LuminousAphid
from jumpjet.info (I know there is a thread specifically about this coaster, but I want to hear about other old coasters as well!) Hey guys and gals, I just stumbled across this absolutely awesome design by Harry Traver (correct me if I'm wrong, the internet has been wrong before) which apparently operated in Crystal Beach Amusement Park in Ontario, CA. This thing looks crazy fun even by today's high standards, and I'm amazed something like this was bearable to ride back then. I'm surprised it apparently ran for 20 years, I would think the strong forces would make frequent re-tracking a must, or it would quickly get out of hand- especially with the freeze-thaw cycles Ontario probably experiences. Anyway it's an amazing-looking coaster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFOBcTmCEMU Apparently there were more than one of these- possibly three? I guess this one is the most famous and biggest, again according to the internet Lets see your favorite "historic" coaster designs- I guess anything over 50 years old
Mr.Peabody
That is indeed one of the Traver "triplets," but that's not the Cyclone at Crystal Beach. I believe that's the Lightning at Revere Beach. The third of the triplets was also named Cyclone.
coaster57
[youtu_be] [/youtu_be]Here is the Palisades Cyclone. It is pretty similar to the one at Crystal Beach. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]The Aeroplane at Rye Playland was also a very intense coaster. https://www.flickr.com/photos/37416464@N04/6782319864/ The Coney Island Tornado was known for being intense back in its day.
