thrillrider
We were lucky enough to attend the inaugural coasterstock at kings island this past weekend. I give huge props to the entire Kings island staff for putting on a great event. I believe that there were 500 people in attendance, and plenty of ert, food, goodies, and fun with friends. Let's check out some pictures from the event shall we...... Check in time! I noticed this while waiting in line. Not a bad deal. I don't recall ever seeing this before. Now this is what ert is all about. No more seatbelts on the bat. My wife and daughter enjoying drop tower. Banshee doing it's thing. We had the park to ourselfs until the gates were open to the public. People seemed to be enjoying delirium. Let's check out some behind the scenes pictures of banshee shall we..... My son got to meet charlie brown I noticed that the coney island arch sign is now gone Classic racing woody time We were able to get a ride in the blue train Not sure I like the new station set up. The blue and red used to be seperated by a fence, now it's wide open. Great show! Time for some q&a . Interesting story behind the transfer of coney island over to kings island. As most of you knew, coney island in cinncinnati closed and a lot of the rides were moved over to kings island. He was explaining that it only took them 30 days to dissasemble all the rides at ci to move them to kings island. Back out in the park, there were a lot of suckers willing to pay $5 to dry off after the water ride. Lunch time at the refreshed picnic area The food was great! Ribs, chicken, mashed potatoes and much more. I was able to score some great cupcakes as well. On sunday, they gave us blue ice cream as dessert! Lots of improvements in the picnic shelter area. They also have these new big ass fans to keep you cool. Monster seemed to be undergoing some kind of major service. Yes...there were that many busses You can get some great views of the park from the observation deck of the tower The new lights on triple play look great! Night time ert on the beast The calm before the storm on day 2 It seems like people on here like this bird for some reason, so here ya go. Yessssss!!!! More ert! It's not often that this room is empty. The video was playing.....for the last 15 years A shot of the seats for flight of fear Time to check out some behind the scenes shots of diamondback Ever wonder what the back side of the crypt look like? Exciting huh? One last look Time for a behind the scenes looks at the beast Except for us More pictures coming soon....stay tuned

Intimidator305
I really don't understand why parks don't switch to black OSTR's and seats for all rides... the colored ones look awful after several years (i.e. your Drop Tower and Diamondback shots). It also appears that Diamondback's yellow lift supports could use some paint next season. However with all that said, thanks for sharing the photos. Looks like KI knows how to hold a good event - unfortunately I haven't made it to one yet.

My only guess as to why they use different colors, is that the train will match the color scheme of the ride.
Philrad71
^ Thus the need to take like a 20 minute shower when you get back to your hotel when you consider all of the hands and sweaty bodies on those restraints all day!
thrillrider
Some more pictures... Looks like the park is jumping on the beer and bbq bandwagon. It's funny that they had to actually post something like this. 80's store front. I love all the retro 80's crap. The sad part is, I used to have most of the stuff in the window. Gotta show vortex some love. Loop de loop I am not a water ride person, but I really like the sign for this one. Can anybody guess what this is? Rumor is, this area will be getting a makeover in the next few years. Let's check out the dinos Rahhhhhhh!!!! I can confirm that invertigo was up and running. Color me rad was happining while we were at the park. It was funny watching all the people splashed with differant colors. The best night ride on the planet! Yes please! Fort kinzel Best sign in the park! I believe this was also new this year in the picnic area. The banshee ride area looks amazing at night I love being able to walk thru an amusement park before it opens. Weeeeee! Love it! I found waldo! My son was really digging the rock show. This is probably my favorate show in the park. Time to leave the park. I normaly don't post hotel pictures, but I am going to make an exception in this case. We stayed at the super 8 hotel near the park, and it was one of the worst rooms we have ever stayed in. I would not recommend staying here. There were bed bugs and all kinds of nasty things. Bed bug on pillow Dead roach on floor Dirt(we think) on top of toilet 3 Year old park information at front door Lovely pool The least they can do is chip off the paint that is peeling. Speaking of hotels, this is what's going on at the old kings island inn and resort. It looks like they are saving the main building as it still had lights on inside. DoinItForTheFame
Can anyone guess what this is? Springs for the slingshot ride?? Also, thanks for the amazing photos!!! Sad to hear about your hotel experience. But at least you were able to warn everyone else to stay away!
LBIJim
That $64.99 combo KI/CP ticket was a great value. Based on what I rode at the two parks, it was worth close to $200 to me. Thanks for the photos.
brneff99
Great pics and report...been too long since I've had a KI visit...am I the only one who misses the pond/water that surrounded the Beast station and beginning?? Out of curiosity, what is the plan for where the old KI Inn was located?? Seems like the perfect locale for a great resort hotel option.
mikejenkins1
They are putting in apartments there. Yeah, KI is my home park and started at Coney and now KI. Really miss the water around the Beast area. And Yes, I did ride the canoes in that area before the Beast as well.

Sad to hear about your hotel experience. But at least you were able to warn everyone else to stay away! Bingo! As for the kings island inn, I am baffled as to why condos would be the choice to take over that spot. First off, it is a traffic nightmare as it's located right in front of kings island, plus if you add in the nightly fireworks, I can hear the condo owners crying about it already. That spot would be gold to a major hotel chain.

I remember water flowing down the waterwheel thingy near the entrance to the station, but can't remember a pond. I also remember that the fast pass entrance used to be the chicken exit. They even had a sign.
Geauga Dog
Thanks for the photos. The more photos of Banshee I see the more I want to get back down to KI (I have yet to start my coaster season). The new lighting on Shake Rattle & Roll looks fantastic.

Just as long as the shower is not at the super 8 OMG yukkk...those hotel photos were disgusting!!! I thought that some of the hotels on Cleveland Road near Cedar Point were bad, but this one takes the cake. I would have demanded a refund and left immediately...no way I would stay in a place that has a bed bug on a pillow or roach on the floor. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it! I am sooooo glad that we didn't go cheap & stay there for Banshee Bash last year. We stayed at the Hampton across the way and were not disappointed. And we also went one exit down on our trip to Florida last winter and stayed at (I believe) a Holiday Inn Express - which was right next to a Carrabbas. That was also nice and reasonably priced too! It was the most rancid place we have ever stayed in. The funny thing about it was that when we complained to the manager, he looked at us like we were crazy for complaining. We have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years, and we never had as many complaints as we did with this place.

I honestly couldn't agree more. I know that it is a lower "star," room but i have been to many similar hotels that have the same quality but this hotel is just poor. When we checked in on our trip 3 weeks ago, we were greeted by a giant beetles on the wall and ceiling. Two of the lamps didn't work and the shower sprayed every where due to the shoddy shower rod. If your looking for a place to crash and leave, this place works if your willing to sleep on top of the sheets with your clothes on. The staff here was VERY friendly but i would never stay there again.
Philrad71
^ I wouldn't stay somewhere that I had to keep my clothes on and sleep on the bedspread because I was afraid of what was lurking under the sheets...I would absolutely freak out if I saw a bedbug on the bed or a cockroach anywhere! The last time we stayed at a Super 8 was a questionable place north of Charlotte on I-77 several years ago. It wasn't that the place wasn't clean, but the "clientele" that were actually making it their permanent residence in the rooms to either side of us. We should have known we were in trouble when (what looked to be) a 9 year old Indian kid checked us in. It's all about Hampton Inn's or the equivalent now. We would rather spend the extra money on a comfortable, clean room than take our chances with some of the budget-friendlier hotels.
cfc
^Was this Super 8 near what appeared to be a rock quarry? If so, I may have stayed there back when Paramount still owned the park. It wasn't bad then.

thrillrider
I do have to mention that super 8's corporate gave me a refund for 1 night, and 1500 rewards points for all the issues.
