Olympia Looping (Cranger Kirmes 2015)

Recommended Posts

Hello all, So it's that time of year in the part of Germany where I live when the Fair (Kirmes) comes to the Crange. I just got out of Hospital, long story, And my girlfriend took me down to see the coaster as she knew it would cheer me up. So I was down there today and got a few photo's of the guys building the Olympia Looping up. I managed to ride this at Oktoberfest last year in Munich so I'm excited that its a bit closer to home for me to ride this time. I will go down there next week or so and take so more photo's. But here's the pictures I took today for the Schwarzkopf lovers out there.

Look's awesome! It always amazes me when I see larger(ish) coasters like this that are taken apart and moved around from location to location! ... And yet they always seem to run more reliably than Six Flags coasters that spend all their life put together in one park!

Can't wait for the new photos!!

thanks for posting this. i flew to munich last year for 4 days just to ride olympia looping. It was awesome and totally worth it. I went about 15 times.

Send more construction pics if you have time. Since you just got out of hospital and have nothing else to do maybe you could sit on a lawn chair with a case of beer and watch them build.

Where is Crange? is it a big fair? Can you find out what other stops olympia looping is making? i had thought it was only going to do oktoberfest because it needed special permits with the TUV to go on highways because of the weight of the trailers?

what other coasters are you getting Test track (doppel looping?) the Schwarzkopf fans want to know!

I rode it in Munich as well but only once because it was 8 Euros a ride lol. I'm back to work this weekend but I shall be down at the fair when it opens.

The Cranger is in Wanne Eickle and it comes every year, it's one of the biggest events in the area. To be Honest I don't know an awful lot about the coaster, but I know it does Oktoberfest in Munich, the Düsseldorf Kirmes which was two weeks ago and now the Cranger Kirmes which is apprently the third biggest fair in Germany.

There is also a Maurer Spinning coaster this year. Sometimes The Schwarzkopf Alpina Bahn coaster travels around too, but it doesn't appear to be at the Cranger this year.

I thought i remembered 8.50 euros. but since i spent $1200 to fly there and about the same for hotel, 120 euro for the actual coaster i came all of that way for wasn't so bad.

Do they run 7 car trains or just 5 for outside munich?

Thanks for sharing, great pics! I rode this in Munich in 2002 and it was awesome. It felt like it went on forever....mainly because I had too much beer in me?

I do hope that Germany keeps it running and touring for as long as possible. It really is something special.

The biggest fair coaster that I've seen is the Schwarzkopf Dopple Looping that came to the CNE each year when Conklin Shows ran the midway. I have no idea what ever happened it it but it was fantastic.

^ Was that the same Doppel Looping coaster at the CNE that was at Dorney Park? I read on RCDB that the coaster from Dorney Park was bought buy German show men and is called TestTrack, but i'v never seen it at any fairs here?

Conklin's Doppel Looping and Laser at Dorney were separate rides with very similar or identical layouts. Doppel Looping ran at Miami-Dade County Fair in Florida thru 2008. No idea what happened to it after that. Dorney's ride did indeed go to Europe for a traveling show.

If I rode Olympia Looping, it was lost to the blur of (non)memories that my '09 Oktoberfest visit became. Sadly coasters were not on my radar at the time. Need to get back there!

It was sold to a park in Pakistan. Not sure if it was ever assembled.

It's just not economical to have a big ride (Doppel Loop took 28 trailers) travel in the U.S. thanks to the "pay one price" promotions and contracts for whole midways instead of independent operators like in Europe.

This right here. I think that it's the same reason why traveling fairs in the United States seem to have a "carnie" feel - the show company just needs to set up their rides, make sure they're running safely, and nothing else.

That one amazing ride on the European circuit (Olympia Looping, Stargate / Megaspin, Transformer, et al) might be the operator's livelihood - their one-ride show. The object of the game is to get as many people on the ride as possible, and operators pretty much have to turn their fair ride into an art form to do so.

Hello all, I popped over to the Cranger Kirmes tonight after work. The fair isn't open yet, but all the attractions are up and finished. What I love about these european fairs is every ride is clean with a fresh coat of paint, The artwork is top notch and tonight the owners were checking every single light bulb and replacing broken ones. It's seams they take great pride in each ride and only want to showcase the best.

Anyways, I only had my iPhone5 on me so the photo's aren't the best but I got a few shots of Olympia Looping and The Maurer Spinner. They also have a gigantic log flume and a 85m tall Gyro Drop tower. I love a drop ride so a got a couple shots of that too.

The silhouette of olympia looping in the sunset is cool. Normally it would have it's lights on at that time.

Take a few rides for me in the back row for me! I like it when the front of the train pulls you over the tops of the loops (which you get to do 5 times!)

The helixes and tightly banked curves were awesome too.

This is among the best coasters i have enjoyed.

I went over to the Cranger Kirmes today with some friends and got on a few rides, and ate a lot ha. Most the rides ranged from 3.50 euro's to 8 euro's. Olympia Looping was 7 euro, It was incredible, It was raining while I rode which made it totally awesome and I thought it was also really smooth. The drop tower was great and they let you do it twice for the price of one ride, score. Here are some pictures I took through out the day. The Fair is massive and great fun, despite the rain I had a really good time, A favourite of mine was The Shake which totally confused my brain but it's one awesome flat ride. I only wish there was a wrist band system so you could ride every ride. Unfortunately you have to pick what you ride and don't ride, else you could end up spending a fortune.

Great pictures!

I had the chance to visit Düsseldorf Rheinkirmes in July and it was mind-blowing. The amount of rides, the way they run everything and the overall feel of the fair is just amazing.

Olympia Looping was also something like 7,50 € and I ended up spending 150 € in rides throughout the 2 days I spent at the fair. I think it was worth every cent because cycles were long and varied.

Hopefully Olympia Looping will continue running the Germa fair circuit for many years to come.

Olympia Looping is a beautiful coaster. Thank you for sharing your pics, I might never get a chance to see it in person. Those 3 stacked turns are just perfect.

European fairs are so much better than anything in America, those rides are all just awesome looking. That Mondial Shake looks like it would make me very sick! (I think that's supposed to be a blushing face but it looks like it's about to be sick)

I think I might be fortunate enough to be in/around Munich in late July next summer...does anyone on here have a good idea where Olympia Looping may be at that time?

Around late july 2016 you maybe get the chance to ride Olympia Looping in Duesseldorf at the Rheinkirmes. The fair starts on the 15th of july and ends on 24th of july.

Duesseldorf is about 600 kilometers (370 miles) away from munich.
