year old ride op.

*ACEr's (I have my reasons)

*Park management that create ridiculous safety policies JUST for the sole reason NOT to be compared to their crosstown rivals *Cough* Knott's

.

Having half your rides closed for "lack of Staffing", yet all of your games and merchandise venues are wide open.

Movie tie-in s for rides to attract families, yet the brands chosen appeal to teens.

At Knotts last week on Ghostrider, they took about 10 minutes to load the train then unlocked the lapbars and sent the train without rechecking them.

If your going to do that at least dont bother making us wait 10 minutes to check in the first place .

At King's Dominion, when Hypersonic was still there, the station was an utter disaster since there were 4 rows and they didn't control the flow of riders in the station, which caused there to always be around 60 people in an area with around 30 square feet of room.

But anyway what happened to me while I was there was probably the single most irritating thing that has ever happened to me at a park. So, I’m getting close to at least entering the gates when the opps. call for a single rider, and since I was alone I called out and most of the people in the row moved out of the way. When I was just about to get to the gates, this retard who is about 400 pounds thinks I’m cutting in front of him and grabs me by the wrist, pulls me back to him then pushes me back into the crowd. So then, not only was I more pissed off than I probably have ever been in my entire life, but I’m at the back of the crowded station and I can't even get forward to tell the ride opps to call security before he boards, rides and leaves the ride.

My home park is full of gum-chewing employees who mutter the safety spiel so that no one can hear it and are so rude I just feel like they don't want to be there. It really annoys me. Then in the same park there are awesome employees who joke and clearly love their job (or are at least very good at acting it). But I guess you get that at all parks.

"Having half your rides closed for 'lack of Staffing,' yet all of your games and merchandise venues are wide open." (Bolliger&Mabillard)

Remember, rides and merchandise bring in $$$. Operating rides costs the park $$$ to staff.

OMG that is even worse than what Cedar Point did when I was there.

Here are the ones that have already been mentioned that bug me:

- People who complain when their kid is too short to ride.

- People who do not fit into the seats and hold up the ride because they didn't try the test seat first.

- People who demand to be let out after being locked in.

- People who come through the line and say something like, "my friend is up there, let us by." Maybe your "friend" should come back and meet your group of ten behind us.

- People who then proceed to make a scene in any of those situations.

- Basketballs. For the love of God, please deflate the balls before handing them out to guests - especially the Vallejo locals at SFDK.

- Hyped up on crack-cocaine teen girls who think it's okay to scream the entire ride at a frequency so high it does more damage to the head than a typical Vekoma.

- One train operation on crowded days. Combined with 7 minute dispatch makes it even worse.

- Unreasonably stupid (and I mean REALLY stupid) GP.

- Having 8 photographers swarm me upon entry to the park. I'm not against the idea, I'm just against the way they follow through with it. It only takes one to take a picture.

- Giant stuffed animals bigger than the guest being carried through a crowded Boomerang station (and when the guest tries to shove it into one of the lockers at the ride entrance).

- People who take my seat when I go put my belongings in the bin off to the side. Happened to me at Cedar Point more than anywhere else.

- Smokers in the non-smoking areas. I can understand your deadly addiction, but do yourself and everyone else a favor by waiting until you find the designated area.

- Cedar Point and GADV's rain policy.

- Vandalism of any kind.

- Bad parenting (in ALL forms).

- 1 person in a row on any 4 across coaster.

- When groups of four bitch about my friend and I going ahead of them to fill in two of those empty seats.

- Stapling. Especially bad at SFNE. I do not need a ride op who is as big as Robb to body slam my restraint on Batman down on me again. I need my lungs to NOT have a broken rib through them after the ride.

- But mainly, people just being unreasonable in any circumstance.

My own ones:

- At Knott's when there's trash in Perilous Plunge's queue because there's no trash can there, yet the rest of the park has more trash cans per square foot than guests.

- Ride ops trying to get dates with each other while the train is waiting to have the restraints checked and locked. SFA comes to mind.

- The annoying childish sounding teen voice that repeats the "Hhhey therrreee THIS is the Maaaliboomer..." recording in Maliboomer's queue at DCA every 30 seconds (30 seconds from the beginning of the recording).

- Mid course breaks that bring a ride to a near complete stop (KD ruined Flight of Fear and Avalanche with this).

- The "hyphy" kids at SFDK.
