coasterschile
MAY 16th, 1990 EL MERCURIO St. Augustine Park about to open again Today it was confirmed that St. Augustine Amusement Park is going to open (again) it's doors on July. The park was abandonde for 6 years, but Happyland, a company who owns entertainment centers, as well as the famous Latin American amusement park "Fantasilandia", has restored the park and refurbished most of the rides, like the famous Side Friction coaster "Frictionizer" -"I know this is a good idea, Chile has a lack of places where you can sit, relax and enjoy rides with anyone" said Gerardo Arteaga, owner of Happyland. Classic rides such as "Pulpo", "Bumpers", "Látigo", "Divebombs", "Tazitas" and "Frictionizer" coaster will be operating, along with the new ride "Zipper" Frictionizer, opened in 1943, one of the last Side Friction coasters ever built Frictionizer in 1984, before the park closed Tazitas Edited March 16, 2015 by coasterschile
coasterschile
September, 1990 Hi, my name is Ignacio Fromm, I'm a Theme Park enthusiast. I live in Valparaíso and St. Augustine Park is half an hour from my home. I've never been on St. Augustine park, but my dad has, he told me it was the best park in the country. I've only been on Fantasilandia so I hope this one is better. I didn't wanted to go to the park on July, it was too busy because of the opening, so I decided to go 2 months later Afterall, it's a good park, I really liked it even though it has 6 flats rides and 1 rollercoaster. It's simple, quiet and charming. It has a HUGE terrain, but the park occupies just 1/5 of the land, who knows, maybe one day the park will use all the terrain Here's the Photo TR: Frictionizer was the first thing I saw Walking to the park Here's the entrance of the park, it's kinda cute Divebomb is right next to the entrance, it's a good ride, but the line was slow Zipper is the brand new addition, I got sick on this one Food stalls in front of the Zipper At launch time this was collapsed, and the rest of the park empty, so I used that time to take pictures and ride the rest of the rides Pulpo Tazitas, a classic This part of the park was empty Looks like fun Unfortunately, Látigo (Whip) was closed Heading to Frictionizer Bathrooms and some stalls Frictionizerrr!!! It was way faster than I though, it's a great coaster, the best of the country, completely smooth (CCI made a ggod job retracking the coaster) I rode it 5 times I took some photos onride, you can see the layout on this one Weee! It was a good day here at St. Augustine, I'll come back soon
IronWolfman
Cool seeing a park not based in America or the U.K.! I like the side friction coaster as well as the decent selection of rides. The scenery looks good too.
coasterschile
February 12th, 1991 So I came back after the off-season (November - December). The park added a new restaurant and a brand new ride called "Delta" (Paratrooper) I hope the park would open a new coaster soon, or at least a water ride (it's summer here) Here are the pics: Back in the park It was a little busier than my last visit Here's the new restaurant, it's a great addition, since last year the food stalls collapsed Yay! Látigo opened this time. Fun ride The new ride was crowded It's a nice nice ride, I hadn't ridden one of these before Nice colors too I finished the day on Frictionizer, I love this coaster Edited February 13, 2015 by coasterschile
IronWolfman
The new food stalls look great and Delta seems like a nice addition!
AdmiralNether
Wow! Pretty good park, love that side friction, but the name is kinda boring. Layout is amazing, color scheme is great for a woodie, and by the way, will this be a timeline park? I love timelines, and this is a really good opportunity. I hope to see an Arrow Looper or a B&M Standup.
coasterschile
June 17th, 1991 Today I did a quick photo TR, I heard there were 2 new rides coming, one will be open in a few months, and the other one will be open next years, so I had to check that out. Looks like something big is coming I stayed a few hours on the park, from 3 pm to 6 pm, I didn't wanted to stay all day Suddenly the day got rainy But everyone was having a great time There's Delta, one of the 2 new attractions for this year, which opened on January this year. Behind Delta there's a construction site (new 1992 attraction) Looks like a big attraction, definetely a rollercoaster This is the second new attraction for this year, from what I've heard it's a brand new Fabbri Magic Dance model (?) and it's called Crazy Dance and it'll be open on August/September I can't wait to see what's behind that fence Looks like a coaster! Looks big too Frictionizer good as always Edited March 19, 2015 by coasterschile
coasterschile
September 12th, 1991 Here's a little update. Today I passed outside the park on the highway, and took some photos, unfortunately most of them were blurry, so I'm just going to post 2. The supports for the new coaster are already in place, the track is going to be installed next week, also I heard the cars are in storage near Valparaíso and the new Crazy Dance ride has just opened This is the best pic I could get from the coaster Seems quite big, though

coasterschile
January 3rd, 1992 Today it was a great day, I have a friend that started working there 4 months ago (he's actually a ride operaton), he told me to come here, the park was almost empty and all the rides were open (including the new ones), so I came to the park, and I had a big surprise, 2 new rides were open (the new roller coaster, and a small flat ride), I think it's great to see the park adding multiple rides on the seasons (even though they're all used rides), but it grabs the attention of many people. These 2 years the park has runned well, and it's considered the 4th best park in South America. Also my friend told me the park was going to open 1 more ride this season. There's the park Just...beautiful Here you can see the 2 coasters of the park The weather was great, but it's kinda hot here so I really think they should put a water ride or something Oh zipper zipper...last time I didn't had a good experience on this one, but I'll give it another try...later First ride of the day, Divebomb! Good as always (unfortunately the line was too slow, so I didn't rode it a second time) The park was very clean and tidy. Looks good now with the new coaster (I hadn't been on the park since June, I wanted to come on November, but it was closed because of the off-season) Pulpo was the ride my friend was operating, he knew I don't like much spinning rides, so he made a super long cycle when I rode it Dodgems were fun Here's the last 91's addition "Crazy Dance". It's a Fabbri Magic Dance ride. I've ridden a Huss Break Dancer (when I went to Germany), but never a Fabbri one Hello, Frictionizer, I'll see you later This was the brand new addition for this year, it's a vekoma corkscrew model, and it's called "Fuego" ("Fire" in English, not a very original name, though) Actually this coaster has some history behind it, it was bringed from an Argentinean park called "Italpark", which closed on 1990 due to a tragic accident on a flat ride, so this vekoma was almost going to be scrapped but St. Augustine Park bought it There's a sign here that tells the story of Italpark, it also says that this was the first looping coaster on South America, and now it is the first looping coaster in Chile also There's a sweet pop of airtime when you ride the front row. In my opinion, this was a great addition to the park, specially for the fact that the park rescued this coaster, it's kinda rough, but not that much, it's enjoyable. Definitely the star attraction of the park Nice flower arrangement too There's the other brand new attraction of this year It's the Zizzler, honestly I didn't like it much, I think Crazy Dance is way better than this one obviously, But at least this is a more gentle version of the Fabbri spinning ride This is the best flat ride in the park (in my opinion), it has good capacity, and it's just plain fun. The perfect combination of music, spinning and lights. Amazing ride. It's not as thrilling and fast as a Huss Break Dancer, but it's just Crazy This was something I didn't expected Wee! Nerd shot I took some photos while riding Fuego. Here you have some lift hill porn I liked the pre-drop section First drop (some photos were taken earlier) Loop-de-loop! Rear seat pic This is quite a very photogenic coaster Frictionizer from the lift hill I couldn't have left without riding this coaster, back seat of course! It was a great day! coasterschile
May 5th, 1992 A friend told me the park already started to work on the new attraction for next year, and it seems to be something big, so I wanted to come to see how the park's going The weather was awful, winter is just getting started Seems like a big ride but I don't think is a coaster... It's a flume ride! The park was almost empty Frictionizer got stuck while doing a test run, it was closed for the rest of the day Loved how clean and tidy it was today
