Playland's Castaway Cove Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah that three story hotel across the street looks tiny compared to it. Those balconies will surely have a nice view of the ride. When checking the webcam I often wonder if the house (on the left, right next to the track) is a rental or if the owners live there, and if so what do they think of this. LOL

Nice new little bit of local press about the new ride with some great photos.

A New Roller Coaster Coming to Ocean City NJ

March 11, 2016

A Gale Force will be sweeping into Ocean City’s PlayLand amusement park this 2016 season, and no, it’s not a wind storm.

GaleForce is the name of a brand new 125-foot-tall roller coaster set to be complete by April. Featuring a 64-mph triple launch and a beyond-90-degree drop, this massive blue thrill ride will be an awesome addition to the Ocean City boardwalk.

Designed by Playland owner Scott Simpson, the ride is being engineered and manufactured by S&S – Sansei Technologies of North Logan, Utah. The company is also responsible for constructing the famous Double Shot, which we all know and love. GaleForce will actually be slightly higher than the Double Shoot, which stands at 110-feet-tall.

The 12-passenger dynamic GaleForce will replace the Looping Python and Flitzer roller coasters and will cost 6 tickets to ride. According to Playland Castaway Cove’s Vice President Brian Hartley, the new coaster will feature seven “thrilling” elements.

Galeforce has been quietly in the making over the last several years and is something owner Scott Simpson has wanted for a long time. This new ride will certainly be a big change for Ocean City, stepping the island up a notch in amusement park thrills.

It appears that S&S removed their Launched El Loco video from Youtube. I was going to look at it because I thought I remember seeing a double twist at the end. Did anyone by any chance reupload the video?

That's odd, I wonder why they took it down.

There's still a few channels that have the vid up if you just type "Gale Force Playland's" in the search bar on youtube

I'm wondering if they are waiting for more track to show up unless they have it off in some staging area off camera. They still have a good bit to install - the beyond vertical drop off the tophat and all the track up leading up into the other side. What track that is left on the ground next to the ride is clearly not all of what is needed to complete the circuit. Wonder if we'll see a second shipment soon?
