Playland's Castaway Cove Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Local news did a little piece tonight on 2016 additions @ Playland (and Moreys), featuring a few quick upclose shots of construction and track. Most notable info contained therein? They are aiming for a Memorial Day weekend opening for Gale Force. Its also mentioned that weather has been slowing them down.

^ Yeah I figured that as well once they did it. And yeah so far only one train has appeared, so it would seem that's all they are getting.

While they have been steady knocking out supports all week, I'm not sure we'll see much get done today.

Yesterday. This thing is gonna be funky (in the best way possible)

^ Its gorgeous here. Going up to 60 and feels like spring! Supposed to get nicer as the week goes on, almost 80 on Thursday (WTF). I'm sure they'll crank out a bunch over the next few days. They are currently installing the next piece of track, which I believe will lead up to the top hat.

^ After speaking with one of the engineers about this project, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say Gale Force is going to be much more intense than a Sky Rocket. I'm not trying to knock the Sky Rockets, though, as I think they're excellent rides. They're incredibly fun and weird. This S&S version, though, will be a different type of experience that focuses much more on terrifying amounts of negative Gs. Sky Rockets really only had one big pop of air while this thing will be almost nonstop.

I agree with this. The Sky Rockets are very good rides but they definitely focus more on the positive G's. Tempesto had me pushed down into my seat the entire ride. Very forceful.

As excited as I am for this new ride, I am going to miss their old coasters, particularly the looping one. That thing was thoroughly in the "so bad it's good" zone. Had a couple brutal moments to it that I loved.

You can still get pummeled by it, just a short hop over to Michigan.

Definitely seems that way. This is basically going to launch you into a bunch of twisted airtime hills.

edit: double post. Whoops.

^ I'd say GreatAdv at this point. Last Joker update was over a week ago and they had almost reached the top shelf. Wish we had a webcam there to see how far along they are at the moment.
