DirkFunk
Good points. But remember this is Jersey so who knows if there is some crazy law about have to retest a new ride if it doesn't open within a specified numbers of days from the original testing cycle. http://www.state.nj.us/dca/divisions/codes/codreg/pdf_regs/njac_5_14A.pdf Plenty of laws which make no sense are on the books. That isn't one of them. The park promised Gale Force would open, but we still don't know why they stated a month ago that they were still waiting for a part. Did something break after testing? Was the missing part for Wild Waves or Gale Force? None of us know the whole story. Whatever it is that is actually the cause for the delay, the fact remains that the ride was announced 14 months ago. They've had over a year to deliver the goods and managed to completely and totally miss their operating season. They weren't building a giant themed indoor attraction with a bajillion animatronics and projectors. Universal managed to get Transformers in Orlando done in less time than a small footprint single train launched coaster. Now they're promising to try and get this thing open even if its December 10th and sleeting. LOL indeed.
KBrylczyk
I feel like "waiting on a part" is complete BS. S&S isn't exactly the busiest manufacturer these days so it's not like they're backlogged on orders and I'm sure they'd do all they could to get this new coaster model operational in a timely fashion. I blame the crappy Miler. Oh, and yeah, I know, don't pass judgement on the Miler until I've ridden it, yadda yadda yadda. It's a Miler. It's gonna blow. They are working on three drop towers for Hershey and four Free-Fly coasters for 2017. I'd say that's quite a bit right now.
KBrylczyk
^ The free fly coasters aren't entirely built by them, though. RMC does all the track work. Also, drop towers should be a quick in-and-out job for them at this point.

Canobie Coaster
And I heard the Scandia Screamer one is really good too. And Wild Waves looks like it'll have a lot of hills like that one.
KBrylczyk
And I heard the Scandia Screamer one is really good too. That's just disillusioned enthusiasts hoping for a decent ride in that area. It's pretty crap. I say drive the half hour past the mountains and ride a quality coaster art Knotts.

larrygator
Still hoping for that November opening Larry? Why wouldn't I hope for it? Hope and expectations are not the same. I guess I'll have to settle for this! Edited October 26, 2016 by larrygator

LBIJim
Holy crap. I drove past it a few months back, and didn't realize how close that house is. I don't know if I would love to live that close to a ride or hate it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That house right next to Gale Force was built in 2004, long after the park was in operation. Before that, there was an older rooming house type of hotel on the site, and its small parking lot was next to the old coaster. The proximity of the coaster didn't deter someone from buying the new house, and I suppose it doesn't bother the weekly renters.
LBIJim
If it was a park on the Atlantic City boardwalk, I could see it drawing an ok crowd with more stores open year round and the casino visitors plus all the shows and concerts. On the Ocean City boardwalk, other than the Christmas store that is close to the park and an arcade or two, I don't think much is open after this weekend. Maybe they think locals will visit? About a dozen stores on the Ocean City boardwalk stay open year round, a few only on weekends. Shriver's candy and the Fudge Kitchen near the Music Pier, the Johnson's Popcorn location near 14th Street, the Christmas store, and a handful of others. Maybe one of the Manco & Manco pizza locations. Ocean City has a year round population of over 10,000, so it's not completely deserted during the off-season. But visiting Playland in November or December? Very unlikely. It's very disappointing that Gale Force didn't open this season.
coasterbill
While most parks in the region are now closed for the year, Playland's Castaway Cove is still putting their f**king Miller coaster together for their possible November-ish opening that nobody will show up for. These trains will take you on a ride of unparalleled mediocrity. Unloading More photos...lol, this entire thing is so pathetic that it's become completely hilarious

KBrylczyk
That goddamned Miler is gonna open before Gale Force and they're gonna give it a press day and everything. Meanwhile Gale Force will open next season (maybe) with no fanfare and they'll pretend this whole year never happened.

DirkFunk
So the story from Screamscape on this seems to be that everything is a complete cluster: track is being refabricated for the ride in Italy and then needs to get on a boat before being installed and the ride tested again. The Miler coaster was delayed and then in the rush to get it up and Galeforce operating (which of course couldn't happen anyways, see prior statement re: track), had to be shipped to the site unpainted, where it will likely stay unpainted forever. You can't make this up.
coasterbill
Last year Coney Island opened Thunderbolt and Wonder Wheel for New Years Eve and had a fireworks show. Make it happen Ocean City.
