TPR Facebook Questions

Recommended Posts

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your news feed.)

On my desktop they auto-play, on my mobile device I have it set so they do not.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

All the time, but mainly items that are weird or interesting, and mainstream popular items in the US, I try to be a bit selective since I have a lot of friends on my FB Page that are not hardcore enthusiasts. I try to post things that would draw friends to the site.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

News stories, and mainly the odd things that we don't always see from other sites, like weird coasters and rides of China/Japan.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

It really depends on what it is, on other sites/pages, I tend to only watch 30 seconds or so, if I'm not interested, I keep scrolling. I tend to watch things that make me laugh, I love fail compilations.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

I like what you have been doing lately with a type of a "meme" look, there's a call to action to the video. The more appealing the thumbnail, the more likely I am to click on it.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I really dislike the way the news feed works now, it used to be in chronological order but I find that certain items are out of place and I tend to keep seeing old things pop up that I have seen days ago. I always try to set it to "most recent" but it doesn't always seem to work that way. I do tend to use Facebook more on my mobile device than anything else.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I really find the posts on TPR's Facebook page very entertaining, I really like when a friend that isn't a coaster enthusiast shares a TPR post to my timeline, nice to know that others see the content.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

It's auto-play, but I didn't know I could turn that off... and probably will turn that off.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

:/ No...

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

I really avoid sharing things.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

Rarely, most often I watch videos on youtube and ignore anything that isn't text on facebook.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Seeing as it's probably the only thing I'll see of a video on facebook, very important.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

The features that annoy me: The Psychological addiction to social interaction that compels me to use the site whatsoever.

Features that I enjoy: being able to connect with friends in other countries.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I didn't know TPR was on facebook to begin with.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

Nope.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Not often, unless it's a breaking story or an activist movement I want everyone on my friends list to see. I don't think I've shared a TPR post, but I'll tag enthusiast friends in the comments of a post.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Usually video, sometimes news. Rarely a photo unless it's something really special.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

I'll typically watch the first 15 seconds, if I like the video by that point I'll usually watch the entirety. If I get bored by that point I'll skip around the player to see if anything interesting pops up, and if not, move on.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Video thumbnails are important, especially for coaster videos. If it's a cool ride you wanna show off the coolest part of the ride, a steep drop, crazy looking inversion, whatever it may be. Also using the Impact font on the video thumbnails might turn some people off if they don't like internet memes. Personally I don't mind it, but when I started seeing that font on TPR thumbnails, memes were the first thing I though of.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I hate how addicting it is. It's my own damn fault, not the site, but I end up clicking almost every link and watching every video I see. Also, I wish there was a dislike button. I usually use facebook for uploading pictures and following pages I like.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I think TPR's facebook page is perfect as is. If anything, I think the actual website needs a visual upgrade as it feels rather dated in comparison to modern social media and web design.

Desktop yes, mobile no

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Occasionally, yes

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

videos

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

entire video

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

somewhat, mostly will watch based on subject

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I like being able to scroll though posts quickly and decide what I want to see, I am not a huge facebook user, so I don't have anything that is terribly annoying other than ads

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of? I really like daily videos and find your trip reports fun and entertaining. I do not get to parks much now, so it is my outlet for my passion for parks and coasters.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

The videos auto-play. Annoying as hell. I wonder who was sitting around in a meeting and said, "say, you know videos right? The biggest-bandwidth consumer of all? Let's have these Internet speed hogs play AUTOMATICALLY, so that an already complex site like FB loads even slower!"

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Rarely in general, I haven't from the TPR page. I usually share to matey's pages, not my own.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Anything I think a friend of mine might like, content type is irrelevant.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

Obviously I watch the entire video. If I wasn't going to watch the whole thing, I wouldn't have started.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Probably more than I think. If the thumbnail is a dog, a buxom woman, or something steampunk-looking I'll probably click on it.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I think it's gotten better over time. There used to be lots of extraneous crap, now it's pretty straightforward: your own plank, your friends' planks, grog fests, and instant/private messaging. Which are all it's really used for anyway.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

Can't think of any, though I'm probably not the person to ask for this sort of advice.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.) Videos are not set to auto play on kindle fire or on desktop computer.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page? I sometimes do share videos from the tpr facebook page sometimes but not very often from the tpr page.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?) I like to share videos with crazy coasters or crazy new rides and sometimes crazy news stories also.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored? I usually watch the entire video on facebook.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video) the title is what gets me to watch a video usually. the thumbnail does help though.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you? I like to use facebook to keep track of news going on in the theme park and cruise universes. its an easy way to see things in an easy to read format. the only part of facebook I don't like is the facebook messenger to message other users.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of? tpr does a great job on facebook. seeing the content helps get my excited to learn more about a ride or event that's coming up soon.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page? no and no (sorry) my friends don't don't share this interest as much as enjoy it.

I think TPR's facebook page is perfect as is. If anything, I think the actual website needs a visual upgrade as it feels rather dated in comparison to modern social media and web design.

I don't disagree with this. We actually did do an update to the front page about a year or so ago. The forum, well, it's a heavily modded phpbb3 forum and there's not too much we can do with that. The park index I agree can use some love, but that's really the only other major component of the site.

The reality is this, though - as more and more people are using social media and the actual websites less and less, we have to pick and choose where we spend our time and money, and at the moment, it's made more sense to focus on our social channels. That's not to see website upgrades won't happen, they will, but at the moment they are on a much slower pace that what we are doing on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, and Snapchat.

Hope that explains some things!

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

I have it on for both my home computer and my mobile device. It doesn't bother me, and I have unlimited data, so I don't really care.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Not regularly. My friends from TPR have already seen it and my non-coaster friends usually don't care. I'll share weird things, like the ferris wheel in Pakistan. I also share videos that star me.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Video

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

Probably 30-45 seconds for most of them, unless it's something I'm really interesting in seeing.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

It helps.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I hate that I feel like I only see about 1/4 of what my friends are posting. I hate ads and the messenger app as well.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

More links to the site would help. I think the videos are nice, but I've clicked on a few of the links you've shared recently. I'm old, so I still like coming to the site if I want to find out info.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

Yes, all videos automatically play on my desktop.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?
YES! Especcially if it's a crap contest

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)
Normally it's videos, but I also occasionally share photos and news stuff

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?
If it's a ride I've never seen before, I'll normally watch the whole thing, but if it's one that I'm familiar with, then I'll just watch part of it (Unless there is commentary, if there's commentary I watch the whole thing )

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)
I really don't care.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?
Can I say "Idiots that don't know how to read the post before commenting"?

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?
I don't know, I love everything about the page!

Autoplay on computer, not on mobile device.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

I occasionally share stuff from the TPR page if its from a park I have visited or a coaster I have been. For example I shared the latest Montu POV on my wall.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Everything really, but again limited to parks I have visited/coasters I have been on, or related to parks I'm going to in the future.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

POVs I usually watch the whole video. Longer videos I might skip through certain parts.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Not important, I usually know what the video is about from the title.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I strongly dislike the name tagging the comments section, makes the whole thing a mess. I don't bother reading the comments section, I stick to the links/pictures/videos. For comments/discussion I go to the TPR forum which holds a much higher standard.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I think currently there is a good mix of content being posted. I like seing links to trip reports and other content on the forums which I might have missed.

3- photos

4- I wathc the whole video

5- as long a sit shows what I am watching I value it.

6- I don't like how Facebook keeps showing old posts that I have no interest in anymore, though I like how I can get notified when a page posts something

7-I like it how it is though there has been a lot more things about Disney than other parks.

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

My videos are set to autplay both only my computer and my mobile devices such as my iPhone and iPad.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

I find myself sharing content from TPR recently, but I think most of the time I'm liking your updates.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

It's most likely videos and photos.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

It depends on if I'm at school or at home. At school I most likely watch like the first 30 seconds and when I'm home or on the train I watch the rest!

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

They're kind of important I think, because they catch your attention. I'd assume that most of the people don't read the headline when they see a youtube video, just because they're so fixed on the thumbnail!

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I love Facebook for browsing and watching news updates, such as coaster or theme park updates. It annoys me that it filters stuff! Sometimes I don't see all of the theme park stuff.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I'd love to see more updates of what you're doing throughout the day, like hey editing a video for you guys and then posting a photo with you and your laptop! I don't know if I'm an exception when it comes to things like that, but I love following people's way of life and be inspired. What about new contests? I know that they are expensive because of shipping, but how about if the majority is right, we're posting a new update, video or whatever?

Yes. But I will usually stop the Auto play to turn the sound on and go full screen.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Yes and Yes.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Videos. Always sharing Videos.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

If it's a ride or coaster the entire video.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Not important at all.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

Nothing. I am neutral to the book of faces.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

More videos. Oh less Disney stuff. Nothing against Anna and Elsa but I am at my frozen breaking point. However I do still want to see that POV. Also Construction update posts on Facebook are awesome.

To be honest we do more of this kind of thing on Twitter and more recently Snapchat. I see Facebook as being a platform that you put important or "key" content up there - videos, news stories, fun pics, etc... The "moment to moment" stuff seems to be more suited for Twitter or Snapchat so follow us on those platforms as well!

Just gonna be up front with you - Disney are my all-time favorite theme parks, and we live in Orlando, sooooo......

While I think we absolutely do a much better job of "mixing it up" than most other theme park/roller coaster Facebook pages do, you are always going to see a good amount of Disney on the page simply because that's what I'm into. Hello, my avatar here is from me working at Disney when I was 19 years old! I grew up with Disney and that's not gonna change.

As far as Anna & Elsa are concerned, well, look, while I get where you're coming from, as a Disney "fan" I'm super excited that Disney Animation is once again making movies that people want to see (Frozen, Big Hero 6, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, etc) because I remember that dark days of movies like Treasure Planet and Home on the Range and we will continue to feature them because there is still a lot of excitement around them.

While we do cover Disney quite a bit, I think you'd have to admit that we do cover a *LOT* of parks all over the world.

Hope that explains a bit more.

More links to the site would help. I think the videos are nice, but I've clicked on a few of the links you've shared recently. I'm old, so I still like coming to the site if I want to find out info.

We try to do this as much as we can, but here's the reality of it...as an example, take a look at the Avatar update we just posted to Facebook with a link to the actual news and information on the forum. That generated only 4 responses on the forum (two of which were mine), but 78 comments on Facebook. Same thing with the BGW announcement we just posted and linked to the forum. 3 responses on the forum, but 92 comments on FB. Now, granted, a much, much higher margin of these comments are total crap that will melt your brain if you try to decipher whatever alien language they are written in, but that's also the sad state of humanity at the moment.

So while we do generally link to stuff on the forum, probably at least once a day, a vast majority of the discussion is centered around the posts we make on Facebook.

That being said though we absolutely will continue to direct more and more traffic to the actual site! Our forum post numbers have actually been UP since we've been doing more updates on Facebook over the last year.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

Somehow I completly forgot about the fact that you actually respond to the stupid/annoying/ignorant comments instead of just deleting them! I like reading you responses!

More videos. Oh less Disney stuff. Nothing against Anna and Elsa but I am at my frozen breaking point.

And what's sort of interesting is as I was writing this to you, this was sent to us on our Twitter. It just shows that here we are, well over a year after Frozen was released, and the film is STILL drawing huge, engaged audiences at the parks. And that's one of the main reasons why we will continue to feature it as it's something people want to see. Perhaps not everyone, like yourself, but there is a HUGE audience for it.

And you know what's funny? This is the #1 thing we hear from parks we work with, too!

1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device?

(or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.)

Just the desktop computer. Autoplay vids and metered data usage on phones don't work together too well. The "only on Wi-Fi" setting has proven unreliable, at least on my phone.

2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page?

Can't say I do it regularly but I have shared things in the past.

3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?)

Probably photos and new stories. Not so much videos. It mostly depends on the content and how personally relevant it is to me/my friends.

4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored?

Generally I'll only watch what I intend to watch. So if I watch the video at all, I would watch the whole thing.

5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video)

Not important at all. I pay more attention to what the subject of the video actually is rather than a random thumbnail.

6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you?

I don't use Twitter much at all, so I'm still using the FB News Feed as a news feed. It works well in that regard. I tend to dismiss the random postings that say "LIKE if you love roller coasters!" or some other inconsequential remark. Too many of those become annoying, but so far you guys haven't put up *too many* in my opinion.

7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of?

I could use less of those "LIKE if you like coasters that go fast!" -style posts, but I understand why they are done. More news stories and such would help, but you guys can't control the rate at which news breaks and you're already doing a good job of posting the bigger stories. I like the moment to moment news-type stuff, but maybe I should just get more involved with Twitter for that. I just fear what Twitter would do to my phone, or my free time!

More Robb opinion pieces on coaster dorks, the amusement industry, or fanboys in general would be fun. Those are always entertaining to read.
