thrillrider
Okay........ The final park in this mega trip report is cedar point on the 4th of July! While I am not a huge fan of visiting the park on the 4th of July due to crowds, it was just too hard to pass up because we were so close to the park. Even though the park was busy, it did not seem as busy as years past. The park was very busy, but the lines were not too bad(don't know why). A few of things the park had going on for the holiday were the worlds biggest bbq grill, and a great fireworks show. One thing I noticed this year was that they had a reserved section on the beach that you could reserve to watch the fireworks. I "think" it included food as well due to the fact that it was an additinal charge. We really did not ride too much as we did not get there until around 6pm. We were able to check out a few shows and did manage to get a ride in on wicked twister and gatekeeper. As always, the park puts on a great fireworks show. They light the fireworks off right behind gatekeeper. I was kinda surprised they kept gatekeeper going due to the close proximity of the fireworks. While the grand finally was going, a train was dropping off the lift(lucky people). We had a great time at the park, but I wish they could figure out how to get traffic out of the park at the end of the night to move better. It took us an hour from our parking spot, to just past breakers express. Onto some pictures..... This time, we took the shawshe(sp) road to the park. I have been going to cp for ever, and I can't say that I remember getting my bags searched and wanded. A few offerings of the park The park was looking good, and since we were by ocean motion we took a quick spin. Still a fun ride. There was a show at the theater that we checked out. The name of the show escapes me. My kids decided to eat and wear some candy. Maxair The all wheels extreme show was good. Not sure what was going on here They were also making fun of some guy with a selfie stick The worlds biggest bbq grill They have a meal deal you can purchase. Meanwhile, over at rougaroue, there was a very short line. They were also running all three trains(stacking though) It's a big improvement over mantis Random shot of a ball in the water below the ride Lift hill shot The station reminds me of monster energy drink Looks like they may be painting the walkways. There was some kind of work going on behind the ride Random shot of wave swinger Maverick was so fast, it was just a blur. The sun was starting to set, so we decided to go find a spot for the fireworks. It's hard to tell from this shot, but these were skydivers with some kind of fireworks getting ready to land on the beach. This was our viewing location for the fireworks. The fireworks were amazing. Here are a few shots of them. One last look The fireworks produced a lot of smoke. It looked like windseeker was smoking Power tower The moon and gatekeeper Something was missing from the games midway. Anybody know what it is? If you guessed lighting, you would be correct. Not sure when the removed them, but they used to have gobo lighting inside of domes on the poles. I finnally got a ride on tiki twirl. The mayflies were in full effect. These bugs were everywhere. Lot's more pictures coming up.

Geauga Dog
Villain was sold for scrap at the auction. Such a shame that a young ride like that, only seven years old, is already gone. It is strange yet not surprising that CP set up security measures for the holiday. I think there was a rumor floating around the net that CP was a terror target for the 4th. jedimaster1227
Your Geauga Lake report was fantastic! It is rare that a park still operates in part with the skeletal remains of former parks still in plain view, so your report provided a fantastic look at what I'm sure a lot of us have been wanting to see (or at least me)! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
thrillrider
Thank you. I agree! It was a very weird feeling being there in the current state of the park after going there many times when it was Geauga lake / 6 flags. I have some more pictures to share, but this overtime at work is kinda holding me up. I should have them up by this weekend.
grsupercity
Has all that lakefront property really not sold? Seems like the old park would be a perfect sport for new homes.

thrillrider
Here are a few more random pictures from Geauga lake to hold you over till I can post some more sometime this weekend. It was hard to get a good shot of the building due to the trees, but the old shark building at geauga lake is still there. I remember going into the shark tunnel. This whole section used to have rides in it. If you look closely, you can see the pad that the octopuss ride sat at geauga lake. current prices Correct me if I am wrong, but was this the old ballroom at geauga lake? Another shot of what used to be the ski stadium at seaworld/geauga lake Looking at the front gate from inside Some random seaworld curb These bathrooms from the seaworld days are still in use. One last view to what used to be the entrance into geauga lake. This area looks like crap compared to what it looked like when seaworld was at the helm. Planters now block one of the old entrances. Geauga Dog
You are correct. That building used to be the ballroom, then the bathhouse for Boardwalk Shores/Hurricane Harbor, and it would be transformed into a haunt for Fright Fest (I know it used to be Brutal Planet during Six Flags and then Phobia under Cedar Fair). Philrad71
Definitely sad to see this...I really liked Geauga Lake, but admit that I never visited the Sea World side nor when it was combined with Six Flags. It would be really cool to have someone that would be allowed to give a tour of both the rides side and abandoned Sea World side for us theme park geeks. This is the first year that we haven't renewed our Platinum Passes in several years although we never went to this water park even when we had them as we would normally just go to CP and Soak City. I think that they could use another slide complex and a good lazy river if they want to be able sustain, although it does sound like they do okay with what they currently have. Nothing really to draw me there though. Here is a small TR that I did back in '07 when they were just starting to remove some of the bigger coasters. You can see how popular the water park was on a hot summer day! This was my last visit and I believe it may have been the last summer of operation for GL. Boomerang, the SLC and Villain were three of the roughest coasters I had ridden up to that point so it's nice to see that at least two out of the three have been relocated and have been brought back up to actually being ride-able. I really liked Dominator over the lake, as I thought it provided an interesting ride experience over the soupy, pea green lake. I admit that I was also a huge fan of Big Dipper and sure wished that Prince Desmond could have saved it! Link
