Flat Ride Accident in China

Recommended Posts

It happened today around 5:00pm at a local festival fair in Henan Province. The mechanical arm of an Inverting Frisbee ride broke into two pieces DURING operation, at least 10 riders were thrown off. From the picture looks like that counterweight went around and hit the other half of arm after it snapped.

Hope the injured riders will recover well. Remember, before you ride anything sketchy in China, rethink your decision!

If I don't trust or ride fair rides in the US. It is scary enough riding permanent installations in China, forget about the fairs.

Yep. I was genuinely afraid of some of the coasters in China, outside of the larger parks.

I'm assuming they're not as serious as this one considering we're hearing about it. Either way, It's unfortunate to hear about something like this, and hope everyone recovers okay as well. I'll second what Larry said, too.

This is exactly why I don't trust fair rides. Many of my friends say "they don't chain the fair rides to the ground to hold them steady, it's to keep people from stealing them". (just to clarify, that last statement was a joke and should not be taken seriously.) I'm just shocked that the entire chasse managed to become disconnected from the arm as it is one of the sturdiest moving parts of the ride.

It's hard to tell from the pictures whether this accident is the fault of incorrect assembly or bad engineering. If it's the latter, the incident is much, much worse. Either way, it's terrible that this occurred, but fortunately it doesn't sound as bad as it could have been. Hopefully steps will be taken to prevent another similar incident from happening. I have no problem riding US carnival rides, but after this I'll be sure to double check that everything looks secure before riding.

I've never been on a giant frisbee, and while an inverting one sounds like it could be an amazing experience, this story definitely doesn't make it sound promising.

I'm curious if HUSS purposely never created a looping giant frisbee, knowing that there could be stability issues. Then again, I have a feeling this may be due to poor maintenance.

19 riders were "thrown off"? I wonder what this means in context, exactly.

Indeed weird given that the restraints are locked and there are seat belts.

Zamperla successfully made one... a 30 seat model...

Mondial as well, at Fantasy Island and Ocean Park.

Plus nearly every other Italian manufacturer. SBF VISA (Spin cycle, Silverwood), Fabri (Jupiter), Technicak Park (Looping Street Fighter), Rides and Fun S.R.L. (Twist and Sun 360).

I believe moser is one of the only Italian flat ride manufacturers to not make an inverting frisbee type ride nowadays. However, their take looks even worse than the above chinese knockoff... It's a stand up version (see image below)
