New Amusement Park in Alabama for 2016

Recommended Posts

The Zyklon looks like Playworld Amusements' ride. Like, exactly like it. My money is on fraud, honestly - if that thing shows up in Michigan in two weeks for Ionia like it is typically booked or Wisconsin at the end of the month....yeah. I sense someone probably thought those were podunk folk to pull a viscous burn on with a shell company.

I had a chance to visit while the park was open. Here are the pictures I managed to take that day.

And here is a POV I shot of their Cyclone Coaster

It's really sad to see this close so early. The owners honestly had their heart and soul in this project. I met with Stacey, the co-owner, while I was there. She gave me a tour of the park, explaining all it took to build the park, where all the rides and decor came from, and how they had their 2nd and 3rd phases of the park laid out already. She was super passionate about it and genuinely wanted it to succeed. It's a shame it had to close before it really had a chance to take off.

What a pain. Sounds like their investor simply flipped on them instead of letting them correct the course and actually last long enough to evaluate the business. Make sure you go into business with professionals.

The location doesn't sound like it was a great choice though. $25 shouldn't be a huge amount of money, but these people are acting like it's a months wages. I don't think there's enough disposable income there to make it viable even if they did expand to make it "worth it".

Ugh, this is like the fourth new park (that actually got off the ground) to go under in recent memory. Galveston Pleasure Pier is about the only success story I know of recently. Is the industry too difficult to enter now unless you have your own capital to live off of for a few years?

A) Building a new theme park is a tough gig because infrastructure costs are enormous. This isn't really a new theme park. These are all portable/trailered rides, some of which are actually easy to figure out the sourcing on because there's so few of them out there like that ARM swing.

B) I don't care what business you plan on running: If you don't have enough capital to run it for two/three years without profitability, don't bother. Stick to a 9-to-5. You'll piss your money away in no time by getting in over your head.

C) Lesson about capitalism: Some people have no intention of succeeding. Thomas Etheredge of Wild West World is often used as a comparison point for these small parks that fail of a guy that "didn't understand the market" or some nonsense like that. He was convicted of securities fraud related to the investments on the park. He was a past offender who had committed it previously. Where did the money go? Authorities have no idea. My guess is that he'll live a surprisingly comfortable existence for someone with multiple felony convictions and many years spent behind bars, if you catch my drift. Theme parks are an offshoot of the carnie biz, and carnies are gonna carny.

Lmao what a huge pile of crap. Maybe they should have purchased a few less garbage attractions and spent the money on grass seed, trees, and payroll. I've seen better looking trailer parks than this place.

LMAO thank you for willing to be less kind than I. This place would be busted ass garbage in Tajikistan, much less America.

Everybody's gotta start somewhere. We were going to go to the new Bell's in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which honestly was pretty much like this place. The only thing that changed our minds was that the owner, Robbie Bell, stopped working on his park. If he was still actively involved in it, we would have gone. I will always support a guy trying to put his family business back together again, even if it's first tenuous steps. Say what you want about them, but a Galaxi is a solid choice for a new, small park just trying to make it. They're cheap, and they're a lot of fun. You really can't go wrong with one.

Bell's I can feel sorry for because they got punted out of their space not because they they were a failure, but because of Ol' Boy Politics. And like I said about the Galaxi: I don't believe they even own it. Which is part of my issue with this whole story, in addition to things like not paying staff. That's disgusting. Screw them.
